It's hell to always keep links ready to disqualify whatever misinformation is spread on these fora.

But nAo (developer of Heavenly Sword) has confirmed on the B3D forum that the RSX can use both memory banks for textures, which is the most obvious wild claim of this article (GotFrag DPAD quote):

"..because the PS3, due to split memory pools containing 256MB worth of GDDR3 memory and 256MB worth of XDR memory can at best dedicate 256MB worth of ram to textures at any...

But just glancing at that last IVvidya article makes it obvious that the author has no clue. He calls the SPU's of Cell for DSP's, probably citing MS sources as that was how they've categorized them in multiple interviews, when in fact they are not.

In fact it seems like the entire article is a writeof of earlier MS half truths.

But the writer obviously got a lot of stuff wrong that even the most basic knowledge would dispell as untrue.

1. 256MB graphics memory for textures at any given moment.
Nope... 512MB but split in two banks -- it is entirely possible to use textures in both banks at once as both banks are connected to the RSX with very fast busses (approx. 23GB/s for each).

2. The SPU's can't be used for AI.
Ofcourse they can, but not effectively using traditional me...

Your taste in games is somewhat different from mine, and I respect that.

But I do believe you've made a slight mistake with NBA'07 -- afaik Sony would never develop a game for the X360... Make that one a Sony exclusive as well.

MS parting with Nvidia... You are aware that the fastest graphics chipset on market today is from Nvidia, right?

You want us to pad MS' back for not including full or even half backwards compatibility on the X360 even though they promised us backwards compatibiliy? Why?

And finally you want us to be angry on Sony for including a lot of extra functionality in an almost silent and to some atleast pleasant looking box that fits right in with our livingroom equipment...

Sony are expecting group profits of 80 billion yen or US$673 million for the fiscal year through March 2007.

They are making loads of money, even though they've had a really tough year with losses in their PS division (because of PS3 R&D) and hefty battery recalls. Read more at:

Which explains why you only see games on the store shelves (atleast for now) and not productivity applications.

It has just a couple of added perks like mediafunctionality, webbrowser and the possibility to install a complete OS if so desired. But games are its main priority and where the PS3 excels.

That the X360 runs on a modified Win2000 kernel, right?

That Linux is about as popular as a webserver platform as Windows making it a prime target for hackers and virus-coders.

Still the number of Win2000 viruses, trojans and worms are leagues beyond what are in the wild for Linux.

I'd say because of this (in a totally unsubstantiated and unscientific way -- just like you) that an exploit for X360 is far more likely than for the PS3.

Test it on as many available platforms as possible before release, including the PS3 obviously.

It sorta sound like you believe that the X360 delivers better backwards compatibility compared to the PS3?

Are you serious?

Even with these argueably annoying hitches, the PS3 will still be backwards compatible with quite a bit more than 7,000 games -- compare that to the X360 launch backward compatibility of 200 games and some of them almost unplayable (like Fable). Yeah there were a few with graphical improvements (like Halo), but 200 games??? Now they are up t...

Your TV will probably do a better job at upscaling movies compared to what i.e. the X360 or PS3 would do.

Regarding games there would certainly have been a major improvement... Guess we'll have to hope for an OS update for that, though it is not likely.

Well... Somebody must be buying them to keep them and they must be pretty desperate to get them, or else they would certainly be a hard sell on eBay... So what exactly was your point again?

You seem a bit misinformed or twisting the truth somewhat... These are undeniable facts:

The PS3 was the first console to enable native 1080p resolutions for developers.

The PS3 was the first console to showcase native 1080p games.

The PS3 will be the first console with native 1080p games readily available to consumers.

The PS3 was the first "next-gen" console to showcase EyeToy like features at a consumer event.

The PS3 will in...

MS takes a stab in their initial pressrelease, and Sony responds.

And their argument is very valid. If you own a X360 core, you can't even save your games... What kind of market segmentation is that? Imagine coming home with your new expensive console and experience that?

Now you can't use their online moviestore either...
