I believe Sony would happily accept a game like that (infact I believe multiplatform online games are already in the works -- hence the middleware deal with XFire), but MS would probably fight with every bone in its corporate corpus to stop a direct free competitor for using its online network or allow access to a non-XBL gameserver from their platform.
Maybe when Vista ships... maybe... nahhh...
A case in point is his "but soccer is only on 360 for the coming 12 months."
X360 has PES exclusive on next-gen (not all consoles -- there is a PS2 version which incidently is compatible with the PS3) for THIS year only. Not 12 months. When PS3 is launched in Europe by march next year, Konami will be free to publish PES for Europe on the PS3, and it is already in development.
FIFA is an exclusive for another 10 months from now.
But Sony has actua...
That GoW is pretty standard gameplay and the Bioshock trailer isn't actually gameplay which might dissapoint a few people.
He also did emphasize that COD3 will be the game to look out for, and during that exact sentence of exiting games for X360 they showed a clip of Need for Speed Carbon -- both games are coming for PS3 as well. They even showed clips of Virtua Tennis 3 several times, which as you know is supposed to be in hires and with better graphics on PS3.
...
as the PS3 has the more PC-like graphic "card" of the two consoles (although highly optimized for working in conjunction with the Cell processor).
Your subjective impression may be more because of a different approach by the developers or your own biased oppinion reflecting on your judgements.
--- sorry ---
--- sorry --- triplepost
First of all:
"... then the Sony way 40 players (do you even notice anymore how much is happening on screen?) and the game dies of lag because it can't cope..."
Unfounded and wrong accusation. At TGS just a month ago Resistance was played with 40 players online over the Playstation Network. Half were at the TGS while the other half were gametesters in the US halfway around the globe. No lag were reported by any media or attendee.
"... especially...
We might even be able to use our cellular as a remote as well... Maybe through a small thirdparty software we download to our phones.
How come several crossplatform games so far look better on the PS3 AND in 1080p, while not a single current preview states a X360 version of a crossplatform game to look the better?
It will be atleast another year, before we can decide if the X360 or the Cell/RSX combination is the better for graphics.
"1- blur-ray has no advantage for the serious gamer"
Ofcourse it does... room for more content... especially coupled with standard harddrives for caching.
"2- 360 has the best 3rd party support this generation"
Where did that come from? I don't want to go into detail, but just sumarize by saying most X360 third-party developers have PS3 titles as well, while X360 has next to no support from Japanese third-party developers (I know the big on...
Both PS3 systems will have one HDMI connection.
The PS3 accepts up to seven simultaneous wireless controllers -- NBA 07 for one supports them for 7 gamers in one match on one PS3.
The X360 supports virtually "free" AA but the PS3/RSX supports AA as well -- it's just not "free".
So far several crossplatform games seem to have a graphical edge on the PS3 (VT3, RR7, FA2, Blazing Angels, FNR3, Marvel Ultimate Alliance) and none, so far, have an...
"Greater manufacturing support
More movie titles
A great distribution vector (PlayStation 3)
Greater storage capacity (making it more useful in the long run)
The same sort of things didn't save Betamax, UMD or Minidisc."
-> Wrong. Actually VHS survived because of better software support (more movietitles) and more hardware manufacturers. The only thing Betamax had going for it was the quality. UMD is a proprietary for...
No piece of electronic equipment should overheat under normal circumstances. It is not in the interest of either the manufacturer or the consumer. When it does happen, it is very unsatisfying to both parties.
On a sidenote, the PS3 has been delayed by 6 months for Japan only (not even close to one year). The presumed "worldwide release" this spring (could be as late as late may) was pure speculation. The only official delay for Europe is 4 months.
The same things could be imagined for XBL as well... In fact features like paid-for chapters has been announced by several developers for both X360 and PS3.
Patches as in error corrections for a price is highly unlikely. But patches as in new gameplay modes and/or extra missions are already available for a price on XBL today. I believe the same will happen for the PS3 network. Will they be more expensive on PS3? We simply don't know. They might, but it would be highly unlikely, as ...
And I know the X360 isn't the only new piece of electronic to have problems. But the X360 did have more problems than what is usual. Actually to such a degree, that MS has publicly acknowledged it and extended waranty.
The PS2 had problems as well. I have both a PS2 from launch and a slimline PS2, and both work flawless for me -- others have different experiences. I have a X360 that works as well (except for it being way more noisy than even my launch-PS2 and annoying sync prob...
and say PS3's are having big overheating problems, is a little crazy as well.
I don't doubt we will hear of overheating PS3's after launch (if nobody else some X360 fanboy will report it), but let's wait 'till after the launch to conclude wether the PS3 has overheating problems of X360 proportions or not.
So this actually indicates they are on schedule for the launch -- although I don't believe we will see many launch games actually utilize Sony's PNP to full extent if at all. Devs seem to be in the dark and partnering with third-parties for online features (i.e. XFire).
But the situation for the second wave of games will probably be very different with full support.
There is no difference between the PS3 network and XBL there. Regarding GT:HD, we don't know the price yet, but it is expected to be a budget game. Still you get two tracks and 30 cars in HD out of the box with the possibility to buy two more tracks and 30 more HD cars in a special pack -- there were 80 cars in the fullpriced PGR3.
You don't need to buy all 700 hundred cars to enjoy the game -- you don't need to buy any more cars at all. Just as you don't need to buy that shini...
At GamesRadar their preview of CoD3 states:
"PlayStation 3 was in full force, looking just as good as the Xbox 360 version at this point."
I haven't read Edge magazine, but it could very well be an older version they've seen and tested, since magazines have long production and distribution times.
So far I have seen three previews online state the PS3 and X360 versions are at this point visually on par.
For now not a single ...
Although EA has spent more time working on their art assets, they've actually only had about 5 months with final dev kits to make their engine work. Ofcourse they can use some of their generic code from before, and ofcourse that frees up more time for the nitty-gritty work on their PS3 graphics engine. But it's only when they get the final dev kits they can really challenge the unproven architecture, and that is what counts for graphical finesse. Hence it is indeed a first gen PS3 game.
