@Nodoze: If a new PlayStation portable uses a chip based on the FX-9800p then games could just be scaled down to run on it, it wouldn't have it's own custom exclusive games, because it wouldn't be a new PlayStation platform.

Like PS4 Pro plays the same games as the base PS4 the Portable would just run those games on a handheld or tablet style system.
Individual game developers probably wouldn't even need to patch their games specifically for it, Son...

@KwietStorm: Pro's been out 6 months, which is more than a few months and if an improved model released in November 2017 the base Pro model would have been out for a full year, but it would still serve a purpose as a more affordable upgrade over the Slim and launch models.
Pro being half assed is one small opinion, to the people that are buying the device it's still an improvement over the launch model, an option they were provided.

PlayStation would only b...

Putting out a portable PS4 wouldn't require a tonne of resources, because base PS4 games could be tweaked to run natively on it with very little work and AMD already has an SoC Sony can use, it's called the FX-9800p, even at 28nm it only uses 12-15 Watts and could run games that are 1080p on base home console PS4 at 720p with very little work to settings.
Sure Sony may want to use a smaller fabrication node to reduce power consumption, maybe have AMD put in a CPU core closer ...

Sony doesn't really need to do anything on the hardware front, but they could have made some added tweaks to PS4 Pro, like refreshing the design to allow for increased GPU clockspeeds, swap the HD Blu-ray for a 4K one and improving the system's cooling for a negligible price increase.
Possibly add another 4GBs of GDDR5 and up bandwidth to help with higher res native 4K games.

It's GPU is basically an RX 480/580, which can be clocked up to something like...

Oh the Indies will be there, most likely awesome studios like Housemarque and Wild Sheep Studios will have their great games.

Sony also needs a tonne of space for their generation defining AAA, exclusive games, which include 1)God of War, 2)Spider-Man, 3)GT-Sport, 4)Knack 2, 5)Dreams, 6)Days Gone, 7)Detroit: Become Human, 8)The Last of Us: Part 2, 9)Sucker Punch's New IP, 10)From Software's Next PS4 exclusive and the host of other surprise games besides SP and FS r...

@Lennoxb63: There are a load of videos on youtube which can show viewers how to select the required parts and build a rig.
TBH firstly you need to have an interest in this subject, if you're interested then you'll source the information needed to teach yourself how to make a PC and troubleshoot initial construction issues.
There are umpteen forums, tech sites and people online who will be happy to talk people through a build.

If you don't want ...

GTAV has apparently sold 3X that much, they're also rolling in cash from the game's DLC.
No doubt RD2 will top their sales estimates and when the next GTA releases they'll at least sell half of GTAV's numbers before they even touch next gen.

If GTAV has sold 75 million units in 4 years then the studio have averaged 18.75 million units per year, there aren't many publishers that have sold as much software as Rockstar have and while RD2 has been delayed it will no doubt move that average higher, when the next GTA launches it will probably do the same.

I can put together a quad core Athlon based rig, with all new parts, with a Blu Ray drive, but no GPU £290, you can add a GPU that will provide better performance than either PS4 or XB1 for about £100.
If you want 4K gaming with decent settings you could add a £200 GPU, £400-500 is pretty affordable for what that rig can do.

Even Windows can be added for free by just downloading the software and using a non registered version, totally legal.

BTW Lost Legacy is a proper stand alone adventure, it's not just DLC.
It's very likely GoW, Spidey, Knack 2 and GT Sport release before 2018, because they're established franchises and Sony has to make space in their lineup for future games.

Dreams, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, The Last of Us Part 2, Sucker Punch's new IP and From Software's Next PS4 exclusive need their space to breath in 2018.
There are then the 2019 games in rot...

TLOUP2 gameplay demo could be their opener, with a 2018 release window for the full game, I think that will happen because Sony will want to mix up their formula from PSX 2016 and put Naughty Dog front and center.
Bruce Strailey's game could also be teased just after, I'm pretty sure it's been in pre-production as long as TLOU: Part 2, if not longer, full development may have to wait until Uncharted Lost Legacy goes gold though.

The Bruce Straley game c...

@Goldby: I think it's more likely Sony will drop the 1TB PS4 to $249 and the Pro to $349, I doubt Sony will bother doing it at their presser though, they have way too many existing announced major titles to deal with and a tonne of other new AAA exclusives that have been in long term development to deal with.

The game initially began development in 2014, that was likely pre-production and initial planning, but of course most of the Studio was working on Uncharted 4 until April 2016 when the majority of the studio's workforce wrapped up to go gold on U4 for it's release in May.

By the time Uncharted 4 finished development Naughty Dog had added significantly more staff to their ranks, growing from 200 to 300 people, they've added more since then and could have up to 50...

Depends how much of a price cut it is.
Going from $299 to $199 for a 1TB PS4 would be major, especially if it's happening when a bunch of new games start releasing.

That kind of price point could cause huge sales increases.

Spidey's been in development since Sunset Overdrive released, that was October 2014, though it went gold late September if memory serves me right.
Spider-man looked great at E3 and the Pro's reveal.

It's also a franchise that carries huge weight, Fall 2017 release seems very likely at this point in time.

3298d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

Spidey will have been in development for 3 years by late September 2017, it's pretty likely that could come out in October this year.

GoW's had anywhere from 3 to 4 years by that time, tbh both it and Spider-Man are well established franchises that can stand out from the crowd of major multiplats, along with GT Sport this would give Sony a huge Holiday season, backed by their marketing deals, great bundles and likely price cuts for PS4 Slim and Pro.
Knack 2...

Actually AMD already has their Bristol Ridge APU (Specifically the FX-9800p), which Sony could get them to base a portable PS4 SoC on.
Even manufactured at 28nm, with a quad core Excavator CPU clocked from 2.7 to 3.6Ghz and an 8CU 758Mhz GPU (that's producing 776GFlops), it only uses 12 to 15 watts and can run any major modern games at settings that work fine for small screens.
AMD and Sony's fabrication partners scaled the base PS4's APU to 16nm, there are no re...

The majority actually always talked about the games, knowing that just like last gen it would take time for developers to iterate on their tech and ideas to get quality new entries in existing franchises and new IPs out.
The power side of the equation was one factor that Sony have had in their favor and will have done so for over 4 years by now in the minds of their audience, along with those who were on the fence of which system to buy.

Value for money was probabl...

Scorpio's price point should be reflected in the cost of the parts that are used to make it.
The system's GPU only adds an extra 4 useable Compute Units compared to PS4 Pro, even if you add the cost of redundant CUs to bring chip yields up you're looking at 8CUs.
It's the increased clockspeed of the GPU that's responsible for the majority of the performance boost over Pro's GPU, added clockspeeds to a processor don't cost much, especially when cur...

Actually a PS4 portable could release within the year, AMD put out the Bristol Ridge FX-9800p at the end of 2016, which has 4 excavor CPU cores, clocked from 2.7 to 3.6Ghz, along with 8 Compute Units on the GPU, running at 758Mhz.
It only uses 12 to 15 watts, that SoC is made on a 28nm manufacturing process and the GPU hits 776GFlops with the above configuration.

Sony could use that chip straight and just downscale 1080p PS4 games to 720p, tweak the graphical setti...
