By pre-ordering after E3 last year I was able to save 10% on a bunch of games plus some had bonuses. Pre-orders may also help to get them on to lists online and in store so people know what's coming out!

It's going to be amazing! Just saw the article showing Amazon UK premium price for 189 pounds. Anyone on the fence before DKC:TF and Mario Kart 8 shouldn't wait any longer!! Can't wait for both games!

Complete waste of time. Nintendo does not care about Wii U! If they did they wouldn't put out games once every 3 months and then expect e-shop titles to carry the system. That is ridiculous! They needed 2 separate Directs instead of this sad attempt.

They totally blew it with that Direct! They might as well have said it was a 3DS direct since most of it was anyway. Great move Nintendo and way to speed up releases for Wii U. Still 3 months apart. Smart.

True Directs are watched by their fans BUT they also kick off marketing as they are watched by media in the gaming industry. Once the Direct happens - and hopefully soon - they can kick off a full advertising campaign. They really need to get their fans excited as the bad news just keeps coming. Word of mouth helps and fans are waiting on word on games like Metroid, Star Fox etc plus release dates. Release dates are important so pre-orders can be ramped up and bundles with big games like ...

Even temporarily he could have let somebody else get things back on track!

Yes Wii U does need momentum - a Direct before DKC:TF is released will get that started. Games in the next 3 months before MK8 are also necessary. 3 month gaps got Nintendo into this mess in the first place. I'm baffled why this is so difficult to figure out.

the article says right at the beginning when you click to read the whole story that pics are from very early concepts as development only started on January 5, 2014. Kind of tough to say now what it will look like when finished.

I've said before that as part of advertising Nintendo needs to get the Wii U out there in the public eye. Having Wii U on Ellen will help and show people that it's new and, today, has Wii Fit U on it. It would help too to have Sophia Grace & Rosie in England playing Wii Sports Club against Ellen in LA. That would help show people they can play against friends and family from other places. However, to do that the region-blocking would have to be removed - which it should anyway...

They've said in this meeting that they're moving, with NNID on 3DS and Wii U, to have everything like games and apps linked to the ID and not the platforms. Once this happens they can push digital purchases and a discount program.

Perhaps this will work but if they start to have demos on smartphones they need to also make them available on Wii U and 3DS. We need more demos there too and putting them on 3DS might get some Nintendo fans to buy a Wii U as well.

Very true! Perhaps if they put out proper games not crappy ports of Fifa and Madden Wii U owners would have bought more. ME3 should have been released as the trilogy which came out right after Wii U launched on every other system. They release crap then wonder why it doesn't sell. Tiger Woods would have been great on Wii U and those games sold very well on Wii. The version of Need For Speed Most Wanted that came out was fantastic and developers kept praising the system. However, if ...

I'm sure things will turn around similar to the way they did with the 3DS. All this is happening in a year that Nintendo put out only a few top notch games. If MK8, DKC:TF, SSB, Zelda (besides WW HD) etc had been released and these numbers came up then Nintendo would seriously be in trouble. However, as you know NONE of these games are out. They do have to start releasing games faster AND even move up DKC:TF to earlier in February (too long a gap since SM3DW in November) and put MK8 o...

I'm very happy with my Wii U as I'm playing games I never could before. However, I do think another price cut will be good and it should be done just as something like Mario Kart 8 is released. For those of us who already own one they do need to do some kind of ambassador program like they did for 3DS a few years ago. The first price cut they did not do that. An e-shop credit would be good as you could buy whatever you want. I hope they reach out to current owners and start relea...

I want the same thing. I've pre-ordered this as I can't wait to play it but seriously enough already. Release the game and then put out reviews of it. Haven't we heard enough about this game? We've seen it in many Directs, had one just for it and now more articles? There are so many other games they should be telling us about to get the excitement up for the Wii U in 2014 - X, Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, Yoshi etc etc to name just a few.

Seems everyone forgets that by the end of 2012 Wii U had sold 3.1 Million units since its release in November 2012. yes, sales were awful up to October 2013 but have since picked up as games have been released more regularly. We'll see in 2014 if sales of Xbox One and PS4 continue at the pace they are selling now at launch. Every new systems sells like crazy when it launches but then the true sales show as the companies try to convince current owners to upgrade. That is where the toug...

This year should be great for Nintendo with all the games you've mentioned and maybe some we haven't heard about yet. As for Bayonetta 2 I'm not sure how it will do but I hope it sells fairly well especially on a system where it'll be unique. There aren't many games like that for Wii U. In any case I'm looking forward to the 5 games you've listed! Bring on a January Direct already - with release dates!

Probably not but it will do better than Xbone. The 360 sold only 19K units in Japan in 2013 and Wii U is about to have more sold in just over a year in Japan than the 360 has had since it's release there. At first both will sell well since they're new but after that we'll see how they sustain the momentum.
