If Wii U is left out of the multi-platform, in all seriousness, I'm more likely to go Steambox as a "bigger console".

If not Steambox, it would be PS4. I can't think of a good reason to go to Xbox1 instead, can you? Any worthwhile multi-platform will hit PS4. Xbox1 doesn't have that many exclusives.

That is why, even as a secondary console, Wii U will likely have a far larger install base than Xbox1

I'd get it for the Wii U first, simply because of the gamepad.

If you play Deus Ex on the Wii U, you'll understand why.

This is my "must have" title for the Wii U.

I loved Deus Ex on the Wii U, and I want a similar genre "hard core" experience.

I have to say that I've been very impressed with the Wii U exclusive games so far. Zelda HD, Supermario 3D, Wonderful 101, Zombi U, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends.

Bayonetta looks amazing too.

Wii U, given the price and games, at this point is a must have.

Then again it may be the powerhouse the PS4 is, for natively written games.

Really hard to compare heavy duty old style X86 processor to new up-to-date and optimized processing systems like Wii U.

@Illionaire

You forgot to add the out of order processing, Wii U's 4 stage pipeline, Wii U displays the textures that are in the memory (I don't believe X1 can, although PS4 could).

Point is that you are comparing apples and oranges. For power usage and memory X1 and PS4 have more. For efficient use though Wii U takes it. Which is better? Hard comparison to make - need "NATIVE" code on each console, and have some definition of "bett...

"The Wii U is such a powerhouse that developers are just choosing to leave their next gen games off of it"

Developers are less concerned about power, and more concerned about ability to port over the largest number of platforms possible. PC, Xbox1 and PS4 are all similar technology.

Wii U is a different technology, and the decision to not develop for Wii U is all about economics, not "power"

@-Foxtrot

"The Wii U is less powerful then the PS4 and Xbox One, we all know that it's common knowledge"

Actually .. uhm ... NO! You're comparing apples and oranges.

The X1 and PS4 have more "raw horsepower", but use it very inefficiently, as much due to their x86 environment as anything else.

Wii U uses out of order processing, has better resource management/better use of pipelines, CPU +edra...

I actually run a software company (no, not games :) and your bakery analogy doesn't quite work.

The issue is resources. You only have so many people, and you aren't allowed to idle them for too long, as it costs way too much money. So transitioning between platforms isn't that simple.

To use your bakery example, it would be like adding an expensive new specialized oven in order to serve those 50 people, but being u...

If Nintendo are going to guarantee $10MM (likely $5MM cash and $5MM cross-marketing promotions) then they are also going to specify the parameters of the game (ie. it is "AAA",)that the game must be "native" to the Wii U, and that it be exclusive to the Wii U for an initial period.

Ten million sounds like a lot, but if it drives consoles sales, it is a drop in the bucket.

Nintendo likely recovers 25-30% from sales of 3rd party IP on its ...

Actually the Wii U is considerably (not just "slightly") more powerful than the 360 or PS3.

Yes, they do need to buy third party support (or defray development costs), until the install base increases to the point that developers can make money on AAA games.

Let me put it this way - games sells for $50 retail, which means that the developer/publisher is at best getting $25. With an install base of 5MM units only, they have to sell to 40% of the install base, an impossibly high number. That is before I even start to factor in marketing costs.

Reali...

The issue, as the author states, is that 3rd parties are going to be reluctant to develop games specifically for the Wii U, without lots of Wii U consoles in the market.

They already have development teams that can run X86 architecture that can be ported to PC, XB1 and PS4 without much issue. Wii U however is a whole different kettle of fish/programming.

Nintendo needs to "buy" 3rd party development and exclusives to start to move market. Sony did...

It may .... Sony needs to focus on core business to make money.

PS4 is nicely dressed to the only real buyer in town - Nintendo.

I haven't been able to buy and keep up with titles as it is!

Finishing Deus Ex DC now. Next I'm looking at getting Rayman Legends and Wonderful 101.

Really ... so many "good" games on Wii U at the moment I won't need anything for a bit.

4446d ago 12 agree4 disagreeView comment

I bought Deus Ex DC, and it was worth every penny of the additional $20. Why? The tablet functionality.

I admit I was hesitant to purchase at first, but am glad I did.

4447d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

For $50 more I can get a Terrebyte of storage on my Wii U. The specs are higher? Who cares, it is about the GAMES!

Ohh ... and the Wii U also comes with a AAA game (or two), doesn't have an annual fee to play online, and has access to a back catalog of Wii games.

Oh - and I'm not a grandma or a milf, and I've been playing games since before Colossal Cave Adventure (likely before you were born).
