@mikeslemonade Who says BOTW and Odyssey will be the best games on the system? Even if you're narrow minded and think nothing can beat Mario and Zelda mainline titles, whose to say they both won't get another one on the console years from now?
The Wii wasn't "freak luck". It was the result of reaching the audience Nintendo built it for, the casual audience. Unfortunately for them, the process of doing so burnt bridges with the rest of their audience for the Wii U era.
"Leading the way", by copying what Nintendo did with the Virtual Console like 10 years ago, with a much less compelling library.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't ALL Nintendo mobile titles been worked on either completely, or at least partially, by 3rd parties like Niantic, DENA, etc.? So I'm not sure how that would affect their console game making.
How are smartphones, something that has had a longer life cycle than any console or handheld, a "fad"?
Nice that the old timers are stepping out of the way for this young 50 year old upstart.
I think that's one of the cool things about the about the "Big 3" dynamic, in that combined they cover the whole spectrum of gamers tastes.
Nintendo is very japanese centric, Microsoft focuses on the Western gamer, and Sony lies somewhere in the middle.
@Razmiran Because linear, enclosed spaces, is literally what makes Metroid work. Look at the reception to other similar series that tried to go more open, like Resident Evil and 6, or MGS5.
Also, "if done correctly" is a BS defense of an idea. If it can actually work, explain what 'correct" is, rather than promoting this silly idea that every series ever would be better open world.
Open world Metroid is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard.
Try a little harder with your Nintendo bashing please. This game both technically and artistically is nothing like anything in the 3ds library.
Things that deserve praise get praise, things that deserve criticism get criticism. Let's not pretend like Nintendo isn't being ripped for their approach to online service, 3rd support, etc.
It's innovative BECAUSE Sony and Microsoft would never do it. I'm not saying I'm even a fan of Labo, but it's ballsier than anything you'll ever see the other two try.
F-zero's sales have declined with every iteration, Golden Sun isn't their IP, and they ARE making new Donkey Kong games.
It's called renting.
I mean, are they not using it for FF7 Remake?
Nope. It definitely has the so called "basics" they have, thus why we see some games made for them, coming to the Switch. It simply can't handle anything that goes beyond that, is the problem.
Remaking "Mario and Luigi" series games on a system just a generation or two ahead was already iffy, but remaking a GCN title for a system that is equal to lesser powerful, with worse resolution, is borderline ridiculous.
At least read the freaking news header you imbecile, let alone the actual article. It's an indies presentation, it has nothing to do with Nintendo Labo. Try better at your forced bias next time.
@-Foxtrot "Yeah and" what? What studio in their right mind would fully remake a hated game, just to at best get a mediocre sales return, when they could just simply do something new better the first time?
Well yes, kudos to them for doing it NOW. They certainly created enough excuses during the height of the Wii U era. Like Miyamoto claiming fans/developers didn't "understand" the two screen technology. Or them trying to bend the narrative as "People thought the Wii U was an add-on", despite the fact that the "Super" NES nor Gameboy "Advance" had any such problems.
