Actually the only time I really noticed my original PS3 being loud was when I played the PS2 game called Wizardry which was on a "blue" CD not the normal DVD that most PS2 games come on.

For the BC PS3 a game on a CD means that the reader has to spin the disk much faster than what is needed for a DVD or a Blu-ray for that matter. So of course PS2 games on a CD are going to sound sort of like a jet taking off (more a muted "whiz") although it was not really...

I sort of agree with you here. I don't have a PS4 at the moment however I was hoping for a bundle that would give me the nudge but sadly that has not happened.

As far as picking a console that has the most games I would have to say my backwards compatible PS3 which allows me to play PS1, PS2 and obviously PS3 games. I also have a huge game library.

Basically for gaming I only choose a machine which lets me play the games I like and even though I have look...

Under-powered with respect to what? If you compare against a high performance PC then yes but most PC's sold today don't have the performance of the PS4 or even the XB1.

Lets be honest here, how many people actually build their own gaming PC?

For me building a high end PC is child's play however once you start factoring in a decent monitor, performance memory, quality CPU, disks (SSD for boot disk and 7200rpm or better disks for the rest), high en...

There is very little content for 4k TV's and even less for 4k games. Even for PC's you need a fairly powerful graphics card which is over twice the price of a PS4 and even then there are very few native 4k games although the molders do like to tout that they can output in 4k although the last time I checked only one graphics card came close to actually supporting 4k.

Slowly 4k content will become available however 1080p won't become obsolete for a very long time. ...

That depends on the game and the enjoyment you get out of playing it.

I have a backwards compatible PS3 and sometimes play PS2 games and basically they look like the output of an up-scaled DVD some good some not so good but the game-play has not changed.

I can go back even further and play games on my son's old Gamecube. While the graphics were really designed for PAL (as were the PS2 and even the Xbox) or if you live in the USA NTSC the display even on m...

Unless they go for 4k gaming then they are going to be stuck with 1080p. This is not a bad thing however don't expect to see better visuals than the PS4 although you may see similar.

4k TV's are available now and are surprisingly cheap in comparison to their 1080p counterparts (10% to 20% more). The problem is 4k games will require a very powerful graphics card as high end PC gamer's can ascertain and this would up the price of a new console enormously.

I am pretty sure most people who own a PS4 and/or XB1 have a PC of some sort usually in the order of low to medium performance.

IMHO gamer's should look at what games that they are interested in and what platforms these games are available for before they purchase them.

While the PC is more a general purpose machine many gamer's even though they may have a PC prefer other types of gaming hardware such as consoles, hand-held's, smart phones and tab...

Sony does sell faceplates but they appear fairly limited. It is easier and cheaper to get decals or skin kits for the PS4 and even the PS3 from third party sites.

Use "ps4 skin kits" in your search engine. I got almost 800,000 hits using Google. I only checked out Ebay and you have a huge choice of PS3 and PS4 skin kits as well as kits for your controller.

Not really if you can do a simple web search.

Why not get a plain white or black (preferably matte but it's your choice) PS4 and put removable decals or skin kits on them.

A quick search using "PS4 skin kits" will get you almost 800,000 hits. Some of the kits are really good and cover the whole (if you want) of the PS4. You can even customise your controllers as well. Also the prices are quite reasonable.

They do sell faceplate covers. The following is a European Sony site: https://www.playstation.com...

Rather than buy a new faceplate, why not get a decal which you can remove when you want to put a different one on. From what I can gather from the following URL it would be a much better and cheaper alternative.

I actually have an nostalgia week or two during the year for PS2 games and because many of the games I like are JRPG's it is very easy to to loose track of time since some of my games can take 30 to 60 hours to complicate even though I have already played the game before.

Let's not get started on PS3 games as the Souls series, Tales ... etc and lastly that great time-waster Skyrim which I still have not finished and probably don't want to. ;-)

While I do agree with you I don't think it would be that easy to have PS3 backwards compatibility on the PS4 unless the relevant hardware was included which would up the cost enormously.

Emulating a PS3 in software while doable requires a very powerful PC and even then you still may have issues (the PAL BC PS3 would only play between 85% and 90% of all PS2 games).

Backwards compatibility for PS1 and PS2 games is definitely doable on the PS4 and one that...

You could put pretty much any PS2 game in the NTSC version of the FAT PS3 since it virtually has full PS2 hardware wise in it. However if you live in countries that support PAL then you got a combination of partial PS2 hardware and software emulation that would play about 85% to 90% of PS2 games.

I have the PAL version of the FAT PS3 and out of the sixty PS2 games one will not play even though the PS3 recognizes it as a PS3 game. Three others freeze at a point in the game whe...

Well it really depends on what types of games you like and if they are going to be available for the console you have. Even if a game is multi-platform and you have multiple consoles you still pick the game for the platform you prefer to play it on.

Personally I like Action/Adventure and/or RPG's so games like "Fallout" would be preferable although I would always take games like Skyrim and Oblivion (made by the same company) over the "Fallout" series. ...

If you had an NTSC (USA, Japan) original PS3 you basically had a full PS2 hardware wise inbuilt. This version would pretty much play nearly all PS2 games.

If you had a PAL original PS3 (UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand) then it contained a mixture of PS2 hardware with software emulation which only allowed up to 90% of PS2 games to be played. I actually have one of these and out of 60 PS2 games I still have one won't play and 3 get unrecoverable game freezes at some p...

Not true. The XB1 or Xbone as some call it had such draconian requirements and for some an unwanted but required peripheral called Kinnet, such that many staunch XB360 supporters jumped ship to the PS4.

Of course latter on Microsoft basically had to do a complete 180 (now XB1+179 ;-)) and remove their "always on" policy as well as making Kinnet an optional peripheral.

So no you cannot compare the XB1 launch to the PS3 launch becuse the PS3 was expe...

One the main saving graces of the original PS3 was it's backwards compatibility (got one day 1) which allowed me to play my PS2 collection as well. Unfortunately the PAL version was a mixture of hardware and software for backwards compatibility unlike the NTSC version which basically had full PS2 hardware.

Even today my FAT PS3 still works and so do most of my games although I do have some games that can freeze at certain points or in the case of "Grandia 2" not...

FFX and FFX-2 were remastered and are available for the PS3 (March 2014) and PS4 (May 2015). Personally I have no need of a remaster since I have a BC PS3 and the original PS2 version's output is like an up-scaled video which still looks great on my 55" HDTV. My original FF12 also looks great as well.

Choosing which FF is the best or the worst is very subjective. Personally I liked FF12 and FF13-2 the best but IMHO all are great, even FF8 which took me quite sometime...

I do agree with you (sort off) however Square/Enix should come up with new IP or a similar story to 6 but with correctly perspective characters rather than what is called "super deformed" which IMHO will turn off allot of new players.

If you liked FF6 and I definitely did you should play FF4 and FF5 since they also have very good stories and similar game play styles. All have active as well as turn based options, unlike FF7 which is turn-based only.
