This hack is definitely real, it's definitely not going away and it's definitely not "stolen" from Sony.
Yes, Sony uses a thing called the "Jig" in repair centres and yes, it's a USB device just like the Jailbreak, but the difference is the Jailbreak is NOT the Jig, it's not even close.
It pretends to be a USB hub and quickly connects and disconnects several devices in such a way that a tiny bit of code is left over that the PS3 executes (wh...
It has THREE cameras, how is that "cheap"?
150 EUR is a bit on the pricy side, sure, but I wouldn't say the internals are in any way cheap.
Yeah, because they can't just ban the console, right?
Don't blame the hacker's for Sony's method of tackling them. Sony could easily patch any hacks they make, but instead they'd rather punish YOU guys by removing features. boo-urns!
FAlling out with Microsoft? MAybe.
But I think the more likely reason is obvious - EA.
Valve is partnered with EA, EA publishes all of their games. And who were properly in bed together this E3? EA and Sony. EA's conference was basically a big PS3 fest and they had their own section during Sony's conference.
If push came to shove, EA would probably ditch their partnership with Valve in favour of their partnership with Sony, I'd say that words have probably ...
No, I'm saying it's a dead end, it doesn't lead anywhere, this isn't an exploit or anything useful to anyone.
It's a dead end, move along.
Why should anyone have to buy 2 devices when technically, just one is capable of meeting all their needs? Sony really did shaft a lot of people with that move.
Except there's nothing illegal in this article. "Hacking" is not illegal, you can do whatever you want with the hardware you bought. Plus, you still can't pirate anything on the PS3, so why get upset?
This has nothing at all to do with their gaming business. This is a service which is designed to help people who know NOTHING about technology and need help.
I'm not saying that £25 is "reasonable" for such a simple problem, but you have to ask - why is someone calling Digital Help up to fix this issue and not Sony? And yes, it's a simple fix, but if they just gave it out for free, how on earth would they make money?
Apparently he doesn't get sarcasm, either. Silly fanboy.
Sorry, but I feel the need to balance off this ridiculous fanboy comment with an equally ridiculous fanboy comment..
Ummm...oh oh oh - Loosing features?! Why, that's what the PS3 does best!
...there, now the world is balanced once more =)
If there was only one games console, it would cost £500 at launch, drop about £50 over the next 4 years, peripherals would be more expensive than Even Microsoft's outrageous prices, feature additions would be few and far between, it'd be filled with shovelware and games would cost a fortune.
No thank you. Competition is where it's at.
Ok wow, this is amazing. You've managed to Wiki something without actually reading what you've wiki'd!
"Infrared radiation can be used to remotely determine the temperature of objects (if the emissivity is known). This is termed thermography"
Key word there - CAN. This is one of the MANY applications of infrarred light - as I said before, heat tends to produce IR light, but that's not what Natal tracks (Show me once source that says ...
Heat? Where on earth did you get THAT idea? So I guess your remote control for your TV is actually producing HEAT that the TV detects? No, IR is as much light as anything else, it's just a part of the spectrum that we cannot see. Since heat tends to generate IR light, you can argue than an IR camera can detect "heat", but that's not what Natal does. The IR camera detects depth by itself, that's all you need to know.
You don't need both cameras for 3D viewing, the IR camera does that by itself.
Think of it this way - speed cameras (you know, thei hairdryer-esque device the police use?) have only one camera, yet they can detect distances well enough to be used for an accurate measurment of speed.
could have been using the numpad, that's only 2 keys over.
"Now I ask you what would you rather have, Other OS or no games? Because that is exactly what would have happened if Mr Hotz would have gotten his way, PS3 games would have been pirated and, like the PSP, Developers and Publishers would have thought twice about making games for it."
Yeah, because that's what happened with the 360, DS and Wii, right?
The PS3 is the ONLY console not being pirated to hell right now, if this were to suddenly happen, it would...
I wonder...how long do you think Solid Snake can keep his Snake Solid?
Plus, you underestimate just how much the value may go up over time. A year from now, or 10 years from now (especially before a new halo game comes out), the value will likely have increased.
