Seriously? 8.5 is a nice score.
I'm not buying this (nor pirating, for the matter), myself, though. My personal opinion [based in my assumptions and judgement throughout material I've witnessed] dictates that this game is, to be honest, not fitting of my tastes. And, for what I've seen, the game's writing is horrible, truthfully.
Perhaps, though you should remember than Demon's Souls was, in first place, a next-generation King's Field. I'm quite sure that Japan Studio helped with Demon's Souls, albeit I believe they weren't too critical in development, as I think they just helped with polish of the game.
Then again, polish was probably the reason why Demon's Souls saw critical success, though if I remember correctly it still had some bugs in the Asian versions. And, well, From ...
You know, it isn't as simple as "there are too many cutscenes or not".
It comes with one of the hardest things to do regarding videogame storytelling, and that is pacing.
I've played games that have had tons of text and dialogue (Ar Tonelico and Planescape: Torment come to mind), yet enjoyed them so damn much, I never got bored of all the text those games wanted me to read. Why, that's because they were incredibly well-paced, mixing game...
What's better is how the subtitles are seemingly accurate, which means this is really coming from Suzuki's mouth.
Hopefully this makes SEGA reconsider funding Shenmue III.
I think "Gamecube"'s settin' it too damn high. I mean, remember Baten Kaitos, Wind Waker or FF: Crystal Chronicles?
Yeah.
@TOO PAWNED
"you don't have to be defensive fanboy straight away."
...Well, duh, it's the same artist.
May I ask, what's your argument for saying such harsh words?
@gravemaker
Those are...subjective arguments, one could say.
I find myself liking the graphics. Surely, they're not the best thing ever, and backgrounds could use some work, but the character models are quite well-done, I believe.
"Dialogues are awful", that is something I, myself, would disagree on. Y'see, I kind of love when things get ridic...
Alright, now, NISA, bring Totori over.
Kind of disappointed it isn't a new Mana Khemia or something, though.
Ah, well, always nice to play as an adorable loli.
Thing is, what he's doing is nor innovatine nor new. In fact, what he does...he does it wrong, forgive me if I'm being too harsh, but it's the truth.
We've always had point-and-click adventures and stories, bro.
Have you ever played, say, Grim Fandango or The Longest Journey? Once you do, you'll really be aware of how...BAD Heavy Rain was, for example. Hell, you don't have to take gameplay away to actually make good stories, unlike wha...
Brofist.
"Some of us" is an astonishing minority, mind you.
Believe it or not, he's right.
Sadly.
I mean, have you seen kids calling games "trash" because they have an score of, say, 7 or so?
That's basically a perfect example. Sure, there are niché companies with their fanbase, but...that's about it.
Vagina monster is still the best monster.
I don't see the problem, myself.
Don't have to bitch about it, the religious tones are the main concept of this game.
Well, hopefully that and their experience with Demon's Souls helps From obtain a more steady framerate on the PS3, which was one of the main weaknesses regarding AC:FA for said console.
I don't generalize JRPGs as a single game, and acknowledge that there are bad, and good, games in the genre.
Personally, I'm looking foward to Disgaea 4, Tales of Graces f and Ar Tonelico Qoga, among others, this year. Might not get extraordinary reviews, but I honestly love those series.
I also enjoy them more than highly-rated AAA super-mega-budget games, hilariously.
Moreover, I feel that the general disappointment that JRPGs are s...
Either they shipped out copies already, or yes, there's someone in EA leakin' them games.
Aww yeah, Ar Tonelico! 12 days to go.
...Even when one of the Cons of the review is: "Your fighting characters don’t start with any Super Moves."
Seriously, dude? It's an RPG. I haven't heard complaints of not being able to cast a world-destroying summon at level 1 in any RPG.
Also, a "panic" button? Well, that's convenient, Gust!
So, let me get this straight:
"This game is too hard and punishes you for dying. It's crap, 5/10."
Seems like the average review nowadays. U.S. version should at least have the super-easy modo for these guys to stop complaining, though.
Look, the guy even says it: "Between the arbitrary difficulty and limited lives, Catherine feels more like a port of an old-school arcade game than a modern AAA title."
