Trophies are nice but not essential.
Having the PS4 being able to read a PS2 game disk and install the image to the system disk so it can be played via enhanced emulation is much more important.
Yes Dark Cloud is one of those games that can get really addictive for some people.
Having PS2 emulation on the PS4 could also be a really good money spinner for Sony as well as the original game developers since they could charge a reasonable price f...
Basically I want the PS4 to be able to install all my sixty plus PS2 games and let me play them. Trophies are a nice feature for some however I would prefer to play the game first.
I have no objection to paying for digital downloads of PS2 game images for people who want to play a particular PS2 game but don't have the disk. For me there is no way I am going to play for an image when I already have the game.
Backwards compatibility is always a welcome feature to any console, some will use it some won't, however it is only a system seller when it comes with a newly release console.
Could not agree more. I have over sixty PS2 games and it would be great to put a PS2 didk in and having the image installed on the PS4 disk to be played at my convenience.
I don't have any objections to Sony making digital image downloads available for a reasonable cost to those people who don't have that PS2 game and would like to play it.
What I will not do is pay for PS2 games that I already own and why should I when I still have my backwards compa...
For simple games that can make use of a touch screen I would agree with you, however many PlayStation games require more complex input.
Just taking the Dual Shock 3 as an example. This input device has effectively two analog stick which actually double as buttons (ie. L3 and R3), next we have four shoulder buttons/triggers (ie. L1, L2, R1, R2) that are pressure sensitive. In addition we have a "D Pad" and four standard buttons which are also pressure sensitive. last...
I have no objection to trophies for PS2 games, however I would much rather be able to install PS2 game images from my existing PS2 disks. There is no way I am going to play for a digital download of a game I already own.
Personally I am not into to FPS games but I have played Timesplitters and was quite surprised to find myself liking it (I still have the original disk). My sons and their friends loved it.
I would, although I normally prefer games that are made for the current console I am using. On occasion I do play older games for nostalgia reasons.
As an example I do have over sixty PS2 games and even though most of those games (predominately Action/Adventure and RPG's) I have no real interest in replaying there are some which for me are timeless and if I start replaying just ten of them it would take me well over a year.
I don't have a PS4 yet for...
Personally I would like it if the PS4 could copy the PS2 disk image onto it's hard disk and then let you play it. Most PS2 games are going to be under 4.7GB and you could easily install most of the PS2 games you really like and want in less than 200GB.
Of course for those people who have not got a PS2 disk, paying for a digital download would be the next best thing.
Even though I do applaud Sony for allowing PS2 games to be up-scaled and smoothed on the P...
I have a 55" HDTV with a 200Hz refresh rate and PS2 games via my FAT PS3 look quite nice and not that much more different to what I get from an up-scaled DVD. Of course the gameplay has not changed and you can obviously tell the difference between a PS2 game and a PS3 game but the PS2 graphics, at least on my HDTV is still comfortable on the eyes.
Unfortunately most of my PS1 games do look annoyingly grainy so it is normally best to let the display size be about a third ...
Your right PS1 emulation would be nice but all PS3's can play PS1 disks and there is software for the PC that can do this as well, so it's not that big a deal as PS2 emulation.
I have over 60 PS2 games and I would like it if they allowed the PS4 to import the game image like they do with PS4 games onto the hard disk for easy access.
If people who don't have a particular PS2 game then make that game available via digital download for a reasonable price. Win win situation for all concerned.
Not sure how they can prevent piracy although I would think that people who still have their PS2 games are not about to go around installing t...
But, but we all know how Microsoft invented the wheel and helped save the world from that Communistic bit of software called Linux. You mean to tell me that was lies ... I am shocked! :-)
I would say that many PS1 and PS2 machines are pretty much end of life and you would be hard pressed to get one much less get it repaired.
Because most games are either on CD or DVD this media is very easy to damage which will render them useless. People who still have playable disks normally take care of them and do like to replay them on occasion.
I do have a BC PS3 and PS2 games even on my 55" HDTV look quite nice (think up-scaled DVD) although you de...
All PS3's can read and play PS1 game disks (ie. CD) to nearly 100%. They can even smooth and scale those games however on a large screen HDTV the presentation of those games can look fairly grainy although that depends on the game.
It is only the first release PS3's that could play PS2 games. In NTSC regions PS2 backwards compatibility was done by full hardware emulation (basically a full PS2) while in PAL regions PS2 backwards compatibility was done by hardware and s...
Why would you want to do that.
The CELL is quite an elegant design however for years the Intel architecture has dominated the PC gaming industry and that is what developers prefer and for some they did not really want to learn something new.
I am well aware that the popular opinion of the CELL was that it hard to develop for which was not true, however it was different and required developers to approach a solution in a different way.
In an...
It would be even nicer to be able to put your PS2 game disk in and the image is copied to the hard disk in this way you could have a collection of PS2 games at your fingertips.
Not sure how they are going to prevent pirating but maybe they don't really care or could implement a monthly, six monthly or yearly check since only gamers who had original disks could use this.
For gamers who don't have original disks there would always be digital download w...
@NickieNick
Personally I prefer to play PS3 games on my PS3 but on occasion it is nice to play the odd PS1 game (all PS3's can do this) and because I do have a BC PS3 I do on occasion play PS2 games.
If you have a PS3 with PS2 emulation the output is smoothed and up-scaled and can look quite acceptable on a large screen HDTV (mine is 55"). Basically not that much different than an up-scaled DVD.
I do live in a PAL region so our scre...
@abzdiine
All PS3's can play PS1 game disks. It is only the first release PS3's that have hardware (NTSC regions) and hardware/software (PSL regions) PS2 game disk support.
The problem you find is that CD's and DVD's are easily scratched especially when treated badly. Bluray on the other-hand is very difficult to scratch although it is possible to scratch the labels however you can also do this with all media

The problem you have here is that players are individual and like specific types or genres of games. What may be great for some maybe rubbish for others.
