One thing about NES games is that if you didn't have to use continues and start over, most of them wouldn't last more than an hour and a half to two hours (Battletoads, TMNT, Contra, etc.). Those games were so difficult because they had a certain number of lives/continues.
You can be silly and claim they are harder than games like NGS, DMC3, hardest mode on many games, etc., but then consider the difficulty if you took out checkpoints and continues, and put in a 3-life system ...
@5.1
I think I might agree with you...but...err...what?
@Shnazzyone
FFVI has always been my favorite in the series, and my 2nd favorite game of all time behind Xenogears. If they are gonna do a remake, I would rather it be of FFVI, but that's not gonna happen.
If they do a full scale HD remake, it will be of FFVII, simply because that's the one they know they will make the most money off of (although I'm sure 6-10 would all make a lot as well). Sadly, I'm afraid if they do end up remaking FFVI, it will be for a handheld...
Well, it's about time we get a site stupid enough and with bad enough taste to give GOTY to MW2. We all knew it would happen sooner or later.
I agree with you on that point. The reason FFXII's story was so bad is very easy to explain: lack of character development. Every other FF game's main focus was the characters (FF4-10 anyway). FFXII's main focus was the political war and the characters were there to move the plot along, where it should have been the other way around. If FFXIII focuses on the characters as it's main aspect, I believe I will enjoy the game, even if it is linear (hell, so was FFX). It's also the reason I'm...
@3.3 If you followed FF7 anywhere near as much as I did (unhealthy level at the time), you would know that's not true about what you are saying. In terms of internet info, yes, FF7 was far less exposed, but there were multiple 20+ page previews of FF7 over a year before it was released (in Japan)revealing quite a lot about pretty much everything that happened for the first 15 hours of the game, which is about what is shown on FFXIII (Gamefan being the main magazine that covered 7).

It's not like people are forcing everyone to read the information about the game. This review is actually really good: funny in parts, well written and gives good, objective information without providing many spoilers.
The game is not a traditional RPG. It's much more of an Action RPG, similar to a mix between...hmm, kind of odd, but Zelda and Diablo. Not sure if that's an accurate description. What DigitalAnalog said isn't completely true though about being innovative. Yes, there a few unique aspects, but it's very similar to the King's Field series (although much better, I didn't even really like King's Field).
The point to the game is collecting demon's souls, which drop from every enemy...
@3.1 ...and early in the release of FFXI in the US, it almost ruined the game entirely. Not because of the language barrier, because they handled that rather well. It was because of the fact the game had been out for 8+ months in Japan already, so the economy was screwed up for new players and a few other problems that go along with an 8month-year head start.
I really hope FFXIV has localized servers, or at least has a global release date (not sure if this was announced or not)...
OMG! Spoiler tag! You just ruined the ending. ;) (since sarcasm is hard to detect on the internet, I'm j/k)
The Persona games have auto-battle, as well as many RPGs, and it's only useful on trash fights that you wouldn't do anything but basic attacks on anyway.
While some of the games they have listed belong in top 10's and it is commendable they didn't waste a spot with MW2, anyone that omits UC2 from a top 10 list (or top 3) for this year has horrible taste in games or is just plain stupid.
While I agree FFX is probably my favorite ps2 game (equal with Dark Cloud 2 and Persona 4...just so many great ps2 games though), I don't put it at the top because it's long. If that were the case, I would put FFXII above it, because it's a good 30-40+ hours longer if you do everything in both games. God of War 1/2 are near the top with the other games I mentioned simply due to fun-factor (which includes story/graphics/gameplay/etc.).
I'm sure this reply is overblown and you di...
Not even close to NGS or DMC3 difficulty, anyone who says differently hasn't played all the games or for some reason sucks at DS. Of course, DS isn't a hack-and-slash either.
The difficulty in DS will diminish VERY quick once you learn the game and enemy strategies. It remains challenging, but not to the level you were probably expecting or started out thinking it would be after playing a few hours. Something like NGS/DMC3 is difficult, not just because it requires those sam...
Most of these complaints are completely dependent on how long the person saying them has played the game. All FF games are VERY VERY linear for the first 1/4-1/5 of the game. FFVII, the first big chunk, you are stuck in Midgar. Almost all FF have a very linear path early on, because they are building the story. Later one they introduce new aspects to the story and gameplay mechanics, and allow you to move around and do stuff more freely.
Honestly, what this whole thing sounds...
Game Arts developed all three games, and they own the IP. I don't know if they decided against it, but I'm pretty sure there was gonna be a Grandia Online at some point in the future.
Suikoden is far from a dead series. Suikoden V was released just about 3 years ago, and there was a DS game released last year. Granted, the series has gotten progressively worse since Suikoden 2, I would still like to see a next gen (ps3) release.
Arc the Lad only had two games that...
Whether or not stuff has to be repeated on a blu-ray is dependent on how efficient they are when printing it. However, what isn't able to be changed is that fact that on multiple discs, a HUGE chunk of each disc will be the exact same stuff. Just like every other multi-disc-based rpg available, I'm sure most locations can be revisited on each disc, so all that stuff is just reprinted for each disc, along with the big chunk of data MS requires on their discs for security purposes (unless the...
Grandia 3 wasn't bad, but in my opinion, it was definitely the worst of the series (not including the horrible spin-offs), with a lackluster story, which was the best part of the previous two games. The first one was by far the best, and is one of my favorite RPGs on the ps1 (one of many, that is).
I would love to see a new Grandia, but hope it's more like the first one.
I have a feeling, now that XIII has been released, there will start to be a lot more FFvXIII footage/info available, at least in Japan. They're probably pretty far along on it by now.
@3.3
Never understood the dislike some people have towards Chrono Cross. In my opinion, it was just as good as Chrono Trigger, and did many things better. The storyline was FAR deeper, the game was actually long (Chrono Trigger was a very short game for an RPG), the game was more difficult (although neither one is hard by any means), and the battle system was better in every way other than less use of combining techniques. The being said, Chrono Trigger was a little more polis...
