Well you don't need to own a PS1 to play PS1 games. All PS3's can play PS1 game disks, providing they can still be read.
Having a BC PS3 is great if you also want to play PS2 games on occasion. Of course as per my original comment you do need the media to be readable. PS1 and PS2 media is very easy to scratch if you are not careful and definitely don't let kids handle them unless they know how to handle the disks, although this can apply to adults as well.
There are always pluses and minuses with any RPG be it Japanese or Western and whether they are turn-based, active turn-base or action and of course how each is implemented.
Lumping JRPG's with turn-based only is very short sighted. Using Final Fantasy games as an example. FF4, FF5, FF6 and FF12 had the option of turn base or active turn-base and you could change this any time you wanted. FF7, FF8, FF9 and FF10 were turn based only with some additional features. FF13 was ...
I still have a backwards compatible PS3 and on occasion do play PS2 games but mainly for nostalgia. Graphics wise PS2 games are quite acceptable if you have a good HDTV.
All PS3's can play PS1 games but when playing on a large screen HDTV even with smoothing on PS1 graphics appear fairly grainy although the gameplay has not changed.
From what I can gather you can get a PS2 emulator for your PC so it should not be difficult for Sony to make a PS2 emulator ...
Oh really, well before you say things like that why don't you look at the share market.
If you are interested and I get the impression you aren't Sony's shares in the US market went from US17.77 in October last year to US$25.46 as of today. Given that and looking at the trends which appear to be fairly positive Sony is by no means broke.
Still a hater has to be a hater.
I have over sixty PS2 titles and even though I have a backwards compatible PS3 (Software and hardware emulation) three games fail between 5 and 10 hours in.
The problem with PS2 and also PS1 disks is that they don't have the special coating that the Bluray disks have so you have to be very careful not to scratch the CD and DVD disks.
One plus that PS1 and PS2 games have over PS3 games is that they are allot smaller data wise, this makes downloading them l...
I would go as far to say that many people who owned a PS3 and purchased a PS4 have kept their original PS3. Similarly those who originally owned an Xbox360.
Of course backwards compatibility would have been a system seller on launch but now a quarter if the way through this console generation not so much
Sony had backwards compatibility on the PS3 at the start of the generation and that made it easier for people who still had PS2 games that they had not finished to make the purchase.
Making BC when a third or a quarter way through the generation while nice is not as big a selling point than if it was at the console's release date.
Basically gamers who do like to play the odd older game have kept their original console and those that have not there would o...
My son subscribes to Netflix which he can watch in his room via his PS3 while my wife can watch a different Netflix show via my PS3 in our living room. As for a Netflix DVD what country are you living in?
Backwards compatibility is great at the start of a new console generation since you can still play the games you have not finished on your old console.
Actually this is the main reason why I don't have a PS4 yet since I have a huge library of PS3 games I have yet to finish. I still have PS2 games and to a lesser extent PS1 games that I do play on the odd occasion.
Having BC when the console is a third or quarter of the way through it's lifetime while...
If you are serious about gaming then get the one or two gaming systems that cater for your tastes.
I would be fairly confident in saying that most gamers don't like all games preferring only a few genres and even within those genres they would be picky.
As an example I prefer RPG's (Japanese and Western) and Action/Adventure. Seriously playing an RPG requires many tens even hundreds of hours of dedication so playing RPG's across multiple platforms...
I am pretty sure every one on this forum has a PC of some sort.
If you like modding then fine but I would be fairly confident in saying that out of all the PC gamers you would be in the minority. Of course if you take all PC's into account those with high performance gaming rigs would also be in the minority.
Choosing to play games on a console, handheld and/or PC is really up to the preferences of individual gamer. I think you will find that the most wid...
Wow I did not know the XB1 had a time machine capability since "Scalebound" is not due out till Q4 2016. Halo 7 and GoW 6 must be great games. :-)
Can't see why not since it is Square/Enix's servers, all you need to do is make an account, pay your subscription and login. Basically the server concept is similar to what World of Warcraft and Guild Wars have except GW is free of a subscription.
From what I can gather Microsoft want's control of the servers that the game on the Xbox will connect too and I am quite sure S/E is not having a bar of that.
It is possible that WoW may come to the PS4 ...
Well a PlayStation abbreviated as PS has four iterations. Lets see, the PS4 succeeds the PS3 which was released after the PS2 which in turn was released after the PS1.
For the mentally challenged the chronological order for the PlayStation is PS1, PS2, Ps3 and PS4
Can't really get anymore simple than that.
Now onto the XBox which I will abbreviate as XBox. Lets see, the XBox1 succeeds the XBox360 which in turn succeeded the XBox. Yes def...
I would not say new since there is little if any change to the physical shape or the electronics, however I do think "sexy" is appropriate since that word actually describes an outer form.
From my own personal perspective I have not got a PS4 mainly due to the fact that I have quite a backlog of PS3 games although if it had backwards compatibility for PS2 games I would buy one immediately. Fortunately my BC PS3 fills that part.
As for different colours well I actually prefer matte black and have no real interest in other colours. This is not to say I dislike what Sony is offering, in fact I do think the choice or "paint job" to quote "SuplexCityB...
Buying a PS4 or XB1 as a present? I can sort of understand if it is the grandparents buying for a child.
Even if you are buying for the big kid in the family (we all know who I am talking about) why would you wrap it up as a present not to opened till the 25th of December? A game maybe but not a console. Still it takes all kinds to make a world.
A price cut is nice for the PS4 but good or selectable gaming bundles will sell more PS4's.
Consider this, say a 500GB PS4 with say 2 mediocre (this is subjective) games is $350.00 but a 1TB PS4 with your choice of 3 games or 2 games plus an extra controller for $450.00, which bundle would choose?
This is not to say something like the above will occur but judging from the previous lead up to the last holiday season there is a good chance that it may.
Personally the last time I seriously played Tomb Raider was TR3. For some reason I could not get into the later releases even though they were graphically far superior. I also like Action/Adventure which is the genres which the Tomb Raider series falls into.
I do like RPG's but for some reason I have never been keen on the so called post apocalyptic scenario preferring the sword and sorcery aspects instead, although I do like the Final Fantasy series.

Even on my BC PS3 and 55" HDTV FF12 still looks good and of course the gameplay is great.
After a long hiatus FF12 brought back the options of active and passive turn-base switching which IMHO had been sadly missing since FF6.
What made FF12 unique out of all the FF games was the fact that you did not move into a fight arena but fought in the area where you encountered the enemy. Also no more random encounters since you could see the enemy and if possibl...
