Wow, MB sounds like he's 16 and is a blu fanboy.
I'm glad my boy GL doesn't talk like that.

If it all goes blu...I wonder if all the Tosh machines can be firmware updated to read BD discs. If so that would be killer for current end users.

Heyheyhey:
No pip for HD DVD???
They had it from day one!
BD only had it in profile one by putting two sizes of the movie on the disc. By profile 1.1 this was fixed.

As for the simple firmware updates. Ask the many customers that bought a bdps300 and can't update to profile 1.1. What do I tell them go buy a PS3 or just wait a yr for profile 2.0.
If you have to buy a standalone right now you might as well wait a yr for profile 2.0.
Well unle...

Knowing MS:
We'll see a Xbox360/HD DVD combo and or something about their next gen console coming out next yr.

Either way I use BD players and HD DVD players everyday at work. I still like HD DVD players better.
I like the features. I'll have to wait till profile 2.0 in a BD player to even get what the HDA30 has now and it costs less.

So I'll be at least 2 yrs before prices come down far enough for me to buy one out right and also be profile 2.0. ...

Well rumors are going around 500 million was on the table and WB took it.
I guess HD group didn't put up enough or got out bid.
Toshiba has said WB is in breech on contract..which they might be depending on how it's written.
Toshiba will probably sue for the 500 million.
Kinda wondering now if any 360/HD DVD unit will come out now.
I wouldn't be surprised now if the HD DVD group is trying to make another offer to win back WB.
Probably around 700 mil r...

Apple only makes Mactels now. No more PPC machines.

I'm sorry but the 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Clovertown” was in a Mac Pro a month or so before it was even available for PC's.

You guys do realize current Apple DVD Studio Pro 4 allows for the burning of HD DVD content to both standard DVDs and HD DVD media.

So it's more likely a hybrid drive since Apple would start alienating users already using it's current software.

It's all very possible considering Apples new stance on allowing Windows to boot on their machine now.

And as always we might not see anything about HD or BD from Apple this month.
It happened all las...

If the studio wants money it'll just do a time exclusive with the PS3.
What's all this talk about MGS5? I thought K. said this was the last one.

So, why would K. deny any 360 skunk operations?
Well he's protecting his vested interests and his partners(Sony).
If one does come out I give it 6-12 months after the PS3 release...any sooner and you'll have fanboys in a up roar.

So where is the DS port of this game. Make it and it would sell like ...

Unless your receiver can decode True HD and DTS HD you'll never heard the difference.
Many receiver's are just HDMI pass through. It does nothing for your audio.
If you want to hear DTS HD go to a store that specializes in Home Theatre and I'm not talking about Best Buy either. DTS was amazing back then and it's new codec is even more amazing.

DTS for me will always sound better then Dolby. Go pickup twister and listen to it in both Dolby and then DTS. The Dol...

I'm not sure it's that simple. Because someone has to pay for that DTS HD decoder and the license to use it on the machine. I have a feeling it'll be passed on to the consumer...which is you and me.

I'm sorry but not all movies look that great in HD.
Bad transfers, frame cropping, bad edits, crazy edge enhancement, high grain, no special features.

(HD DVD)The Game: Bad transfer(barely better then DVD) and it only comes with stock DVD special features.
(Blu Ray) Robocop: Bad transfer..even after it go re-minting process and Fox what happened to the special features you promised? (Robocop fan)

What's with all the rush jobs? Even brand spankin ...

Thing is the nielsen ratings aren't even that correct since they leave out Wal-mart which recently seems to be doing 50/50 splits of HD and BD media now and is now stocking HDA3' and the new venture players. Wal-mart's here seem to sell only one BD player(the PS3). While they still sell 2 HD stand alones and the 360 add on.
I'm not sure what Wal-marts HD/BD market share is, but it's DVD market share is 40%.

You guys do realize 28 and 100mb dl speeds are coming this yr from AT&T and Comcast.
The most we'll wait is maybe 12 months here before it deploys fully.
Not to mention Verizon and AT&T are wanting to do VOD HD content directly to your home bypassing cable and dish providers.

You know I can put about 5 BD movies on my portable Toshiba 200GB HDD and it takes up less space then 3 BD cases. So, you can leave your computer at home. I do it all the time.

I recently watched Directv on a new 1080p MITS 73" and all the channels in 1080i look sweet for the most part, but then you see those eye sore looking 4:3, 480p channels and they just look damn ugly.

Not enough HD channels for me to buy DTV or Dish right now.
Maybe in about 3-6 months.

Half the picture?

The only difference is the frame rates.
One just flows a bit better. 90% of the time you can't tell if it's 1080i or 1080p.
30 vs 60 fps.

Do you think DVD manufacturers got desperate when they started selling DVD players under $100 bucks?
Nope, they did it because at that price they can sell volume, which in turn makes up for the lower profit margins.

Tru Blu?
Google: Onkyo DV-HD805 $799 at most places
Go to B&H in NYC and go see one in person. It's on 420 Ninth Ave.
Integra (www.integrahometheater.com) aka Onkyo's higher end brand has one as well and it sells for just over a grand.

Mis-informed BD fans.

Cusco is correct. Toshiba makes tons of money doing R&D for chips. Hell Sony is even paying them now to produce the Cell now. Tosh big money will always be the DVD patents. You can't even make a DVD or DVD player without paying them a fee.

6618d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yeah, I really want that old $299 BD player I can't upgrade to even 1.1.
To get a 1.1 I need to spend $450-500.
That's more then the price of the A35 and almost the price of the Onkyo HD DVD player.

How is BD superior? PCM vs Lossless has become a mute point since many audiophiles have said anything gained in PCM is negligible or no difference at all.
Size wise? What BD movie uses the 50GB disc? All of them so far are only 25GB discs.
The only sup...

I found this funny:
"Both players are atrociously slow at powering on and launching playback on their discs.

If the machines are turned off in the standby mode and you hit the power button, it takes a good 40 seconds or more before the devices are ready and you can pop open the disc trays.

Once you insert a disc and close the tray, it's 30 seconds or so before playback begins."

I disagree, because I've sold a many HD DVD players to well informed consumers.
Reasons they buy:
Two versions to buy depending on what HD TV res they have.
Two low price points. Our current price point $199(A3),$249(A30)
Two movies from the get go.
Combo disc lets you play HD and SD versions.
3 ways to upgrade your HD players.
Will up convert their old DVD collection.
No region lock.
Lower DRM restrictions. (we all know DRM is ...
