I absolutely agree with Jim on this one. It's like he's speaking my mind - enough with the "You can't tell the difference" or "30FPS feels better or like a movie." Screw that. 60 is more fluid, more responsive, just plain better.

Not that a random 60fps game is better than a 30 inherently (Zelda: OoT on the N64's certainly not worse than Toshinden 3 just because T3 had a blocky 60fps option), but if you want to make a better game, make it ...

The Giant Bomb guys are great at that also, so long as you're listening to the Bombcast and not just reading web content. Even when they think something's really bad and they still play it anyway (like that WWE Card Battle game), you'll get to know exactly how they feel about it.

Guessing that was because they were in negotiations for some extra advertisement support from Nintendo, and when they agreed, there were probably some extra contracts being sent back and forth to confirm the entire deal - hence why the announcement that the game was just going to be on there was later.

The IP holders of Tetris have always been pretty shrewd in their business practices. They were one of the first companies out there to make a monetized F2P out of an existing franchise, too. Their line seems to be "We own Tetris, and people know Tetris, so we can charge extra and people will still buy Tetris."

20 bucks on the eShop (which is the only way I get 3DS games these days) is fine, so long as they can live up to the quality we got in Tetris DS. If they can&...

Man, I was all ready to jump all over this list, but I really can't argue with this. Dark Souls isn't just a great game, it changed the minds of countless developers on exactly who their audiences were and what they wanted out of a game. Even COD4 I understand - I'm not a military shooter fan, but I played the heck out of that single-player campaign.

Bayonetta's an interesting one. It was a technical marvel and it out-DMC'd DMC4 and the DmC reboot. It was ...

Whoa. All 5 Namco Museums?? That's awesome / why the heck weren't they on there before?

Yeah, and on cross-generation I completely agree with him. You could split your team later on to port the thing, but you need a game like that optimized and running as well as it can - otherwise, what's the point?

I don't think this was a decision based on #GamerGate at all. UI design and programming takes far longer than I'll even be able to fathom, especially given there were probably five or six different iterations of the homepage floating around Valve before the final one. You could see them adapting to a new style far before the Twitter-splosion, with blue tones hitting Steam betas.

I think it was especially in response to the awful tactics some Early Access and just out...

@Alsybub

Whoa! TIL! Very cool post.

Considering the PS4 hasn't been out for too long, and none of the current-gen consoles have that many games, you'd be expected to think the PS4 would have an indie PC port on PS Plus every month for a while until the big guys let their old stuff go. Yes, they actively pursued independent developers, as they did for years, but this time around it was super-important, because whether you're on an Xbox One or a P...

The devs must have figured that Plague Inc. would be bought by strategy fanatics, which are most definitely on the PC above all other systems. I mean, if Tropico survived through four sequels, they could at least get a couple of bucks.

I do think there's an offloading of crap from especially the Google Play store on Steam and other sites lately. And still, the one game I want on PC from mobile, Wayward Souls, hasn't made the transition yet. Sigh.

If...

Tabata made one of my favorites, Crisis Core, so you'll see zero complaints from me as he takes over, the action gets simpler, and the tone lightens up and matures away from all the zippers and brooding we've seen in the series as of late.

I'd be remiss to not include my friends who play 5-6 hour sessions of Arkham Horror or Caylus in a "gamer" category. Or the top Go players, for that matter. Yes, board game players are gamers, as people who read Web news articles or eBooks are still readers.

lol, yes, because if you want an authoritative view on gamers, just ask the American Enterprise Institute. Excuse me while I go get my flat tire repaired at a Starbucks.

@tekolie, I wonder how much "what they are playing and where they are playing" actually matters.

Big game publishers releasing $60 games have their target demographics in mind - they're not going anywhere, and they have that detailed data you're looking for as proprietary information. Often that type of data in other industries is released in an expensive paywalled trade report meant for other business insiders. Look into Nielsen PRIZM to see the types of gr...

The point of Metal is to kick the shoddy visuals you're citing out of games made for the new iPhones, though. Also, there's a ton of great independent games on the iPhone that you can't get anywhere else, my favorites being Ridiculous Fishing and Wayward Souls (okay, WS will be on PC at some point, but I love using that as a time-waster in lines and waiting rooms).

Are the graphics high-tech on those games? Absolutely not. Do I enjoy them infinitely more than some...

I'm not always a fan of Twinfinite's stuff, but this is great, and honestly it resonates with what I love about both Kojima and Del Toro. If they could really bring Pan's Labyrinth's atmosphere and MGS2's metanarrative into one horror game, that would be amazing.

It's an alright looking game, but it's no bellwether of the state of a console.

Funny how the Kinect suddenly is able to be disabled and optional, and suddenly Blizzard confirms it can run the thing at 1080p. Good job with that Kinect, guys, you certainly *are* the controller! :P

Guys. Guys. If you convert a low-FPS game to a high-FPS game without adding stuff in, gameplay elements change. Yes, even the modded Dark Souls on PC, although I'll take the changes to play that at 60.

Now, that's not saying Capcom's kinda dumb for doing this, but they figure the cost of adding intermediary animation frames outweighs the sales impact only 30FPS will have on a Gamecube up-res budget project. This ain't The Last of Us, it wasn't built to be ...

Mr-Dude, those would be far more expensive.

The HD remaster of RE1 is based on the previously-existing Gamecube version, with some stuff sharpened and up-rezzed. They're basically just upgrading assets and making the controls a little more tolerable.

RE2 and RE3 never got that treatment, although they did get a port to the Gamecube. Capcom would have to make many more *new* assets for those games to be put into HD - otherwise, you'll just get what y...
