I never understood why people takes things so seriously. Even rooting for your sports team, people take it seriously. When I go see a movie it is about the movie. So if I want to discuss the movie with other people it's about the movie and maybe the acting. That doesn't mean I join the Brad Pitt or Halle Berry bandwagon. It also isn't about the studio who released the movie. I never hear anyone carry on about Dreamworks. Sure people talk about Disney but it's never malicious l...
That's because the consumer is also evolving. We have become masters of multi-tasking. Very few people go looking for a cellphone that is about phone call quality. They instead want other features besides just talking to people. Why have a game console that just plays games and a bluray/DVD player that just plays movies and a CD player that just plays music? They are able to integrate them all into one device now. Nintendo always seems to be the last to adapt, riddled with history and liv...
From the article:
"Sometimes, Lara slips and tumbles as I’m pressing the thumbstick forward: collapsing into a heap after diving past a falling rock, missing a handhold halfway up a radio mast. It’s meant to feel thrilling, moments of near-death to keep the pulse racing. It succeeds instead in frustrating me. I can see the obvious coming, but I can’t avoid it. I can’t do anything but press the thumbstick forward as control is wrested away from me, keeping the scene rolling as Lar...
People often forget just how bad the PS3 launch line-up was. The difference is the PS3 had allocated a great library over the years. Once it got MGS4 it was on a roll. The status around Nintendo is prove it first. Consumers have seen since the Gamecube that it is the odd 3rd party title that Nintendo consumers are interested in. It's the 1st party games that they are after and Nintendo has done a poor job in the past convincing gamers to buy the system for 3rd party games as well.

Competition is always welcomed but I have a feeling it won't get the support needed to become mainstream. It will also be hard for game developers to make money on. They will allow anyone to release games on it so there won't be much quality control. On top of that Android has shown consumers are not willing to pay as much as compared to IOS devices when it comes to gaming.
You can't keep giving Nintendo excuses. If Sony or Microsoft came out with a cellphone and didn't have a camera in it they would get blasted too even if it was their first cellphone. To be competitive you need to be up to date with what the competition is doing at the time. You can't excuse yourself and say well this is their first try so give them some flexibility. It doesn't work that way.
What I will be lenient on is the articles comments about the TV funct...
I agree. What I meant was sad because of the hackers. I mean it's pretty bad that you have to think about those that want to cheat beforehand.
Let me guess, you own a PS3? It is such a breath of fresh air to see other PS3 owners on this site. A real rare treat I tell you.
Sarcasm aside I do agree the list is weak. They list 5 games. I can list 10 just off of the top of my head:
1. GTA V
2. Tomb Raider
3. The Last of Us
4. Bioshock Infinite
5. Pikmin 3
6. Total War: Rome II
7. Beyond: Two Souls
8. Lego City Wii U
9. Company of Heroes 2 ...
I'm sure it is all designed to be unlocked at a certain date/time. It's pretty sad that they have to put in safety nets to make sure hackers don't ruin the surprise.
I'm going to take my time before I decide on getting one or not. The system looks interesting and could be a lot of fun.
1. I would like to see just how committed 3rd party publishers are
2. I want to see how the online turns out and how large the community is for games
3. Waiting to see what Sony, Microsoft and Valve have in store next year
4. Waiting for more Nintendo exclusive titles to appear
Is it possible to download the updates onto the PC? If so then it could be possible to download different region updates and just transfer it from the PC to the gamepad. If not then I'm sure somebody will find a way for a workaround.
I understand why they have regional locks but I don't think in todays times that it's no longer needed. We now live in a world where we are all connected and people are well aware that some things may not be properly translated.
Superman,
Americans always buys what is cheapest? Is that why the iPad sold so poorly against other tablets? Americans have bought the Playstation One and PS2 more than what Nintendo offered for less price. So don't be upset just because the PS3 failed to give Sony the Triple Crown. Even in Japan the PS3 hasn't reached the same success the PS2 or PS1 did. So is everyone cheap?
As for the PS4, Sony will likely take a more conservative approach. The PS3 and the ...
That's probably why it will be limited to streaming 4K and maybe be something linked to their acquisition of Gaikai.
Sony should really get away from using their game console to sell other hardware. Especially if that added cost is transferred to the consumer. The original Playstation and Playstation 2 had CD and then DVD playback. It really helped Sony sell those formats. Difference is those consoles both cost $299 U.S. at launch. That's where the PS3 stumbled. They wanted to sell bluray but those costs were added to the consumer. That is one of the reasons why Sony lost a portion of their fanbase. <...
DigitalRaptor, I'm not sure if Microsoft could offer a free alternative. The whole system is webbed together to work in unison. That means they need to just drop the fee all-together and do something like Sony has done with Playstation Plus. That is offering a secondary service that shows where the value is coming from, but keep the online multiplayer separated and not have a fee attached. Most people just expect to play online with their friends or make new friends and not be charged for...
People will disagree on anything here.
From the article:
"This trend suggests Xbox 720 sales will be higher than Playstation 4 sales. Moreover, the Xbox 720 is manufactured by an American company. On the other hand, the Playstation 4 is manufactured by a Japanese company. Most Americans prefer buying American made products at the moment, especially with the fiscal cliff looming."
I don't see how relevant that is given the history of gami...
1. Because it's peer to peer we still have games like Halo 4 capped at 16 players.
2. It's not about being able to afford it. The fact is nobody else charges for basic service. Microsoft should offer a free alternative. Most games now have some form of online attached to it. So it's a shame they want consumers to pay for the hardware, then pay for the software, then pay for their internet access and then on top of that pay to unlock the online multiplayer they already purc...
Judging by all the disagrees it seems to me people are just either console gamer slaves or don't know much about PC gaming. The two can and will co-exist so there is no reason to disagree when both have their pros and cons. One is not better than the other because every consumer is different.
The consoles have the marketing and ease of use. The PC's have the flexibility and the technology while not being hampered by corporations running the show.

Since they tend to profit more from software and often sell hardware at a loss which do you think has a greater impact?
There is a hidden community that pirates and they are a small portion. Their reasons for doing it are random. Some try to validate it because they want to try before they buy. Who gave them that right? They did. Some argue it has to do with games being broken so why pay? Again who gave them that right? They did. Some argue they aren't real consumers anyw...
The Wii U can require you to multi-task. How many times have you seen people watch TV while using their smartphone. That is multi-tasking in the sense I'm talking about. I'm also elaborating on the person above who mentioned how even TV's now have internet enabled features.
Some consumers are no longer satisfied with one product only doing one function. That is why game consoles are nothing like they used to be and why they will continue to be center pieces in you...
