but if they are dumping all this money into a PS3 exclusive, they better be prepared to lose it. I don't think PS3 is going to take off enough to make it worth investing over $21 million.
of Wii buyers bought an additional game?? I would have thought more than that would have at least bought Zelda. Call of Duty 3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and believe it or not, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy all looked like winners to me. HD-DVD has an edge over Blu-Ray, anyway. I saw a comparison of three movies in both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats, and the HD-DVD versions came out on top in all three comparisons. HD-DVD is also currently outselling Blu-Ray by a wide margin. I don't believe that PS3 is going to influence the market for Hi-Def movies like Sony thinks it will. In the end it's going to end up on the shelf alongside Betamax, Mini-Disc and UMD.

That MS is going to announce their price cuts around the time of the European PS3 launch. I think they should do separate price cuts, though. Cut the Core price on the European Wii launch day and then the Premium price on European PS3 launch day. They will give both Sony and Nintendo fits and make it very hard for them to get a foothold over there. how the author seems to think that people will be getting screwed when they got caught doing something they shouldn't have been doing in the first place. Movies, music and games have region coding on them for a reason. You are violating someone elses distribution rights if you are downloading content from Asia or Europe on your N. American 360.
can Sony cut their prices and how soon?? Don't forget that if SOny does do a price cut, MS and Nintendo will likely already have done 1 or 2 and be well positioned for another. Sony is not going to be able to get their price competitive with the others. This generation of consoles will be obsolete before you see a $200 PS3.

It seems to be a common problem among the store demo units, that they break quickly, and that is in spite of the PS3 having a cooling fan 6 inches across blowing on a massive heatpipe inside. It doesn't bode well for the units sold to customers if the store demo units, which have to be a bit hardier because of constant use and abuse in a retail environment, are burning up at the rate that they are.

I have a device call OSCaR (Optical SCanning and Recognition) for my 25 year old Atari 800 that does this. It even comes with a book of programs that can be scanned into the computer using a wand with a LED at the end. I should buy the patent and then see if this guy makes any money off of his "invention" and then sue him.

The lower starting price of the Wii, has to be a matter of concern for both Sony and Microsoft. They are going to grab a lot of sales, but the 360 core is currently only $50 higher than Wii and it is a much more powerful system, even without the hard drive or the XBox Live goodies. Like Sony, though, Nintendo's supply chain currently stretches all the way back to Japan. A disruption in production or delivery now would be devastating for either of them. Has already cut costs 40% since launch day and Nintendo is making a profit on each Wii sold. Both are in a much better position to reach the price points that drive additional sales. The components in the PS3 are just too expensive for Sony to contemplate any price cuts for at least 18 months. They made a small concession on price in Japan, but only after a meeting with several of their major developers who expressed concerns about there not being enough consoles on the ground for their games...
