Microsoft and Sony wont be doing that next generation. I'm sure we'll see digital available on day one, but it'll be the same price as retail. Microsoft and Sony wont want to upset the regular retail sellers who have to sell the consoles to begin with.

Physical media is in no immediate danger of going away because of all the slow download speeds, some people don't even go online at all, and some people like myself have a download cap. I am only allowed 150 gi...

The Xbox is called that because it was short for Direct X Box. Simply for what was being used at the time.

You are living in a dream world. Activision will never sell the IP to Sony, and Sony wouldn't want it. Why waste money on something that has gotten such a bad reputation lately?

I know the consensus around here is that Sony makes everything better, but living in the past doesn't appeal to me. I considered Crash to be a Sony thing in the late 90's, but that is about it. I'd actually consider Tomb Raider to be in the same mascot line of talk as Crash, I associat...

I think some advertising, and not going up against a Rockstar release would help the sequel to succeed. Alan Wake was my favorite game from 2010, and American Nightmare was nice, but not the full on experience I wanted.

Hopefully Alan Wake 2 kicks off the next Xbox, because I feel like that could potentially be a killer app for the console. I think word of mouth and some of the accolades Alan Wake got, including Time Magazines GOTY, got people interested and while I don'...

Too many people here are living in the past. Crash was a decent game back on the PS1, there hasn't really been a good one since that time. Sony never owned Crash, they will never own Crash, and Naughty Dog probably wouldn't want to waste their time on an IP that has been used like the town bicycle.

I think a reboot would do Crash some good, if they took the proper time and care with it. It could be that platform games are just a dying breed and the people who played t...

What if Naughty Dog stopped after the first Uncharted? Or Sega after the first Sonic? Most great franchises don't hit stride until at least the second game in the series.

Alan Wake was probably my favorite game of 2010, it had a great story and didn't rely on gore to get cheap scares. It had some of the best lighting, story and atmospheres I've ever played in a game. American Nightmare was nice to hold people over, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that I...

Microsoft did a good job at marketing the current Xbox 360 to families and casuals. Casual gamers don't rush out and buy new hardware at launch, it's always hardcore gamers. I'd expect a ton of games aimed at core gamers for the launch, and slowly over the first few years we'll see the introduction of more casual and family options. Microsoft will support the Xbox 360 for at least a couple of years and they wont want to directly compete with themselves.

Micro...

Personally it's $399 or less or I wait for a price drop, no matter what the console is or who makes it. Luckily I've been able to buy pretty much every console over the last 20 years because of this plan. Missed out on PS3 obviously, but I was day one on PS1/PS2.

Sadly this is the future of gaming, I think niche online where the players totally abandon the game within a month is becoming the norm.

I wasn't really upset with the ME3, UC2 or Assassins Creed online, but I didn't put the time into those games online like I did with games like Battlefield, COD and Halo. They just aren't built for lasting communities in my opinion.

I think these companies are just trying to appeal to the people who might only b...

I believe from a technical standpoint it is probably better, I own the Wii U version and the Xbox 360 version. The problem with the Wii U version is that nobody plays it online, obviously I wasn't expecting millions of people on it like the Xbox 360 version, but I would hope for 25k or so.

Microsoft said they will support the Xbox 360 into 2015 and I tend to believe them. I highly doubt we'll see many exclusives after 2013, but it'd be foolish to think we wont see third party games like Call Of Duty, Battlefield and Madden for at least a couple of years after the next Xbox releases. There are over 70+ million 360's out there, and Microsoft has done a good job at marketing the Xbox 360 as MORE than a game machine, so I'd say it definitely has a couple of years le...

In my opinion it wouldn't hurt to scrap a couple of the lesser games per year and put that money into actually advertising some of the other exclusives. As it is you have a ton of great games that nobody even knows exists! Sony has to keep in mind that it's actually a very small minority of gamers that use online forums and places like N4G to get gaming news.

I like that they take risks, but some games just get zero publicity and that boggles my mind. Resistance 3 and...

I have never really heard such arguments when it comes to something as blurred as core and casual gaming. Casual gaming to me is mostly handheld phones and Facebook games, while pretty much anything on a dedicated console or handheld are core.

Nintendo has always been what I'd consider family friendly, and it's hard to argue with the success that they've had with that. I believe that people look for different reasons just to hate on Nintendo and that is the easie...

Well I think some of those are good ideas, I can certainly speak for myself when I say that a price drop would entice me. I tried to get the AC Vita bundle on Black Friday on Amazon, because I think $179 is a solid price point with a game and memory stick.

It's been a couple of weeks since we had one of these articles, just surprised we got one when Xbox Live cards DOUBLED in sales from last year.

Guess when you need hits you can always go with the PSN+ Vs XBL argument, or Vita is dead, Microsoft vs Sony or any other number of ridiculous hit inducing articles.

Very impressive, and although we've come to take for granted that the Xbox brand is tops in North America, it wasn't like that throughout the generation. Microsoft has done a really great job getting their brand recognition out there. It really sets them up for next generation because no matter what they do in the rest of the world, as long as they do well in North America they will always be in the console wars

As for me personally, its just good to see that the Xbox...

I kind of figured this would be more telling. They wont leave such a great looking game out to dry, even though the game looks amazing, sales might not be where Sony would want it to be if they release it up against a new console.

History is plagued with late releases that went up against new hardware and didn't end up doing very well, Super Metroid, Conker and Doom 3 just to name a few.

I was already figuring on a PS4 launch next year, due to the proba...

Because you have to keep it in perspective. Obviously gaming is going to increase over the first four or five years as the consoles reach maximum saturation. This has been one of the longest generations ever, that tends to mean saturation and that means things will decline. That doesn't mean that gaming in general is on the decline, it just means the current hardware has pretty much been bought by the people that want it.

If you look at the first console that launched las...

I liked the awards show save a few moments, I question some of the choices, sure The Walking Dead had the best story in a game, but the actual game mechanics weren't that great. The controls were iffy and the camera angle at times was clunky. Definitely the best story though, I thought for sure a larger title would have won. My only complaint about The Walking Dead winning is now companies will act as if digital is the way to go, hopefully they keep it as an option.

Also,...

Everyone is rushing to release their AAA titles before E3, which means new consoles are confirmed. Nobody wants to compete directly with a console launch. Looking forward to this game though, I'll probably only get 3 to 4 current gen titles next year and focus on saving up for both the next Box and PS4.
