True Wii is basically now dead with no support from Nintendo only 3rd party. The problem with PS3/360 being long term devices as you said is simple - Sony & MS will continue to support them and put games on them. For those who don't need the latest and greatest system right away where is the incentive to upgrade? MS has said it'll support 360 for another 3 years or so basically shooting themselves in the foot! Nintendo stopped with Wii support a while ago and is focusing (gran...

'Next-gen' is simply referring to the next consoles - last gen was Wii/PS3/360 and the 'next-gen' is Wii U/PS4/Xbone. We know Wii U is not as powerful as PS4/Xbone but it's still the next generation console for Nintendo. As far as Nintendo consoles go it is 'next-gen' in terms of hardware as it's compared to the Wii NOT to PS4/Xbone or PS3/360.

I think this would have sold far better had it released on Wii U in February as there was nothing out then and then if it was ported to the others later that would have been fine. Instead Ubisoft had to deal with the negativity of Wii U owners who had to wait 7 months for no reason. It's a great game and would have been very welcome months ago for sure! In any case I love it and can't stop playing!!

I do think in this case the blame is not to be pointed at anyone...

The summer update was on October 1st. Hopefully we get more smaller ones now that slowly upgrade the OS.

This could help Wii U as you'd be able to get big multiplayer games on your console of choice and have tons of people to play against online. Wii U owners wouldn't be complaining that nobody is online and you wouldn't have to buy another console just to get the online experience.

Personally I don't want to have a bunch of consoles c...

Of course Wii U is competing with 7 year old consoles. The other next-gen systems are not out yet. Don't kid yourself in thinking that PS4/Xbone won't also be competing with 7 year old consoles. They will for sure as PS3/360 will still be promoted and have new games for them for years to come. PS4 and Xbone will be competing with them as Sony & MS try to convince current owners to switch. Once those come out the competition will be between Sony's 2 systems, MS's 2 systems ...

Actually - can't delete what i was trying to say.

I can't see that happening to Nintendo. One thing they do have going for them is the focus on family oriented games. They make kid-friendly games and others that are also challenging. They've been around for 30 years by doing this when other game companies have come and gone. By doing so they keep themselves from getting into the big competition we see between Sony & MS - not to say they aren't competing on some levels.

Very well said. I keep reading that when Xbone and PS4 are released they're going to sell millions (which it's true they will), tons will have them and games are going to be released that will make gamers want to go get one BUT you raised another point - why bother spending all that money at the start of a console's life when we all know there WILL be issues and updates and all that fun stuff when games are going to be released on PS3 and 360 possibly for years to come. Where...

The Wii U has suffered without games, no denying that one, but games are coming from now to end of the year and into 2014. While some multiplayer games are coming for Wii U it's not exactly a direct competitor for Xbone & PS4. Nintendo is aimed more at families and kids (and always has been) than the other two which is not a bad thing at all. PS & Xbox have many of the same types of games and loads that come out for both. Nintendo has a ton of exclusives and IPs found nowhere el...

Launch numbers are great but the key is sustaining numbers after that if there's a lag between games. Convincing last-gen owners to switch is not easy.

It's 2 days of sales and that's it. Doom and gloom for 2 days of sales. Anything to bash Nintendo. How sad and typical the last year.

I see lots of complaining that Nintendo puts out Mario games all the time and they should move on. However, they keep putting out new ideas in the games - most of the time - and fans love it! The biggest example of it is with NSMB U which has sold over 2 million copies on a system that has ONLY sold 3.5 million units to date! Why wouldn't a company put out games that sell millions every time? After all Activision does it with Skylanders & COD; EA with all their sports games year a...

What I love is that everyone puts Nintendo down for having, for example, Mario games on every console. Yet they go out and buy every COD, AC (don't get me wrong I liked 3 and have preordered 4), Kill Zone, Mass Effect, Halo game etc etc that keep getting released on PS3 and 360! They need to look at what's in their game library before they put others down for liking games they don't. As for the delay with DKC it's fine with me as it'll be something new in 2014. We keep...

I don't think this is bad at all. There is a lot coming out before Christmas but nothing we've heard of til March with Mario Kart 8. This will help bridge the gap as it'll be a big seller and there will be more owners by then too!

It could also be that there is a ton of stuff coming before Christmas and this will be in the gap before Mario Kart in March. I'm sure we'll hear of more things in the coming months too.

Yes we need to buy the 3rd party games coming like Batman and AC4 among others. If they don't start to sell who knows what will happen. They need to market the unique aspects of them too and the games need to come with everything other versions have including multi-player especially as more units sell.

At least this fall they are stepping it up to get their own games out. We've all complained about lack of 1st party so now we'll see if that was the issue after all. They need to do more marketing and push bundles to get new people on board. Zelda bundle has been a good start. Japan has some with Wii Party U and Wii Fit U - we'll see if these come to North America and Europe too. A Super Mario 3D World bundle that includes the Mario/Luigi controllers would be fantastic!

The more I see of this game the more I want it. I wasn't sure before but I did try it in the summer at Best Buy and it was really fun!!

This is very true at the moment and there's no denying it. What this lineup should succeed in doing is getting more units sold as Christmas comes. When that happens hopefully the 3rd party games will continue and more will come. As Nintendo pushes more on Wii U rather than Wii it will help. Stopping production of Wii (in Japan at the moment) is a step in the right direction.

From what I understand now the companion app will come in handy for all systems including wii u. It allows you to play a separate mini-game sort of thing as you collect ships in the main game. Once you go back to the console you're using anything you've done will be moved over. As long as this doesn't require wifi to work it'll be fantastic on the subway to work!
