Before anyone thinks of buying the PSVR headset they should definitely try it for a minimum of 15 minutes and any members of the family and even friends who may get to use it should give it go as well.

I do think that for many PSVR will be an entirely new experience depending on their preferences in games. The PSVR could also double as a private HDTV screen as well. This is why it really is important to give it a good test run.

I do think the best way of look...

When looking at resolution you really have to look at what the human eye can see. For a 1080p 6" or 7" display it is very difficult if not impossible for most people to discern individual pixels especially if there is a moving display. Look at at 1080p mobile if you want proof.

What is more important is for the refresh rate of the screen to be 120Hz or higher which will comfortably from a human perspective display moving images at 60 fps up to 120 fps.

There is a pause/unpause icon.

Voice commands are fully supported on the PS4. You only need to plugin your mono headset and microphone which comes standard with your PS4 into your Dual Shock 4. Voice commands on the PS4 do support command navigation, chatting and short-cut recognition.

PS4 voice commands are not supported in-game since that is a function of the game being played.

Granted voice commands on the PS4 are not as elaborate as those using the Kinect but they do work and they will...

The Kinect did not really help the XB1 especially since this made it a $100 dearer than the PS4 at launch.

It wan't just the Kinect but a whole series of arrogant blunders that lost the XB1 any chance of competing against the PS4.

Basically Sony won with the PS4 by not making any changes to policy that the PS3 originally had except for the requirement of mandatory PS+ membership if you wished to play on-line. Even there Sony sweetened the deal with free g...

The PS4 actually supports voice commands via the Dual Shock 4 with a simple mono headset and microphone that comes standard with PS4.

Granted that the Kinect supports voice commands better but it is an additional expense.

In addition the DS4 does have a touch-pad which actually works and makes data entry quicker, however so far I have not seen the touch-pad utilised in many games. In The Witcher 3 a swipe of the touch-pad will bring up the map but this is the...

Well OSX is an Apple proprietary OS however it does support a huge amount of games and applications.

BeOS was discontinued in November 2001. Of course BeOS does have it's die-hard fans but basically it is a dead OS.

As for Linux, it is an open source Kernel that is used on over a billion mobiles and tablets running the Android OS. Android also has a huge amount of games and software. Linux totally dominates the Super Computer market. It is very popular fo...

Once you connect a controller, wireless or wired to a mobile it effectively ceases to be a mobile any-more.

That is not the point. You can plug many smart phones into a HDTV or UHDTV or even a monitor of any size depending on what device interface your mobile and display device have such as HDMI and Thunderbolt.

The only way to overcome the display size issue is to have a projection mechanism built into the mobile however even this is not that portable since you still need a surface to display the information.

Another method is to display via a a virtual reality d...

Lets see a mobile phone with a game-pad and large screen display of say 20"? Are we still talking about mobile gaming?

@joeorc

Any console or hand-held for than matter can display to a 4K and fairly soon 8k display device, however you really aren't providing true 4k content since the 4k device can up-scale your signal.

Even the top of the line gaming rigs have difficulty with true 4k gaming and usually require quite expensive graphic...

Current smart phones support 1080p graphics. I can even play 1080p videos on my Samsung S4 and that technology is a few years old now. My wife's iPhone 6 can also play 1080p videos as well.

As for games on mobiles many do support 720p but some are displaying at 1080p. I don't thine screen resolutions on mobiles will go much beyond 1080p since the human eye would have trouble discerning the difference. Of course you can go for larger screen and greater resolutions but ...

You could go out and buy a 1TB USB stick (see the following: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/1tb... they are surprisingly not that expensive.

@Waluigi_isunderrated

Yes you are quite correct you can plug in some smart phones to your HDTV and effectively your phone actually becomes a controller.

So far touch screens are not really a substitute for a keyboard and mouse or a gaming controller. Still it does depend on what you comfortably get used to.

Not quite true there. As an example moving from Haswell or Broadwell micro-architecture to Skylake micro-architecture requires a motherboard change as well, although it may be possible to keep your DDR3 memory. Of course if you are seriously going to upgrade you should consider DDR4 memory instead and this is especially true if you are interested in over-clocking.

On the plus side you can use your older storage although I would strongly suggest upgrading this as well since HD...

You can use a keyboard and mouse on a console as well.

With the Dual Shock 4 (DS4) you can use the touch-pad for fast access and selection. When you get a PS4 you actually do get a mono headset and microphone which you can plug into your DS4 so you can use simple voice commands.

You are quite right a PC can do more than a console however a console (PS4 especially) was designed as a gaming machine primarily and an entertainment hub secondary. This is why I hav...

This is why I have a setup that will let me switch between my desktop, my PS4 and my backwards compatible PS3 in a few seconds.

Personally I prefer console gaming over PC gaming even though I have a very powerful PC. Of course there are better CPU's, motherboards, Memory and graphics processors but you really will have to pay allot more than it cost for my PS4.

I think it would be safe to say that everyone on this forum has a PC of some sort.

Preferring a PC over a console or vice versa is a personal decision.

You obviously have not looked at some of the really bad games that are still on Steam although I won't deny there are some bad ones on the consoles as well. Of course whether a game is good or bad is entirely subjective.

The PlayStation 5 specifications have not even been released and we are discussing PlayStation 6?

I know my crystal ball is in the shop for upgrading but please. Next we will be discussing a Sword Art On-line console.

I have a high end PC (latest 4 Core i7-6700) however I don't run a Microsoft OS although I can emulate MS Windows 7 if I so wish. For gaming I prefer my backwards compatible PS3 and my PS4 both of which I can select in seconds via my monitor.

The only gaming I do (not very often) on my PC is emulation.

As for Microsoft Windows gaming I can run that in a virtual machine which would completely remove any need for me buying an XB1.
