Demo was fun, although the combat seems very easy (even on hard), especially after playing Castlevania. Game is looking slick, I just hope it's not too short.
Yes, Alan Wake sold poorly because 360 owners are brainless. It clearly had nothing to do with releasing at the same time as RDR...

Dragon Age was a tradeoff. Slightly higher res textures, but lower frame rate and a few missing effects (such as water filters). Only the PC version really came out ahead.
I'm really enjoying the game, but right now I'd probably give it an 8/10.
The constant invisible walls and inconsistent camera do drag it down a bit. Still an awesome game, but I almost wish it got pushed back, because if it just had that little extra layer of polish, this could have been a GOTY contender.
Some great endings there. I loved the entire top 5, and am glad to see classics like NES Ninja Gaiden represented as well (actually getting to that ending was hard as balls!).
But it's "from now until the end of Q1 2011", otherwise I would totally put Elder Scrolls V at the top of the list...

@MexicanAppleThief: beat me by a second :) And this vid is actually pretty awesome. Somehow Niko's voice makes parkour better.
Yeah, I can't wait for this game. It really looks like the creators took care to capture what the original got right.
Yeah, it would have been nice for some actual new info.
Despite my dislike of the over-use of mutants in open-world games (and the fact that those mutants are usually an excuse to create brainless, run-straight-at-you AI), Infamous 2 is still looking fun. Cautiously optimistic.
Agreed. Past Halo games after CE tended to fall into the "trying too hard" story mold. Reach was actually a bit understated by comparison, which I felt gave the narrative more weight. The characters weren't as over-acted.
Eh, people are complaining about Enix, but the Dragon Quest games have actually been one of the few bright spots in SE's recent history.
It's not the merger that's to blame for their downfall, it's an overall design philosophy that has abandoned what they were best at (creating traditional, turn-based RPGs with towns and dungeons that were actually worth exploring).
@AtatakaiSamurai: I assume it will be "compartmentalized" open-world, like Borderlands, Fable or FFXII. Not seamless open-world like Fallout 3.
The canyons will form choke points that give you a loading zone to access the next area, etc.
Either that or the world will go through some cataclysmic change halfway through the story, effectively creating multiple "worlds" for each disk.
When Crysis 2 went linear instead of open-world, I did lose some interest. I'm honestly more interested in seeing what happens with Far Cry 3 at this point.
That said, it could still be a good game, I'm just skeptical about it being a stellar one. Deus Ex 3 is my most anticipated for 2011 at this point, with Rage somewhere in the top 5.
My copy is in the mail. At worst, I can always eBay it for $5 less if I don't end up wanting to replay.
I agree *sometimes*.
It really depends on the game. For instance, we all know Fallout: New Vegas will get the inevitable "GOTY edition" a year later, but if the initial game still provides 80+ hours of content, are we really getting screwed? I don't think so.
Most games these days are 6-10 hour affairs. If an RPG provides a ton more content and value for people that enjoy the single-player experience, then it's worth the price of admissi...
It's good to know that Sony isn't aiming for a holliday lull.
Motion controls shoudln't be "tacked on".
The best games have elements like unique input methods worked into their design from the beginning, and if that's not part of the vision for NT's games, then there's no reason for them to worry about it.
I really don't care. If there ever comes a day when whether or not I buy a game is determined by its compatibility with Move or Kinect, I will turn in my gamer card.
"It doesn't leverage the series' storied history"
Seriously? So being a fresh reboot is a mark against a game now, even when said game clearly hammers home the point pre-release over and over?
Some people don't seem to remember that SotN also turned the "legacy" on its head back when it came out...
I'm waiting for Silent Hill Versus VIII
I was fairly underwhelmed by the demo. Like the original, it captured the art well, but the actual combat felt shallow.
