Valve has enough support to show that being a digital platform can exists and be very profitable. We will see on the PS4 all games being available in digital form and a progression of the digital content taking over. Even now some games can only be bought through the Playstation store.
The PSP Go was a poorly executed system trying to go this route. With Gaikai Sony can leverage gamers more than ever to go digital.
fei-hung,
"People will complain whether it innovates or not. They will only see what they wish to see."
Actually what some people want is something that excites gamers besides the same gameplay mechanics with better graphics. The Share button and screenshots during gameplay is one thing we have already seen on the PC but it's nice to see consoles doing a much better job of it now.
We see so many shooter games now that it's h...
Not an attack but a statement. A statement that says they want to be the platform to go to for all your gaming needs.
Nobody here or anywhere else knows what impact the PS4 will have. I like what I have seen so far but that doesn't mean much 2, 3 years from now and how much of an attack it will have on the competition.
Looks clean and accessible. The main thing is it to be quick and easy to use.
Of course. Why shouldn't we be able to play games like Journey on the PS4? You can buy a brand new PC and have games you bought off of Steam years ago that can play. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo need to get their act together. Nobody should have to re-buy everything each time they buy new hardware. You don't do it with movies or music so why do console makers think it's ok?
I know earlier models of the PS3 had a dual lens so perhaps I was mistaken about needing 2 lenses to play DVD and Bluray. Not sure why they wouldn't support CD then. Maybe they feel its no longer needed?
CD's use a red laser while bluray of course uses blue. This is probably another cost saving measure if true.
DragonKnight,
Whatever EA does on the next Xbox they will do the same on the PS4. Perhaps EA does not want to release disc based games anymore? I know Sega is going to go that route.
I have to agree with some of the other comments, this exclusive content often times doesn't help gamers. It is just a tool to block gamers to help hardware sales. It's not like Microsoft started all of this, we seen it on the PS2 and Rockstar making GTA exclusive on the c...
Some are concerns and some are just looking for attention. The concerns are of course new ip's but Sony isn't going to show everything now. The other concern might be what the online might be and if there is a cost.
I really don't get all the commotion about why they didn't show the actual system. To me that was a non-issue since they already said the specs and showed the controller which is what we will be using.
I also don't really see a...
"whats forcing us to buy EA products?"
Nothing but when you create a monopoly by signing exclusive deals it does take away the competition does it not? How many PGA games do we see? How about NASCAR, NHL or NFL?
That to me is not a healthy industry because it will lead to stagnation. Just imagine if only Nintendo had a gaming console or only Sony or just Microsoft? No matter who you think does a better job they actually do better when there is comp...
Well the nightmare will happen when all games are digital and the consumer is left with hardly any option than to pay what they want to charge. That is the goal they would love to be at.
We are already heading in that direction on consoles. All games on the PS4 for example can be bought through the online store. Soon more and more games will only be there to buy. The large AAA titles will be the last to be 100% digital because for those games they want to attract as many peop...
Aren't EA games already $70 or more with all the DLC they tack on that could have been included?
Let's hope they do have a stellar lineup because if they don't the media will be all over them. They need to have a constant flow as seen by the sparse support Vita is getting after it too have a strong start.
Makes no sense to wait until 2014. Microsoft doesn't need to match specs as long as they provide a good platform with great content. So what if the next Xbox isn't quite as powerful? The forums will always be a place for arguments and favoritisms and of course brand loyalty. Where people will focus on any weak point they can. All the arguments between the PS3 and Xbox 360 and how they matched technically didn't really matter much in the end now did it?
Stupid numbers? We have seen many games drop below 30fps this generation and if you didn't notice that then I don't know what to say. Why do you think Polyphony Digital strives for 60fps? Now go play Pole Position and then plug in GT5 and tell me which one you think is smoother and more enjoyable due to the sense of speed and smoothness one does over the other?
I don't think developers should be pushing games mostly for the sake of how pretty it looks. I would rat...
Bluray isn't why those games could only be made. Gran Turismo could have still came out. In fact the PC shows that because the PC has games that can do what Gran Turismo 5 did and more. Metal Gear Solid could have been on the Xbox 360 as well, it just wouldn't have been on one DVD. MGS4 was already broken up into parts and PS3 owners like myself were forced to partially install the game and have long loading times between those chapters.
So if Bluray is the magical we...
"Why do people keep bringing the PC up in a console discussion. It's like the same old crap everytime, we're talking about consoles and a console game not anything to do with PCs so please don't try and spin it."
So to you the PC gaming is irrelevant even though we see games like Skyrim on both? Should we not talk about master tapes for audio either and how artists record their music because you only care about iTunes? I find it baffling you're only ...
What I find interesting is how some people want them all to do the same thing, why? Why should Nintendo do what Sony is doing? If people like what Sony is doing then they should be happy but it seems they are not happy. Do we really need 3 companies going after the same audience?
Microsoft used to be pigeonholed into being a shooter console. Now many view them as a Kinect only platform without any regard that they are branching out their audience. Then you have Sony whose who...
"What are Microsoft's First-Party Studios Up To?"
Hopefully new ip's and not making different soles for the bottom of the shoes for our Avatars. A new Halo Wars would be cool, I like the last one but I want to see a lot of focus on new ip's that are hardcore games.
Can you carry over all your Wii purchases over to the Wii U? I thought I read there was a premium charged.
I am not talking about just the hardware being capable of playing older games, but also all the content we buy online and being able to carry that with us. Our accounts should stay intact when we upgrade to new hardware.
