Yeah, I clicked this before I saw who had reviewed it. Just about to click "Back" in 3...2...
@heroprotagonist:
You misspelled "genius."
Well, then, Wada, stop trying to turn SE into Activision. Give Nomura, Kitase, etc. free rein to make awesome Japanese games.
I've just cleared Chapter 6--about halfway through--and it's FANTASTIC. I can really tell they used Castlevania IV as their model. It manages to be tough without being cheap...I can't say enough good things about it at this point.
I'll totally read your review-reviews, at least until you go mainstream and sell out.
As a gamer and a longtime FF fan, I thought XIII was outstanding. I loved every minute of it. Story, battle system, characters, graphics, music--everything. I would gladly shell out for a sequel or DLC.
"I'd have missed out on a load of amazing games if I had listened to reviews."
I would have missed out on Nier, which was surprisingly awesome.
Edit: Ironically, it was a review on RPGFan (a comparatively small site) that got me interested in that game.
"if I pay money for a machine, i consider it mine. And I do the F what i want with it."
For example, you could open up your PS3 and cook bacon on the heatsink, or throw it off the roof of your house to see what it sounds like when it hits the ground, or just use it to play games. Those are your rights.
It is Sony's right to ban you from PSN if they detect pirated software. Everybody has rights! What a great country.
Ultimate pipe dream: PS2 Final Fantasy Collection. FFX International, FFX-2 Internation + Final Mission, FFXII International Zodiac Job System. With Trophies. Lawd, yes!
"It takes time to adapt to the different control mechanics, visuals, sure even the distance from screen at which you play at with most consoles."
^^This. I played PC shooters for years, have had a console since PS2, and I STILL totally suck at console FPS games. It's a completely different world.
Yeah, I wondered how deep people would have to dig to complain about this game. Now we know.
Okay, GreenRing, you finally made me laugh. Have a bubble.
The benchmark can't be right. My laptop scored 684 (min. requirement is 1500) and without breaking any NDAs I might or might not be under *ahem* I am fairly confident that my laptop could run the game at a playable rate.
My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4Ghz
4GB RAM
GeForce 8600M
Windows 7 Pro
So don't give up hope!
Inciteful AND insightful. N4G pun WIN! :)
"JESUS CHRIST!!!
I should have used a sarcasm tag!!!"
lol I thought the same thing before I even read your second comment.
If FFXIII was such an overhyped mess that we should just forget it ever existed, why do we still see articles about it every single day?
I'll tell you why--because it has fans who can't help but refute flamebait articles bashing it. Just like Halo, just like MW2, just like Gears, Uncharted, Alan Wake...the list goes on.
It was my first HP game AND my first Lego game. Worth every dime. I'm a huge fan of the books (never saw the movies), and it's obvious the developers were too. Lots of funny bits and nods for people who know the stories well.
@above
"very broken" is a stretch, but it does have its share of glitches. My, yes. Still I pulled off the Plat trophy just last night. It is possible, folks.
@Mihael-Keehl and Reibooi
I've said it before here, but I thought FFXIII was great. I played it for 94 hours, got my Plat, and never got bored. I even bought the 4-disc soundtrack to listen to while I do my writing and grading.
The funniest thing is now people are saying how it can't hold a candle to the super-awesomeness of XII (which I also loved), even though when XII came out everyone hated IT because it was different. I think if FFXIII wasn't...
Gives hope to the Indie scene. The only PSN games I like better are Wipeout HD and Fl0wer (also an Indie title). Bravo to Hello Games.
Mild homophobia in your comment aside, I have to agree that people are waaaaay too touchy about nudity/sexuality in games. All hail zipper tech that allows realistic disembowelment, but it's "unnecessary" to show a woman's nipple?
Someday I would like to pinpoint the exact moment in the history of western cultures when morality got separated from common sense.
