Agreed. It seems to me that a lot of gamers and reviewers have this need for instant gratification. They can't stand to have unanswered questions at the end of a game, so it's not much of a surprise that they can't appreciate story-telling that relies heavily on mystery, which has always been Bungie's style.
On another note, this article makes me laugh. He claims all of Destiny's story is contained within the cards on Bungie's web site, and that he ha...
That's not really the issue. The problem is how the reviewers are treating Destiny. Rather than reviewing the game as a whole, almost every review dissects Destiny and puts it's divergent pieces in different boxes. They then compare the elements it borrows and compares them with the gold standard of the various genres. When you look at Destiny's RPG elements, sure, they are mediocre compared to those from a fully fledged RPG like Skyrim. If you look at it's loot system, sure i...
1. A minor gripe, at best. The loading times are tedious, but given Destiny's nature, it's to be expected. As for why you need to go back to orbit after you complete a mission, it should be obvious. Almost every mission gives you an upgrade or reward that you have to return to the Tower to get.
2. This 'complaint' is just as inaccurate as every other site that's parroted it. There are 26 missions in Destiny, not including patrols or raids. Out of those 26 ...
By that logic, Ghosts should've died a long time ago. Yet even with the release of Titanfall and Destiny, people are still playing it. People need to realize that simply because they don't like a game, it doesn't mean that others haven't enjoyed it.
Agreed. It's one of the best games I've played this year.
If you enjoyed it, that's fine. But that game had massive, glaring flaws that everyone seems to overlook. There is virtually no plot for most of the game. For the first several hours of gameplay, you are told that you are 'Undead' and that you have to ring the 'Bells of Awakening', but it doesn't give you any real reason to care about what's going on. Which is a major issue considering that you have to grind continuously to get through the game at all.
I could care less about the scores a bunch of 'critics' give a game when they gave crap like Dark Souls a 9 and the latest COD high 8's.
For example, the Giantbomb review is full of crap. They claim there are only '4 cutscenes in the entire game!' and that it's light on lore and world-building. Nevermind that there are far more than than 4 cut scenes, and that it gives more information than games like Gears of War and Halo did in their first games.
My problem with the Destiny reviews aren't the scores. I could care less what arbitrary number they slap on a game. My problem is that the reviews aren't judging Destiny on what it is, but instead on what they thought it should've been. This leads them to being irrationally critical. For example, a common complaint on gaming review sites I've seen is that the RPG elements are underdeveloped because the classes 'aren't different enough'. Having played all three clas...
The user scores are actually high, once you adjust for all the trolls who gave the game 0's as soon as they could post their 'reviews' on sites like Metacritic.
My money was well spent. Best 60$ I've spent on a game in a while.
...Because Destiny isn't COD?
I had that issue, but it only lasted for like 10 minutes.
The story is fine. The problem is, aside from Halo fans, people aren't familiar with how Bungie actually tells a story. They aren't like Naughty Dog or Bioware who more or less put all of their cards down on the table with the first game. Bungie games have always raised many questions that would only be answered in subsequent titles. Of course, some people may complain about the lack of characters, since we only have Ghost, The Speaker, and the Stranger along with all the random NPCs ...
No, they did not. The 500 million dollar rumor was put to rest months ago. That was the budget approved for the overall franchise, which included Destiny, it's expansions, and it's sequels.
Not when the game was designed from the ground up to be Co-Op and it's always been marketed as such.
...This author is trolling for clicks. No shitty Indie game even comes close to Destiny.
People are hating on it for several reasons, and they were doing so even before launch. Ultimately, Destiny is a lot like Halo: CE in terms of plot, with a mix of RPG elements. If you like Halo, chances are you'll love Destiny.
I doubt you've played it, so your opinion is irrelevant.
...Yeah, when has that ever happened? Gamers hate Call of Duty, but it gets record sales. Most people couldn't care less what a bunch of guys in comment sections think about games. They play what they like.
What exactly is hidden in the cards that wasn't in game? Everything we need to know about the Traveler, the Darkness, Guardians, Ghosts, and even the various enemy races are found in game. The cards provide some random details here and there, but nothing that would make me say the story is 'hidden' in them.
