I don't get the disagrees. This is like a bunch of people arguing over DVD versus bluray.
I also want to ask why some (not here but we've seen it before) are eager to say that the Xbox 360 holds back the PS3 yet ignore how both are holding back the PC? The differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 are minimal in comparison. They are also minimal in comparison to the Wii versus the Xbox 360. That you saw a real difference. You don't really see much difference betwee...
Lots of great titles. Currently enjoying FTL (Faster Than Light).
If Sony is worried about the used market (Jack Tretton has already gone on record saying he doesn't think it's a good idea), then why don't they adopt their own service so that the money does come back to them and the publishers? Could they use Gaikai as a streaming rental service? Would they offer an exchange program where you can return your games, even digital ones, for credit towards new games?
There needs to be a way for it to work for both parties, the consu...
What if this patent is to block others from doing such things? That would surely make Sony look like the hero in all of this.
kariyanine, all 3 of them still rely a lot on retailers. Right now they seem to have a mutual understanding about pricing which is likely why the digital price is the same as the retail price. Services like Steam get around that by working directly with the publishers and not charging the same royalties. Companies like Sony are in a rather predicament because they need retailers still to sell games and hardware. They also don't want to neglect all the customers out there who don't hav...
"Waiting a couple of months to buy a game isn't going to be the end of the world."
There are many games that don't hold as much value later on when it comes to multiplayer. Lots of games suffer from a dwindling userbase over time which could impact how easy it is to have online matches. I don't mind waiting for games to come down in price but if you look at sale spikes usually the busiest time is during the launch window.
Of course peopl...
"All you have to do is offer up a good service along with a fair price and you'll get that customer loyalty that all corporations pray for."
Easier said than done. Microsoft for example does not currently sell games at launch for their games on demand store. The discount games on SEN are closer to what the prices are on Steam but that is if you have a Plus membership. Nintendo? Who knows but they used to be behind the curve ball by quite a bit before. Haven'...
PC games are not really coded the same way to your hardware. Some games have DRM which limits at times up to 5 installs. So that means you could upgrade or replace your PC up to 5 times. This patent doesn't really go into details about the ability to have the game install on 5 different PS4's.
You're right, thanks for the correction.

As of 2007 Nintendo owns controlling interest. Before that they released games on other platforms including the PS2.
Still, not a lot of new ip's coming from Nintendo.
Pretty funny.
Look at the direction we are headed. EA comes out with online passes and now Sony's own published games are too. The Wii U comes out and you cannot import the Gamepad and connect it with a Wii U from a different region. Wii U owners must also provide personal information and contact Nintendo directly if their system breaks and they want to transfer content. Microsoft had a special tool to upgrade your Xbox 360 and transfer content.
Meanwhile you have companies like Steam ...
GribbleGrunger;
"When has Sony expressed their 'grudge' against the second hand market? That's quite the emotive word. This is just fanciful thinking to lay the foundations for this premature and questionable assumption. I DO recall developers talking about it extensively in the past and I do recall both MS and Sony offering them an olive branch by allowing online passes. "
Isn't it just Sony who now has online passes for their own games? Not...
Is Halo for Kinect? How about Forza and Gears of War? Just because they made a game like Fable: The Journey doesn't mean they are about to totally disband existing franchises and be Kinect only. Fable: The Journey was a side project. Much like Uncharted: Fight For Fortune, Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault and even Civilization: Revolution was created for console gamers in mind.
I too wouldn't want Microsoft to own them, but only because that would mean less ava...
They won't block used games, they will just sell more games digitally which is even better for them.
From the article:
"The company's first party software sales represent less than 10 percent of overall sales on its consoles, and it is unlikely that blocking used games would result in a lift of more than 10 percent in new game sales. That means that Sony's sales would rise only marginally if the PS4 blocked used games."
So why wo...
From the article:
"Not only did he forget Nintendo released Three new IPs in The Last Story, Xenoblade, and Pandora’s Tower for core gamer’s, he doesn’t understand Sony and Microsoft both release vast amounts of sequels as well."
Ok lets discuss those 3 games.
1. The Last Story was made by Mistwalker and was published by Nintendo. Kind of the same scenario as Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360.
2. Xenoblade: Chronicles was made by...
You sound like the marketing guru's from Sony who also called it the Xbox 1.5.
I wasn't comparing the Xbox 360 to the PS2, I was comparing the pricing model of the original Xbox to that of the PS2. They cost the same to the consumer but the Xbox had a significant edge when it came to the technical differences and the options included.
So now we flip forward to the current generation where the Xbox 360 came out before the PS3 much like how the PS2 came...
The original Xbox had a hard drive, a built in ethernet adapter, support for 4 controllers built in, able to do true digital sound. Yet it cost the consumer the same price as a PS2. So don't blame consumers who didn't want the price inflated due to Sony's commitment to want bluray to become the new format because they had other divisions like TV's to sell.
In the end it was the exclusives that paid off for bluray, however the bulk of the PS3 library didn't...
Oh please Raoh, anyone who spends any time here knows Microsoft is not the most liked company. The Xbox 360 did get slammed for RRoD, they did get slammed for not having a hard drive in every system, they still get slammed for Live fees, they did get slammed for not including wi-fi and how expensive the adapter was, they did get slammed about hard drive prices much like the memory cards now for Vita, they do get slammed for lack of exclusives.
Look around, there are tons of n...
You have 3 basic categories for potential consumers.
1. Those that will buy it no matter what. They are the ones likely to buy the system on day one. So to them it doesn't matter what Sony does. They are loyal and will fight tooth and nail making sure they get their recognition and paint the most positive light their way.
2. The diplomatic. One who waits to see what will be offered and one who is cautiously optimistic. They take a bit more convincing but ...
Me too. Larry Hyrb's comment about "it's on" could be a ploy to force Sony's hand. The Wii U is already out and if Microsoft plans to unveil the new Xbox that could hurt Sony if they don't show anything on the PS4. Especially if the new Xbox is far along in development and comes out this year.
Sony already said they don't want to allow Microsoft a year headstart again. They also need to give Vita a lot of attention this year, so that puts Sony is...
