I agree that graphically the Wii U is not at the same standard as the PS4. I'd also agree that, for the moment, the online portion isn't as good, but that could change.
However, I have found that with multi-platform games like Dues Ex and AC4, the gamepad is a great addition to the game and gameplay.

Knack is only selling because it is a pack-in at Walmart. If you want to give a real opinion, buy a Wii U and some of those highly rated games, and then tell us they've got it wrong, and why.
bigrob. Had a Wii, got used for first 2 years and then like everyone else we moved on to PS3.
Now this generation, we have a Wii U again. Why? Because it offers FAR more value, and there isn't that huge gap in video. Check out side by side comparisons with PS4 and yes there is a difference, but it isn't that much.
On top of that we get games like AC4 and Deus Ex that play BETTER, as a direct result of the gamepad.

Why would they wait? People in stores picking up their PS4 SEE Mario 3D.
Will first weeks sales be a bit slower? Yes. Does it matter in long run? No. The sales are there.

The PS4 is a couple of years out for me though as I have a PS3 and don't want another console. At that time we'll see ... PS4 with higher priced content or Steabox with lower price, but perhaps fewer exclusives.

Not based on reviews I saw. Anyone I've spoken to wants:
Mario 3d, MarioCart, Deus Ex DC, X, Bayonetta 2, AC4, Watchdogs, W101 .... and the list goes on.
But no ... not Adventure Time which, judging by the reviews, is a steaming pile of ....

There aren't many titles that are exclusive to Sony (and even fewer for MS) that have audience. Studios who might have developed exclusively will now be sorely tempted to develop across platforms.
Nintendo is differentiated enough with its exclusive titles, and lower cost, that it might survive if Steam takes off. And the only "if" in that happening, is the quality of the controller.
Oh there is a market. If they get one out with a decent controller, the cost of games went down and the variety of games went up.
No Xbox1 or PS4 for me (I'll keep the Wii U - has great exclusive content)

What I'd really like to know is if AC4, like Deus Ex, made good use of the gamepad. Gamepad made Deus Ex exceptional on Wii U.
Discounting the gamepad for certain game genres (ie. where you have to deal with inventory, missions, etc)where it clearly adds to gameplay, in favour of additional graphics, is a mistake.

No, I think it is pretty clear that the smart choice this Xmas is the Wii U (if you are choosing a new console).
There is no question that the games on the PS4 are sub-par, and the games on the Wii U are very good. Next Xmas may be a totally different story I'll grant you.
IF that is what you are looking for, get Deus Ex .... it is a GREAT play on the Wii U with its gamepad. Best version without question.
I wasn't really a fan of Nintendo till the Wii U, but I am now.
I've been gaming on computers since before the "Colossal Cave Adventure". Guess what ... I like playing SuperMario 3D, Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends.
I also play games like Deus Ex, Zombi U, and Monster Hunter 3.
