Cloud computing or as I knew it over 30 years ago as "Remote IT Services" can be very useful but only if you are connected to those services and the most common means of connection today is the Internet.

Basically no Internet or Internet down then no cloud services. If the Internet is slow then Cloud services are also slow.

It never ceases to amaze me (popcorn time) how many people are still touting Crackdown which was a controlled demonstration and...

The so called cloud can do what is called near line processing what it can't do is real time graphics processing mainly due to the fact hat the connection between the cloud servers and the controlling machine is the internet which has considerable latency.

Just because Microsoft touts "Da Cloud" as something like the holy grail does not mean that Sony or any other company can not use the same techniques since these have been known for well over 30 years.

I suppose any device with a CPU can be classified as a PC such as a Cray X-MP (1982) which would even make the so called top of the line PC's today look like an abacus. :-)

Playing an open world game on a 25" HDTV is not all that good. If you were playing on a 25" monitor then you should not have any issue since you would be sitting pretty close to the screen.

Of course choosing a monitor or HDTV for that matter depends on what suits you and of course price.

Like any display device you really need to do your home work before buying. for a home display which will will be used for playing games, watching videos and watch...

I have not got a PS4 yet for various reasons and price is not one of them.

I was kind of hoping a patch like this was going to come out for the Witcher 3 so I am now looking for a decent (from my point of view) 1TB model bundle for the holiday season.

I was actually very tempted when I saw a 1TB model with two controllers but unfortunately I did not like the game that came with it. If it had been The Witcher 3 I would have got it. Still I am not in a hurry an...

The mp3 codec is lossy audio encoding which in it's basic form is 2 two channel audio. Later releases and under patent is the 2.1 and 5.1 versions.

There are other forms of audio compression that support up to 7.1 audio. The problem you have with many audio formats is that they can be a patent mine-field.

There are also patent free lossy audio codecs as well such as "Opus" and "Vorbis" which are every bit as good if not better than so...

A fairly simple method of compression can be used for designing a tree. Basically you initially draw/design a tree then you apply specific rules as to how you would like the tree to be displayed such as height, longer/shorter branches, bark, foliage type, flowers (if any) etc. You can then use randomization to display a forest were no two trees are exactly the same.

In this case all you need to do is place each tree in a specific but slightly randomized location on the map a...

I have the PS3 version of Skyrim with all the DLC (Legendary Edition) and even at 720p, displaying on my 55" HDTV (200Hz refresh) the result is really impressive especially when panning. On standard HDTV's panning looks blurry.

Now if they can fix this over 6MB save bug of which the only way around it is to turn off all auto saves. Not holding my breath though.

Of course on the PC especially with modes Skyrim looks amazing.

Of course...

Basically this is no more different than getting a monitor that can support up to 120fps. Sure it is nice to have games that run at 120fps but even if the game is 30fps and locked (this is important) the images on the display will appear to be much smoother especially when something on the screen is rapidly moving.

As an example I have a HDTV that has a refresh rate of 200Hz and most games which would appear blurry on a normal HDTV when viewing fast moving objects or even pan...

If you have a 1920x1080 pixels screen which is a 16:9 aspect ratio screen why would you want to split it for each eye?

A simple example is to hold your smart phone (assuming you have one) close to your eyes to the point were each of your eyes can see the full screen. The distance will vary per person and the screen but it should be around 1.5 inches or 3.8 cm and each eye can see a full screen. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 which has a 5" screen and is full 1080p.

You are quite right price is important however quality, functionality and performance are even more important. Just buying on price is very short sighted.

From the specs on the PlayStation VR it is true 1080p (aspect ratio 16:9) and is capable of displaying at 120fps. When you have something like that close to your eyes it will appear that you are effectively viewing a huge HDTV of possibly over 100" except you would not be able to see the individual pixels.

If you wish to know the full specs of the PlayStation VR headset then the following URL may be helpful: http://www.wareable.com/pro...

Basically from the article the specs are:

Full HD 1920 x 1080 display, but ups it from 5-inches to 5.7-inches, which gives a 100-degree field of vision. It also features RGB subpixels, which help smooth out th...

There is an unwritten law in computing that states that no matter how much the capacity of your resources, users will always find a way to fill them.

Actually users should practice what is called "good house keeping" but that is easier said than done.

Still I have to ask the question here. Why do you need all those games available at once since it is easier to have probably 3 to 5 games immediately available with a finished game being deleted and re...

JRPG's have always had a mixture of Action, turn-based and active turn-base going back to the days of the NES and Master System.

I still read articles with respect to Final Fantasy 7 saying that this was the best way to play a JRPG. This is highly ill-informed since FF4 through FF6 had the option of turn-base (TB) and active turn-base (ATB) and it was only with the release of FF12 that selectable ATB and TB was brought back in.

If you want an example of a...

The last Tomb Raider I played seriously was 3 since I could not really get into the later versions. I do know that the franchise is very popular but for me I don't really care.

The article rant seems more like an advertisement for the XB1 by saying that because ROTTR has this type of gameplay and I (the author) cant wait so I will buy an XB1.

Personally I don't mind what the author spends his money on since it's his business and I do hope he enjoy...

I think I would want to try it before I buy it and not just a 2 to 3 minute demo, I would want at least 15 to 30 minutes. VR while not a new thing may not be suitable for some people.

I think most people would like using VR if there are games that make use of it properly. For people who have a problem, sort of like what some people have with flickering which can trigger epilepsy, then obviously don't buy.

If you try it and you like it and have the money ...

I would say that is a problem with all RPG's especially when you get into interesting side quests which sometime turn out to be major quests. Skyrim and Oblivion have these in spades.

I did like the FF12 hunts which could take you just about anywhere. Fortunately you did have fast travel.

Personally I have found most FF games from FF4 on take from 40 to 80 hours to complete unless you cheat or just follow a walk through. I think I did spend over 100 hours...

Penelo - Lost her family during the war. Vaan's childhood friend.
Ashe - Former princess thought dead.
Balthier - Sky pirate
Fran - Viera warrior. Balthier's partner. She really stands out in many ways. ;-)
Basch - Former general and framed for murder of his king

There are other's who sometimes fight with you although you don...

Basically you could relate license points to the sphere grid since they do allow they character to equip weapons and armor according to their points.

Purchasing spells and techniques is a great part of the game since once you purchase one all others can use it providing they have the license to do so.

Certain spells, techniques, weapons and armor cannot be picked up or purchased until you have advanced further in the game. In other words you can't just g...

I still have my PS2 version and it looks quite nice graphically when played on my BC PS3 to my 55" HDTV.

FF12 is the first and to date only FF game that did not move you into what I call a "Fight Arena". Basically you could always see the enemy coming and you fought in the area you were originally in, not only that but you could even move around as well. Some Major Boss battles were traditional however there were only a few of those.

Being able...
