With PS3 costing Sony $840 each to make, an announcement that MS has lowered production costs by 40% must really hurt. MS has the ability now to destroy Sony's market share by dropping retail prices even further.
With downloadable firmware revisions these days?? I don't like it on PSP and I definitely don't like it on consoles. To make things worse, they won't even let you refuse to download a firmware revision, so if your machine turns into a brick, you have to send it back for exchange?? I'd rather they allowed users to download revisions voluntarily so they can wait until after all the bugs have been worked out.
Ebay prices seem to be in a downward spiral with many units ending at $1000 or less now instead of the $3500 or more they were at in the days following launch. I guess a lot of people don't like the news they are reading online about the launch and either waiting to make a purchase or keeping their bids low.
I read somewhere else today that Sony only came through with 150-200k for launch day and probably closer to the low end of that estimate than the high.
but will anybody be waiting to buy them??
They should have taken 1080i into consideration long before now. I seriously doubt very many people who spent thousands for a 1080i tv in the last few years are prepared to buy a 720p or 1080p television now just so they can play a PS3 in 720p mode. Yet another nail in the PS3 coffin.
I was one of the ones who waited for PS2 to come out to buy a console during that generation, but I also bought a DC when the price point reached 99.99. It seems to me, that when SEGA designed this thing, they were clearly trying to build a better N64. The look and feel of many of the games, particularly games like Evolution The World of Sacred Device, left me feeling I was playing a Mario or Zelda title with a combat element similar to Final Fantasy thrown in. Sega did the same thing as Nint...
The reason people played games like Evergrace and Summoner on PS2 was because at the time there were no better RPG's available, so they took what they could get.
that Sony is losing all their 'exclusives'?? Sony volunteered to make their online service available for free. Nobody twisted their arm. If they weren't prepared for the burden of running a free online service, they should have made it subscription only. I can see even more devs jumping ship for Microsoft and Nintendo over this.
Nintendo has always marketed their games and systems to 6 year olds. It is time for Nintendo to wake up and realize that the average 6 year old does not have much disposable income and depending on parents to buy games for their kids is a risky strategy. They need to market themselves to a more mature audience with more money to spend on games. The glory days of Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Metroid and Pokemon are over. They need to develop less cutesy games and start making titles that ...
Nintendo has a history of bettering their last console, but not worrying much about what the competition is doing. This is a huge, mistake, I think and if Nintendo isn't careful, it could be their ultimate downfall. There is no doubt in my mind that Wii is more powerful than Gamecube just as Gamecube was more powerful than N64, but Sony and Microsoft are putting out 900 pound gorillas while Nintendo tries fighting them off with Bubbles the chimp. Sony's foul ups with PS3 will probably allow Ni...
for Sony. Both MS and Nintendo will ample stock on hand for Christmas while Sony struggles to even get the number of promised launch units together. They were supposed to have 400,000 on launch day but reports are saying that they had probably a bit over 150,000 available and Wii weighed in around 350,000-450,000. With all the problems Sony is having the last few years, the last thing they need right now is a screwed up Christmas season for PS3. I will definitely be getting an XBox 360 Core, ...

Someone making a sensible prediction, but I won't discount the Wii's chances of giving MS a run for the money.
The article isn't there anymore, but not worth signing up for phone service to get a cheap 360. Like when people were giving away "free" PCs if you signed up for their insanely expensive dial up service. You basically got a crap PC using 2 year old technology and paid 24.95- 29.95 per month for 56k service for 2 years. Not really a good deal.
The lifecycle of a console is only 5-6 years anyway. If it takes that long for Sony to achieve dominance with the PS3, then it means that there is going to be a fierce sales battle ahead for SOny, MS and Nintendo, and I don't see that happening at all. PS3 is way too expensive and has too much junk that people won't use right away, if ever. The sales battle is not going to be that close. Wii and 360 Core are probably going to be the ones that battle it out the hardest for the top spot followe...
It is just like with the PSP. Every time you connect to the internet or buy a new game, Sony will check what ROM version you have and force you to update it before you can play. This effectively locks out the possibility of using unlicensed games and software on the PS3 and may even prevent mod chips from working.
is that they always strive to make their current console better than their last, but unfortunately, the bar set by the Gamecube is too low. Being better than Gamecube isn't saying much. They need to start setting their sights higher than merely beating their last machine's capabilities if they ever want to have the best system again.
That doesn't really surprise me. A similar situation existed when PS2 launched in Japan. The thing then was that the PS2 actually cost less than many popular DVD players, so a lot of people picked up a PS2 strictly for use as a DVD player. It wouldn't surprise me if many people bought them to play Blu Ray movies this time around.
Everyone knows console makers lose money on the hardware and make it up in game sales. If the people buying the consoles aren't buying games to go with them, then Sony is losing even more money. If it is the ebay effect at work, it is even worse, because it delays the buying of the games as it takes 1-10 days for an ebay auction to run, plus a few more for shipping, so Sony is losing a critical 2 weeks of game sales because the consoles haven't arrived at their final destinations yet. The bea...
