For owners of a recent flatscreen the added benefit of HDMI 1.3 is worthless... And so is the possibility of 1080p...

But I recon Sony want to sell the PS3 for the next 5-8 years, and in less than three most homes will have to invest in either a new TV or settop box because of the transition to all-digital television.

In one-two years time, 1080p will actually be very normal and almost mainstream when people are out buying a new flatscreen. And so will HDMI 1.3 b...

I just thought you made a sensible remark above, and now you speak bs again.

MS has stated several times, that they believe 1080p games will be impossible in this generation -- and so has numerous x360 developers. PGR3 was even LESS than 720p...

Now the list of 1080p LAUNCH games for PS3 grows almost every day, and suddenly the x360 is capable of the same... Well... I hope the X360 developers has found some hidden power in the machine they didn't know of until re...

You simply don't NEED HDMI for todays TVs -- and that goes for the few 1080p as well. The TVs "image-improving" circuits downgrades the signal more than a good quality component cable would, and as such it is much better to have a TV with excellent image enhancers and component, than to have mediocre image enhancers and HDMI.

But lets not forget, that HDMI is a relatively new standard and TVs are improving on a rapid pace. In a few years time, HDMI will probably be pr...

Don't believe anyone telling you otherwise.

However, for a first-gen game, Motorstorm is in my oppinion rather impressive.

Have any 1080p games been release or even announced for the x360? On the contrary MS has stated numerous times that 1080p and 1080i will be impossible for games on this generation.

And what's up with comparing with the premium PS3... The x360 "Premium" and HD-DVD will cost you atleast $575 -- that is atleast$75 more than a similar specced PS3 "Core" -- and then you will have to pay for online gameplay and lots of batteries for your controllers... Sounds like...

They specifically mention the game by that name in the position requirements. And they do mention a bit of tech in the new PS3 engine which sounds interesting in a vague sort of way.

They've probably just started to man up the project after the initial design phase. And for big projects they would need more personel in all departments.

FCC has approved a preproduction finished PS3 just last week. The tested PS3 was manufactured/assembled in august. It is logical that Sony won't start massproduction of the PS3 before they've got everything working, approved and tested thoroughly, hence the early production of a finished PS3.

On the official FCC papers you can see that the powersupply IS indeed internal, which is supported by this picture as well as a number of other random photos on the web.

Let's wait and see what happens, when in late 2007 there will be an installed base of Blu-Ray players more than ten times as large as HD-DVD players... When consumers can select a Blu-Ray player from more than 8 manufacturers, while there will only be half as many brands of HD-DVD players or less. When Blu-Ray owners can select between titles from 7 of the big eight moviestudios, while HD-DVD owners only has a selection from 3 of the big eight.

It may all be very different by t...

Neither Sony nor Toshiba has "hybrid players" in development or planned. That would be to jeopardize their own interests.

A few other manufacturers have talked loosely about making such players, but they haven't actually confirmed they will make one -- probably because it would demand a lot of research, be expensive and ofcourse make for a strained relationship to each of the main platform holders.

But one day... one can dream...

And regarding q...

Ofcourse Blu-Ray is capable of the same quality as HD-DVD... In fact the sound-quality of Blu-Ray is better because of the standards supported and the amount of bitrate eventually available on Blu-Ray will make better image quality possible as well. Both standards support the same codecs, except for sound where Blu-Ray is superior.

The problem for now lies in, that only one Blu-Ray player is out there, and they've made a couple of mistakes on that. So now it's not really HD-DVD...

if Toshiba publicly shunned Blu-Ray... not very surprising.

Let's se what happens, when by the end of 2007 ten times as many Blu-Ray players will have shipped.

Universal Studios has always been exclusive supporter of HD-DVD, so this non-news story hardly comes as a surprise. The list of moviestudios exclusively supporting Blu-Ray is longer, as is the list of hardware manufacturers.

720p, 1080i and 1080p are just the resolution. You know, making everything looking sharper. It's the same as the difference between a .8MP and a 2MP camera (litterally).

While much of the deciding factor for how a game looks visually is the content. Like comparing a photo of a beautiful forest sunset and a flat grey wall. Most would think of the forest as being the better looking photo, but it would be a subjective oppinion.

But one thing is certain -- uping the ...

HDMI and DVI are basicly the same -- a pure digital signal cable (where Component is analogue). The difference being that HDMI has the audio included in the cable (one less cable) where DVI has not. HDMI is the cable of the future for AV equipment.

The difference in visual quality between HDMI/DVI and Component is theoretically big, but most often neglible if at all existent. Not because of the cabling, but because of the imageprocessors in the TVs of today, which often degrade the...

Funny how you've gone from "PS3 will never support 1080p in games!" to "We only need 720p!". :-)

But ofcourse you are somewhat misinformed yet again.

Most LCDs today support 1080i signals AND have a native panel resolution higher than 720p namely the resolution of 1366x768. So that is 768 lines -- not 720 lines as in 720p. Now 1080i will, according to experts from EBU (European Broadcasting Union -- the guys who more or less decides the TV-sta...

The X360 has one CPU just as the PS3. You are mixing cores up with CPUs.

The Cell has one PPU core which the X360 has three of... BUT the Cell has 8 (of which 7 are active -- one is disabled) SPU cores... Each running at 3.2 GHz. And the SPUs are not DSPs as MS would like you to believe.

Each PPU core in both the X360 and PS3 has a VMX unit. You are correct in that the VMX-128 unit in the X360 cores are more advanced than the VMX unit in the Cell....

BUT each ...

You can't actually use GHz as a trustworthy guidance of CPU performance. The megahertz race stopped three-four years ago. I think it is safe to say that the Core Duo 2 chips are a lot faster at general purpose computing than Cell... But at the other hand Cell is probably a lot faster at specific vector-intensive calculations than the Core Duo 2 chips.

3.2GHz is good news though... Or actually a slight GHz downgrade would have been slightly bad news.

Since june shipments implies two thirds of all X360's sold are sold in NA.
