Played the Doom demo on the PS4 and it looks and plays great (ie. no discernable slowdown and blurring) on my IPS monitor and also on my 55" 200Hz TV.
DirectX is a suite of API's that are proprietary to Microsoft and are only available on the Microsoft Windows operating system. Vulkan on the other hand, are an equivalent suite of open API's that are cross platform which basically means they can be run on the PS4, Android devices, PC (includes XB1) with Microsoft Windows or Linux or Apple's OSX.
As for which suite is better well that a debate for another time.
While I am not that much of a fan of MMORPG's my son is. I do know that Guild Wars 1 and 2 both have a huge following and new content is still being made. Basically, after paying for the game all access is free although you will be paying for some DLC, however that is your choice.
One of the nice features of Guild Wars is the fact that you can actually host the game on your on server(s) and have all your friends play and even outsiders play together.
When I built my Intel core i7 Skylake desktop I actually used the HDMI graphics port on my M170 motherboard. So far I see no need to add an additional graphics card although it does help that I am not into AAA gaming on my desktop. In fact, I don't even run a Microsoft operating system although I do have a locked down Windows 10 in a virtual machine and even then it really does like to phone home so it gets rarely used.
If I get a more powerful graphics card I will get ...
If they are just getting the game as a present I would not be surprised especially if the person purchasing the game as a present has no real interest in games, although I would assume they would know if the person who they are buying the game for:
1) Has a PS4.
2) Does not have that game.
Of course I am making an assumption here.
Considering the PSVR can do a cinema mode pretty much all PS4 games can be displayed on it.
Being able to switch between first and third person can really be helpful and much more immersive especially if you are using a VR headset although that does depend on the gameplay.
@b163o1
What difficulty level did you select?
Basically, there are four levels of difficulty with an additional plus level or perma-death if you compleat the game. The first two are IMHO not worth playing since they are incredibly easy. I know there will be many part-time or casual players who will disagree with me but this game takes over 40 hours to beat and most of those types of players won't go the distance.
The next difficulty...
Of course you can buy a gaming PC, however, for the majority of people the so called "gaming PC" is a "black box" (ok I concede you can get the box in many colours) and they have little if any knowledge of what is really inside or what they need to do if they want to upgrade it other than either buying a new shiny box or paying someone to do the upgrade.
It actually is fairly easy for someone with a little bit of technical knowledge to do some basic rese...
If that's cheating then they are only cheating themselves.
The key words here are. "to be able to buy one".
No matter if you build the PC yourself, buy/pick the parts and get it assembled or just go out and buy a prebuilt one you are still going to have to pay.
While people with some technical knowledge can easy build or get built a PC the majority of people can not, so they would fall into the category of "buy a prebuilt one" assuming, they wanted a gaming PC in the first place.
@uth11
Depending what CPU, Motherboard and Memory you pick you could be looking at $200 (low end) to over $1000 USD and that is not including the price of a decent graphics card. Although I never heard of a 500 millie bit (mb) HD I think you wanted to say a 500 GigaByte (GB) HD.
As for paying $20 USD for Keyboard and $10 USD you are quite right they are cheap but a serious gamer would not consider them.
Personally, I have never been all that interested in handhelds although the Vita can be used as a PS4 controller and some games coming out for the PS4 are cross buy with the Vita.
The PS4 and XB1 were not supposed to be backwards compatible although Microsoft did that after two years and doing this did value add to the XB1 but still did not increase sales in a way Microsoft would have wished.
My 60GB PS3 (PAL Region) still works and plays nearly all PS2 games.
All in all, people only play their older games for nostalgia sake, they rarely go out and pay for them so if you had a collection of 60 PS2 games you would rarely be interest...
You can already get the original PC version of FF7 for the PS4.
If you said you have an Alienware laptop I could believe you but even so, it is still a laptop with a relatively small screen.
My Desktop has an Intel Core i7 6700 Skylake processor with 16GB of DDR4 memory and while that is high-end it is by no means the top-end. There are a few Skylake processors that would make mine look very weak and this year the Kaby Lake successor is supposed to be released.
Will I upgrade? No! I won't since the Desktop which I built fulfills all of my needs for now and possibly a few years from now.
Basically no matter what games rig you get or build...
Well you do have a one and half year wait.
Try the following URLs for some DeviantArt art on The Witcher 3 and "no" it is not pornographic although if you are that way inclined you can find some.
The following are a modern setting with Geralt as a detective.
