Nice rename. I have to wonder, though, have EA realised that their HUGE monolithic brand can actually be a bad thing?

The team behind the engine are not going to be the same team behind the game. In fact, for the team behind the game, most of the console specific stuff will be pretty transparent to them.

Take this rather unscientific, baseless example:

Say on a 360, to draw a cube on screen, you'd use the following function:

X360_DrawCube();

And on the PS3, say it's this function:

PS3_DrawCube();

Somewhere in WhiteEngine's code, it...

The engine is being developed simultaneously, but the game is not. There's a distinct difference between the two.

If the Engine is developed correctly, when the game is "done" for one platform, there's not that much left to do for another platform. It's almost literally a case of running through it and replacing all the Sony logos with Microsoft ones and all the PS face buttons with Xbox ones. Then you've got things live Achievements in place of Trophies (which is proba...

You people are some of the most childish, ignorant, idiodic people I've ever come across and considering I've been hanging around N4G for well over a year now, that's f***ing saying something.

Grow up, FF has always been about the story and the story is going to be the same on both systems.

There's nothing TO say. They'll support Vista for whatever length of time they give software support. It's all standard for Microsoft, so many years. XP is an exception because it's so popular, but Vista wont be.

Obviously since the OS uses up memory, you could argue that maybe some games would be able to take advantage of it, but then factor in just how much advantage that would really be compared to loosing all those valuable features and I think you'll find that the features added are much more worthwhile.
Besides, if you removed the OS completely, the games would still have to implement a LOT of those features anyway and there's no guarantee they'd be as good or anything.
I don't thin...

Like I said in my comment, even he admitted that he doesn't know if the device they're currently testing is the final model or whatever. I'm just relaying information, that's all.

Right, take this all as you will, i.e. with a big ol' pinch of salt:

I have a friend who works for Sony. Nothing spectacular, just a lowly tester (probably the lowest grade job you can get in this industry, unless you're a cleaner). He works at Sony Liverpool.

Anyhoo, I was talking to him 2 days ago (when he finally brought over my copy of Killzone 2) about this new PSP as I'd just bought a PSP myself. I mentioned what all the rumours had been saying so far, various ...

No they haven't, they only eased up on it a little bit by releasing the tool to "deactivate" machines when you uninstall the game (which should be part of the uninstaller, really). They still use it in their games and it still requires an internet connection.

They get shafted by SecurROM anyway. Nothing changes for them, here.
Download speed isn't really much of an issue, look at what Steam does - you can "preload" the game weeks before it gets released so on release day, you only need to download a few kilobytes to unlock it.

I think Guitar Hero sells more because EA are greedy bastards that overcharged on Rock band by stupid amounts.
It was actually cheaper to IMPORT the instruments from America to the UK AND the game was still sold separately. It works out at like twice the price. Australia was no better.
It's a disgrace.

Yes, as a matter of fact you did say that, because you keep coming up with points about how the beta would have "failed" if it hadn't been released on P2P networks, yet every point you've made so far has no relevance to that. All of the same rules apply whether people got it from Piratebay or Microsoft.com - it's beta software in either case and Microsoft's support is the same. If anyone wanted the beta, they could get it just as easily from Microsoft themselves.

So you seriously mean to say that every person with enough technical knowledge to download the beta via Bit torrent or whatever and install it on their PC was incapable of getting it from Microsoft's own website?
I find that hard to believe.

morganfell, the only valid point made there was the distribution costs. That's it. The rest still applies be it P2P or otherwise. What of those points would have caused the beta to "fail" if it hadn't been released on P2P groups?

"The beta release would have failed without bit torrent and they know it."

The purpose of the beta is to TEST the OS, to make sure it works on a huge variety of systems with as few bugs as possible. It wasn't to drum up hype, that's what the marketing department was for. So how exactly would it have "failed"? Are you trying to say that less people would have used it, thus less bugs were found? If so, what's your point? That people shouldn't have bothered with ...

It's not some big conspiracy, you know, sometimes developers HAVE to make these "short cuts". Games aren't cheap and they take a long time to make. If you were a film enthusiast, I bet you'd notice a lot more "short cuts" in films these days, for almost the same reasons. Ultimately, it's not really going to affect your enjoyment of the game. You said it yourself, if it wasn't for Beyond3D, you wouldn't be any the wiser.
I don't think I've ever played a game where I'v...

"the hardware upscale system of the 360 do the trick, or else both would be at 680p native."

The images are upscaled on BOTH systems, the only real difference is the 360 has a dedicated chip for it (which sometimes gives slightly better frame rates, purely because the developer doesn't need to think about scaling, whatever he sends to the chip, the chip does the rest). The output will always be 720p or 1080p or whatever you've set your options to be, but INTERNALLY the ...
