An easy and possibly profitable solution would to sell a PS1/PS2 emulator for the PS4 at a reasonable price say $10 to $30 with a 50% discount if you are a PS+ member.
@LeCreuset
That is my biggest worry at the moment. If my FAT PS3 fails then I loose PS2 backwards comparability.
@HammadTheBeast
If you have a PS3 it will play PS1 games. Only the FAT PS3's could play PS2 games as well.
The issues you have stated happened over nine years ago and occurred mainly in the US. All firms at one stage or another can do what to some is unethical and sometimes try to circumvent or bend the laws to improve their companies worth.
If you are going to criticize one firm you also have to do the same with competing firms. Breaking the law can be very serious and could result in jail time or heavy fines. Not being ethical is not illegal although it can put some potential cu...
For those who have an XB1 Halo 5 is going to sell well, however not everyone who has an XB1 likes the Halo series although I do think the majority do.
@DivineAssault
I do think it is very difficult to define what an ordinary gamer prefers.
Gamers in general prefer one or more different genres or categories such as Action/Adventure, FPS's, RPG's, Sports (including Racing), Tactical Shooters just to name a few. Even within those categor...
You are quite right, PC's do have emulators for PS1 and PS2 games and since the PS4 is basically PC architecture it should be fairly easy for Sony technical to do this. Making BC for PS3 Bluray games is a totally different thing though.
I won't deny a custom background is nice however how long do you actually look at this before doing something else?
Personally I would prefer PS1 and PS2 (most preferred) backwards comparability. Folders and the ability to delete items from your library is also a very nice feature since it is great for house keeping.
All Microsoft only products so the Embrace, Extend, Extinguish saying is still alive and well but only wrapped up in market speak.
There are alternatives however most people don't know of them and most likely don't care since a Microsoft OS is good enough for them. It is different in the smart phone area though were Linux (Android - 83%) and IOS (Apple - 14%) dominate.
Don't believe those figures then look up the following: 3856d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment
At the moment PC gamers are content with Steam but the writing is on the wall. Microsoft will go head to head and initially prices will plummet for the "new" Microsoft services until Steam is only a shadow then watch the prices go up because Microsoft services will be the only game in town.
It won't happen over night but it will happen. This is why Steam is now supporting Linux based operating systems which also includes Android.
For well over 15 years Linux distributions have used application servers to distribute updates and install packages. This is exactly how Android and IOS (Apple) work with regard to updates and package installs as well.
Basically Microsoft has been very late to the party but this is the way they are now going by having what is called "Software as a Service" (nothing new here either). Yes Microsoft updates have been around for many years but only for Microsoft produc...
I have never yet paid 20 quid for a pizza although I have paid AU$18.00 (Australian) for a gourmet one. I guess we have better pizza places in Sydney that do give value for your money.
I suppose you could relate a pizza to micro-transactions but a cheaper one will fill you just as much as an expensive one and usually with less calories. Of course you don't or shouldn't have one every day unless you want to be a candidate for heart disease.
Micro transactions or better yet "Pay to Win" are a great way of making sure that my money stays in my bank.
I don't have any problems with Coop or PvP since IMHO they assist in making the gamer a better player.
Basically the Steam Machine will be a dedicated gaming PC which is up-gradable which in turn will put it in the PC gaming category.
What is interesting is that the Steam Machines have a Linux kernel which is what all Android devices have, so not only can you have access to Android games but to Steam Games that can run on native Linux platforms. There are quite a few BTW and those that can't run under Linux can be run under emulation.
As for price well th...
I would say that pretty well all people who post on N4G have PC's of some sort ranging from tablets to high end gaming PC's and many, especially those with a technical background are well aware of the differences.
The choices of a gaming device and likewise games are many and varied and what is preferred by one person may not be preferred by another.
Personally I like Action/Adventure and RPG's compared to FPS, Tactical Shooters, Racing and Sports...
Saying the XB1 is a better designed console is a personal view not a technical one.
As for "Da Cloud" it's limit is the performance of the Internet connection between your XB1 and the Server(s), also as you should be aware this type of technology has been well known for over 30 years. Microsoft did not invent it nor did they magically make it better.
DX12 is software and as such can be duplicated or even enhanced for other platforms. In fact the...
If you are an single adult and working you should have some money to spare unless you have a drinking and/or gambling and/or drug addiction.
In fact if you cannot afford something like US$89.00 for an extra controller and camera assuming the camera is important to you, why are you gaming in the first place?
While the PS4 was designed by Sony it's manufacture is in China.
Halo like Fallout 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raider basically will come out very late in the year and their chances of GOTY are much slimmer because of that. This is not to say these games won't do well, in fact they will but a GOTY is not all that likely.
The problem with FO 4 is that it due out very late in the year to make GOTY but then again it may be possible,
Well you are certainly entitled to your option but for me I have always enjoyed the games made by "From Software" and that includes the King's Field series as well as the Souls series.
As for Bloodborne and the Witcher 3 I don't have a PS4 yet but will get them when I do.
For some reason I could never get into the Fallout series although I definitely liked Oblivion and Skyrim - go figure.
As for Tomb Raider I could never get...
The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne even though they are both Action RPG's they are different. Basically Bloodbourne has a strong survival horror component while the Witcher 3 does not. Personally I think that trying to compare them is pointless although I can understand if you like one over the other.I
That said I will be getting and enjoying both games when I eventually get a PS4.
I definitely like White Knight Chronicles II with the remastered WKC I, although I never bothered with the multiplayer part mainly because my in game characters could do all the missions usually to "S" class.
Do people still play the on-line part of WKC?
