According to the article, they get the whole team involved with contributing ideas, then test and iterate on every idea they like, and aren't afraid to toss one if it doesn't work out as well in-game as it did on paper.
Also, they're Valve - Thanks to Steam, they have enough money that they can make their own deadlines and spend as much time testing and iterating as they please. That's a luxury that very few studios have.
So basically, it&...
Definitely a MUCH better written review than IGN's.
You can tell Jim played the game seriously. It's informative, and both his praise and his criticisms come off as honest.
I approve of all these ideas, espcially a new MediEvil game.
The problem is that the only way they can keep up this yearly schedule is by reusing the same assets and scaling down the games.
We're not going to get another sequel like AC2 with 5 new cities, all new architecture, new character animations, etc., if they keep this up. You can't create that much content in a single year.
Brotherhood was a decent game, but it largely used recycled assets. Some of us would rather Ubi take their time and create some...
The filter is *optional*.
There will still be a mode with upscaled sprites for those who hate the smoothed-over look, so this isn't really any big deal.
You'd have to sit down some cat and lizard people for Elder Scrolls :)
Honestly though, Team Bondi has said that the captured animations take up a lot of file space (hence the 3 DVDs for the 360 version), so I doubt it would be practical for a huge game with 1,000s of NPCs like TES. Besides the time it would take to capture all the dialogue, you'd end up with a game that would need like 5 blu-ray disks....
Yeah, this game looks awesome, but "one of the few multi-platforms games..." Seriously?
So I take it you didn't like Portal 2 or Dead Space 2, etc? Not excited about LA Noire, Arkham City, Battlefield 3 or Skyrim?
The need to preface your excitement with some fanboy statement about how multi-platform games are like second-class citizens and less deserving of your anticipation is just plain ridiculous with so many awesome titles coming out.
They even gave MK a 6.
Sure it's all opinion, and some games deserve low scores, but trashing this many titles just makes it look like they're trying too hard.
Now this is some awesome news!
Hey Sega, how about Dragon Force next? Time to put that Saturn back catalog to use!
I loved the art style, but not so much the complete lack of death. When you can leave the controller alone for 1/2 an hour without even pausing the game on the final boss and suffer no consequences, it effectively destroys any sense of accomplishment.
The same goes for the obvious level design and feature of Eleka pointing out the way forward. A big part of what made the older games great was the sense of discovery you got from simply figuring out how to get where you neede...
I'm fine with this. Better that Bioware takes their time to make the game awesome than tries to rush things out *coughdragonage2cough*
Not likely to happen in '11, given both the crowded market and the fact that Ubi has got their own new Ghost Recon title to promote as well.
@Downtown boogey
Pretty sure he means:
"....people who play team-based FPS games *as if* they're playing CoD." - Meaning people who ignore team tactics and try to one-man-army their way through matches.
I enjoyed Far Cry 2 quite a lot. Loved the atmosphere and freedom with which you could take on encounters.
That said, those guard posts respawned *way* too fast. They should have at least an in-game day pass before repopulating them.
They also need to fix the psychic enemies. Firing a silenced weapon while hiding in the grass, it should take at least 2 shots to give away your position, especially when you are 100 yards away...
If you care about the plot and characters at all, then definitely play AC2 before you play Brotherhood.
I loved Oblivion (and Morrowind, Fallout 3, etc.), but I agree that it would be nice if Bethesda had some competition.
As it stands, they're pretty much the only developer making 1st-person, open-world fantasy RPGs.
I'd say the graphics were pretty cutting edge if you had a PC capable of playing it maxed out. Even on 360 the game looked quite nice.
The main issue was the spotty shooting and AI, but like other FPS hybrid games (Deus Ex comes to mind), even that didn't mar the game too much thanks to the breadth of the gameplay. Playing full stealth with the throwing knives was awesome.
My main hope for the sequel is for more stealth vs human AIs. Shooting the ...
Glad to see Thief 4 included in the list. With so few real stealth games this gen, I can't wait to hear more about Garrett's next outing.
Yeah, these are actually making me less interested in the game.
Just give us a real reveal and ease the fears that this will be reusing the same assets from past games. New era. New cities. New protagonist.
Obviously it's Alan Wake Wars!
