On topic, I guess I'm the only one who's actually getting more excited about RE5. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the fourth one, and Capcom seems to have included some real fan service in this game.
Settle down, friend. The title is utter flamebait and the article itself is damage control from MTV's parent company and one of its, er, partners. The guy said it himself--MTV doesn't even do game reviews. This is a special occasion for many reasons I won't name here. If you don't want to see more garbage like this, don't click the link.
I second your skepticism and raise you a "Who the hell are these guys?" Everything I've read from them so far amounts to whiny complaints about the current gaming industry. Today alone they've griped about Bayonetta, FFXIII, and RE5. Note to Crispygamer: Hating everything people are excited about doesn't make you edgy or smart. People will quit reading after awhile.

Back on topic, LBP just keeps getting better. Finally shelled out for the MGS4 level pack today. Love it.
I hope that in the year+ before this reaches the West, Square shores up that framerate. When I watched the vid online, I could blame my connection, but when I'm watching it on my TV, there's just no getting around it. The battle scenes look like they're running at about 20fps. Max. Agreed. There's no reason for this series of *ahem* articles to have gone on for so long. For example, Issue 17 (this one) can be summed up in a single sentence: "We don't like the anti-aliasing on the PS3." Fair enough. Now be quiet already.
I don't know why people hate FFXII all of a sudden. It's not my favorite in the series, but I've still beaten it three times. I didn't click the disagree for your comment, but I do in fact disagree. This looks nothing like twelve. The scenes shown reek of "battle screen" fights rather than in-world. Once we see some actual transition from roaming the game world and battles we'll know better.

Dude, why do you (or anyone) NEED an excuse? KZ2 was meant to be a graphical showpiece for the PS3, and it is. RE5 was meant to cash in on the amazing success of RE4, and it will. KZ2 SHOULD look better than RE5 or anything else that has come out before. That's a big part of the game's identity.
So the PS3 has some better looking-games than the 360. So effing what? It's a newer, more expensive console...

This is wildly off topic, but RE5 is set in Africa. Haiti shares an island with the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean.
Back on topic, you hit the nail on the head otherwise. Low-res shots from both games don't do any favors for anyone. But I'd even go a step further than you and say that if you really want to compare (without having TVs running the games side-by-side) you'd have to put up HD direct-feed video to see the games in motion.

I've also seen well-animated 3D models try and fail to create drama. Writing goes a long way toward forgiving lousy or outdated graphics. I'm still impressed with the emotion and grandeur in the opera scene from FFVI on the SNES.
I'll climb onto the horse as well, seconding the MGS series, the Half-Life series, and Bioshock as more recent examples of good writing. As someone fortunate enough to own both SotC and Ico, I'm a little confused about the claims that those games have good writing; I love those games to death, but the story's are purposely sparse, and there's almost no dialogue. But forget those classics. To my way of thinking, Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted had better writing and pacing than GTAIV.

I haven't gone to Linux, but after the better part of a year struggling with Vista on two high-end laptops (mine and my wife's), we have both gone back to XP and the difference is staggering. PS2 emulation isn't exactly "years away." The PCSX2 team have got a very, very good emulator for PC running right now, and if you have a PS2 already, you can legally dump its bios into your PC and use it to play most PS2 games. I have personally played FFX and FFXII from start to finish on my laptop (again, legally since I own retail versions of both games and a PS2). I heard FFXIII is due in US/Europe in April '10 at the earliest, but they're shooting for an '09 release in Japan. GOW III might also be 2010, but there's no harm in hoping, right? :)
