Absolutely agreed here.
When Final Fantasy jumped from linear to more open (X-XII), the storytelling took a huge hit because you had designers so used to an old style who couldn't adapt. The narrative wound up heavy in the beginning and the very end of the game, and not much in-between.
This seems to be exactly what they're indicating for MGSV - here's cinematic Kojima trying to make an open-world game, and sure enough, there are pacing issues w...
LOL, Russian F2P versions of games. CoD's doing a similar thing in China and I... think it's working? I remember Jeff Gerstmann going through all kinds of crap to get his PC to play it.
Yes! This is awesome!
I've never played a Mighty Switch Force game before, but this means Jake Kaufman is making another MSF soundtrack, and those are GREAT.
I think there's a bigger chance Mario will just wake up from Subcon at the end and be like "I wish I were that tall in real life. Oh well."
Oh, they're bringing Steins; Gate to PS3! If you've got one and haven't played the game yet, definitely do so, great story. If not, watch the anime, as it does a decent job of retelling what's usually a visual novel.
Psyched for the MM Legacy collection, it seems like it's very archival instead of just a collection of the games themselves.

Ah, this is the one from the August Update trailer! Great.
Promotional swag is given out to whoever a company thinks could influence someone else into purchasing something. If you attend a conference, you get vendor swag. This is just more targeted toward YouTubers instead of retailers (which was the way they did this in the 90s when everyone rented games and actual mom-and-pop stores existed). Maybe we're all bought and sold, then, but it's not unique to 2K.
Is it ethical for that guy to advertise that 2K gave him a boombox ...
They went through the trouble of reviewing Girls Like Robots? Okay, interesting.
I really have to take Famitsu's scores with a grain of salt. They haven't been reliable in the past, especially not with Japanese games. Final Fantasy XIII, for example, was one point away from a perfect score. It was pretty, and it had a bangin' soundtrack, but that's not a 39/40, guys.
It's still a good sign that it isn't total crap, though! Maybe this ...
Aw, you got quoted, Snookies!
Personally, I keep my games around just in case I want to play them again. It happens, especially with Nintendo consoles for some reason.
I thought this article was going to be satire, honestly. That's a really weird way of framing used game sales...
Oh, you beat me to it! I agree, of course.
Sony has zero reason to "win" Gamescom over Microsoft. Europe tends to be pretty keen on Sony from the get-go and sales are pretty great over there. They have all the reason in the world to wait longer to release more information on their upcoming games and give their developers more time for new demo builds.
From what I saw in a demo, it's the art gallery that takes up most of the space. There's a lot of high-res digitized older art from each game and from advertisements and such - which is nice, that's the kind of thing I'd want out of a collection of old games that distinguishes it from just roms. They also did something with the soundtrack to get it as authentic as they could, which possibly has something to do with it. There are some different modes, too, but those are mostly ...
Well, unlike the Scrolls fiasco or King trying to trademark "Candy" and "Saga," Oculus' product as an affordable mass-market item is far off in the future, so this shouldn't be an issue. This reeks of the Samsung-Apple lawsuits which took forever and basically just kept some lawyers employed for a while.
It was! After I thought that MGS2's brand of postmodernism was *all* speeches and themes, those little things the article mentions took me by surprise!
True. It depends on the type of postmodern, I guess, since the term has a couple of different meanings, which in itself is postmodern... *falls over dizzy*
But seriously, this was my first look at deconstructionism, it was actually pretty important to me! I *kinda* saw a little of that in Earthbound, but it was subtle. MGS2's ending is like a postmodern blunt object! The article really does outline the subtle stuff I missed as a kid, though.
(I guess you...
"First of all, I just want to point out that my favourite of all the Final Fantasy games so far has been VI."
I like this guy. Proceed, Tabata!
It'll get attention, and it may be the proof-of-concept someone else needs in order to hire the devs for a different project - not everyone's a great creator of new characters and art, but hook these guys up with a writer and an artist and you've got a pretty good shot at an enjoyable game.
The profit margins of those early titles were enjoyed heavily by the dudes at the top of the companies back then, too. These days, AAA games have to avoid risks because those margins are lower, but consumers won't bite for games above $60 apparently.
But you're right - they do pay more than 60 for sure, with DLC, but also with special editions, memorabilia, etc. Heck, I did it with Witcher 3 - got the Season Pass at a small discount. Will I play all that stuff? Maybe....
They had a "heritage survey" a while ago about what games people wanted them to bring back.
I'm wondering if Konami's going to rebuild itself from the rubble of this stupid move once their budgets are a little more free. Like, bring back the guys that made Suikoden, and make a sequel to Suikoden II, for example. Or spend far less on a much better retro-styled Castlevania than the last two. (Yes, yes, Bloodstained, I know, but look at what happened to Mighty ...
