Yes! Virt is awesome!

He's definitely unabashed in his love of Nineteen Eighty-Four. Diamond Dogs is a reference to the Bowie album inspired by the novel, which makes that tweet especially referential. He actually wanted to start the game with the tune "Diamond Dogs" and the idea was shot down.

(Please let this be an announcement that the deleted scene that supposedly ties up the story's loose ends is going to be produced...)

It's a good day to own a PS3, PSP, or Vita, that's for sure - Ni no Kuni for 6 bucks! SF Alpha 3 Max for $3! RE4 for $4! (Seriously, if you have a PSP or Vita, that's an awesome game.) Interesting NEO-GEO titles, too, like Magician Lord or the cartoony League Bowling.

A few good PS4 offers, but nothing too big. This guy's screenshots show "Unavailable" for FFXIV PS4 - it's $11.99 on the store page. (Just remember, there's a monthly subscripti...

It's a bit of an isolation thing on their part, I think. Square seemed to listen less to Western audiences than they listened to Western sales data and focus testing in the 2000's, resulting in half-baked Americanized ideas and game designers scratching their heads and saying "How could we make our game more like Call of Duty?" (No really, FFXIII) It's almost like they acquired Eidos and just asked them what to do next, and it didn't work.

Now they ...

Eh, I hope not. UC2's single-player was great, and the multiplayer was a big component there. So big that it's all you would hear about from ND for months and months. Even the Bombcast guys were extremely skeptical about how single-player would turn out given the PR was focused on multiplayer, and we got that freaking awesome game.

I'm saying "I hope not" because I'd like to think that Naughty Dog still isn't that stupid among a growing number of...

Absolutely agreed. I get that Naughty Dog probably needs to cover some ridiculous expenses to make this game as detailed as what we saw at E3, but at least make it fair to us single-player types. The game's primarily about the single-player anyway.

There was an article a while back saying MGSV was the sequel to Far Cry 2 that it deserved, which makes a lot more sense than comparing it to the 4th one.

MGSV's definitely one of my favorite open-world games already, even if 2's still my favorite MGS.

Polyphony fell into the same rut that every old company did in their transition to HD. With that level of content at the new resolution, it was just too expensive to do when 5 came around - hence "Prologue." 6 was basically what 5 should have been, but it was far too late to improve on the mess that 5 was. The work they did in HD on PS3 should translate better to HD work on PS4, and with any luck the franchise will make a comeback.

I think they'll have trouble getting everyone back, and it will be an uphill battle for them to ever make gains in the amount of people who play any sequel they try to make after this without Kojima due to fans dropping off.

They're going to try, of course. Their survey indicated that they wanted to know what franchises their fans wanted to play again, and everything but Metal Gear was on there, because by default they'll bring it back, it seems.

Eh. I get that these guys are trying to do something different with a really complicated backend system that was optimized for another set of hardware, but this doesn't have much to do with what we tend to focus on here - graphical power, etc.

It's like with Nuclear Throne, Vlambeer does have to keep their systems in check because every bullet, enemy, and character is being traced with a lot of details which allow each one to be modified via mutations like telekinesi...

I'm a fan of both, for all their eye candy and gimmicks on both sides. It's why I'm a huge fan of MGSV!

1) They certainly did learn from FarCry 3, which I see as a good thing, not a problem! It's not "basically FarCry 3," it's Metal Gear with some changes inspired by it.

2) Completely agree. I feel like maybe this was Kojima going "No! You WILL understand that this is a Hideo Kojima game somehow!" He at least deserves that.

3) Because I didn't play Peace Walker, the Fulton is new to me, and I love it. It rewards you for not killi...

If this game can deliver on its promises, then holy freaking crap. It looks wonderful.

Thanks!

Yeah, I think everyone's converging on a solid 9 at this point. Jeremy Parish (at USGamer), who seems to share a lot of my sensibilities in gaming, gave it a 10, so I'm pretty psyched.

Huh. A separate video review. For reference, this is the original written review: http://www.destructoid.com/...

I didn't hear him but the radio was all like "HEY IT'S A WILD DOG" so I stopped what I was doing and found a puppy.

Maybe, but I want to give Kojima a little more credit than that and just say that he's a bit of a perv. You see it throughout the series with the incessant Playboy/magazine/photo references. These games are very self-expressive of what he likes, so it would follow that Kojima didn't just suddenly go "OMG WE NEED TO TARGET GUYS I FORGOT ABOUT THAT QUICK MAKE SOMEONE NAKED."

He's certainly not on the sociological side of making a difference in how we treat...

I mean, it's dumb, but it's Kojima dumb - it's humorous and serious at the same time. Kinda like when you're painfully sneaking out of a hospital with troops gunning down everyone while the camera's focused on Ishmael's butt sticking out of the scrubs. Equal opportunity?

Yeah. It's almost like this separate universe where the "whales" can go to spend more money and the rest of us can give zero craps about it. Like KojiPro got forced by Konami to add microtransactions in, so they sequestered it off somewhere. I don't mind it, especially since MGO isn't this at all. Jim Sterling did have a point that the game's design (at least FOB) isn't what it could be due to this system, but eh, if even the main multiplayer (MGO) isn't this...

A free pass? Maybe by early reviewers who agreed to be in that review event thing and ignore the online. Everyone else was furious, much more so than w/ TLOU. The only bigger microtransaction anger I've seen in a full game is Dragon Age: Inquisition, and that was multiplayer only too.
