Built well? It's a piece of crap from a hardware perspective. Despite the fact that MS made it huge and added a power brick to avoid the problem of overheating, the PS4 runs cooler and more quietly during gaming despite being dramatically smaller. Then you've got the fact that it's noticeably less powerful than the competition despite having the same price tag, which is ridiculous. Add in the fact that with the X1 you still have to buy batteries unless you 'invest' in rech...
Yes, because casuals play lots of Indie games.
Instead of picking out a single title on the console, look at the trends. Sure, Nintendo occasionally releases a game for more mature audience, but the vast majority of their titles are built to appeal to 'everyone'.
Indie gamers or people who don't care about MP? You must've missed the memo. The PS4 has more than Indies, and PSN is just as solid as Xbox Live nowadays.
No. People think Nintendo games are for kids because of the shallow characters and stories, the simplistic (If challenging) gameplay, the 'sanitized' feel of the games, and finally the art style. It's not just about the fact that they look 'cartoony'. I can think of a number of titles that have the same look, but are unarguably geared toward older demographics.
My sides hurt from laughing so hard.
'“Not really, for two reasons. For one, we believe our portfolio is far more competitive, not just on the games side, but the stuff we offer from an entertainment perspective. Whether it’s live TV, whether it’s voice commands, whether it’s the entertainment portfolio, I think we are more comprehensive than any other console on the market right now.'
Face the facts, dumbo. No one cares about TV on a console, and no...
Oh wow, this is hilarious.
'Microsoft's Xbox One (originally) launched with the exciting and innovative Kinect sensor, all for just $499.'
The Kinect was 'exciting and innovative'? Motion controls using a camera have been around since the PS2 era. There was nothing 'innovative' about it, and no one was excited for it except for this author, apparently.
As for the Wii U and the Gamepad, it wasn't 'innovati...
Anyone who buys a console within a year after launch and expects there to be a boatload of games is going to be disappointed. I can't think of a single generation in recent memory that actually had more than 1 or 2 great games during that tiemframe.
He fails to mention the obvious fact that the PS4 is simply a better machine. It's smaller, quieter, and it runs cooler during gaming than the X1. It's more powerful, and multi-plat titles look noticeably better on the PS4. You can call that 'hype' if you want, but that's stretching the term.
Really now? I just finished playing a bit of InFamous a few minutes ago, and it was great. I've also enjoyed TLOU:R and Killzone is alright if you only play the multiplayer. On the other hand, what do other consoles have to offer? Ryse? Dead Rising 3?
The fact that the X1 had problems getting Diablo 3 up to 1080p at 60 FPS shows that something curious is going on. It seems to me like Devs are just being lazy. There is no reason a piece of hardware with the specs of the X1 shouldn't be able to reach 60 FPS at 1080P for a game that is hardly graphically demanding.
Oh Jeez, another one of these 'It's a shooter! It doesn't do anything new or fresh! It's terrible!'
I've said it before and I'll say it again. A game doesn't have to redefine the wheel to be great. In fact, some of the best games polish pre-existing mechanics rather than trying something 'new'.
This is good news. The X1, while it isn't selling as well as the PS4, is well on it's way to maintaining and expanding MS's share of the market. While I went with Sony this gen, I hope they continue to do well. Competition only makes things better for everyone.
' it's glitchy with low frame rate, no DLC, Graphics aren't more polished'
That would be the fault of the hardware. Instead of blaming the devs, how about you ask Nintendo why they insist on releasing consoles with some of the weakest hardware imaginable.
Ouch. In other words, 'Most Wii U owners are casuals who aren't interested in 'mature' games'.
....Seriously? I can think of a number of games that look more 'realistic' than the P.T. Killzone, Infamous, and even TLOU:R look better. That's not to say the actual game won't look amazing, but the demo isn't anything to be wowed at.
Honestly, the number of people I hear talking about how CD did this because they didn't 'want to go up against Uncharted' kind of cracks me up. People do realize that the TR reboot sold better than Uncharted 3, which was the best selling game of the entire franchise to date?
Suicide? You do realize that the Tomb Raider reboot actually outsold Uncharted 3, which was the best selling game of the franchise? It sold 6.3 million, while the TR reboot sold 6.5 million as of June.
It's because it's become 'in' to hate on MS, and anything MS does must be bad, even if other companies do it too. Of course, it's incredibly silly. The same thing has happened with companies like EA. They are hated because they 'milk' franchises like COD, yet other companies regularly do the same thing. Ubisoft is even worse than EA in that regard, yet they don't get anywhere near the level of hate.
Pretty much. There is nothing wrong with polishing a well known mechanic to perfection. More often than not, it works better than trying to reinvent the wheel.
