Why are they pushin the old Sammy models!!!
If you buy get at least the panasonic DMPBD30K...or wait on the DMPBD50K with BD LIVE support.

The Toshiba XA2 and both Onkyo and Integra models have the reon HQV processor.
The HDA35 used the Anchor Bay Technology chip set instead of the HQV.

If you want the best upscaling get a separate box.
Most players still use the reon HQV processor for upscaling.
The realta HQV teranex processor takes to the next level for professional level of 1080p upscaling.
Gefen sells one for $499.

Or buy a Denon or Marantz's BD players.

I doubt a HD movie takes a full 30GB's even. Take out all the animated menus, special features, extra dialog tracks, and other languages.

I know menus on current DVD's take about 2-3 GB's now on avg.

If I'm DLing I only want the movie and the english (subs) sndtrk.
Studio's could make multiple movie files with just different lang. sndtrks. You just pick your language.

It may still take a while to DL 15GB movie file with all the extras cut out but...

Either re-buy or just keep a HD DVD player handy. CC is selling the A3 for $99 now.

I will say it now. Any disc tech eventually will be killed off by some type of portable compact flash or SSD.
No moving parts and nothing to really scratch. Once prices drop in the next 5 yrs we'll see more and more folks carrying movies on CF or SSD variants.

First, I doubt Sony would ever say no to MS since MS would just sue for rights.
Second, did Nintendo fans abandon the NES when ROB didn't work or had no games or when the powerpad and got lost in the shuffle? No, they just bought the next new thing from Nintendo...the SNES. You may have a few defectors but don't expect many. Fans tend to stay loyal. A true gamer however will own a PS3, Wii, XBOX360, PSP, and DSLite.

Toshiba will either make a BD player or.... (IMO)
wait until ssd memory prices drop and create movies on 1.8" carts in 80-130GB sizes(read only)
This would also open the road up for carts that can store DLed movies and what not.
The player and carts have no moving parts so this would make it more reliable then your std disc players.
You could also micro size the player into every OLED tv's base which would eliminate even having to buy a player.

I'd gi...

To the disagree:
If your commission based then tell me, if Sony BDPS300 paid more then Tosh A30 last yr?

6563d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Well if your commission based like me we always sold HD over BD because we simply made more money off of it. It was also an easier sell because it was cheaper and was faster then the current crop of BD players from last yr.

DMPBD30K should be the only choice for stand alone at those prices.

Both Sammy and the Sony unit have issues with freezing. The Sharp is ok but it blow away by the speed of the 30K and it also has a SDHC card slot.

Otherwise just get a PS3.

I'm waiting for BDLive.

6564d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Did you really have a choice to begin with?
I mean Sony gave everyone a BD player with it's new PS3.
This whole format war was all about money/greed not about choice. If it was about choice then everyone would've made a HD DVD and BD player. All the studios would've been format neutral.

With better DRM's studio's can keep more money in their pockets and less in the pirates pockets.
That also keeps the prices higher and less likely for retail stores to devalue ...

I've always wondered why Sony DVD players still deny DIVX support while everyone else just includes it.
I like DIVX. I hope new BD players support DIVX HD too.

If your asking for price breaks on BD and BDM this yr I doubt it will happen this yr unless retail stores do it first.
We will see more of the same prices through out 08'.
The reason being is because every time we get a new profile update the price just goes right back up. Expect more of the same when the 2.0 profile players drop. When the 1.1 players dropped they came in at $450 and $550. They will reduce to $299-399 when the profile 2.0 comes along. Does anyone know if 2.0 w...

Does Paramount own Bay? Just wondering..because it almost seems like he's trying to sweet talk someone on the BD side. Maybe Sony? Maybe he wants someone to float his next blockbuster but Paramount won't?
Either that he's just a major fan boy that is very vocal.

Price of both HD and BD is insane at this point.
Price of players and media need to drop.
I'm holding out until BD hits at least profile 2.0.

I have a feeling most studio's plan on double dipping with many of the High Def titles.
Give me one with very few extras and then another 3-6 months away with better extras and etc...

If I remember right the RCA player is a first gen HD DVD player. That RCA unit has been gone for quite some time now...well unless they've got stock for the online store. I know all stores here clearance them out the middle of last yr.
I should know because my friend got one for $50. It's not even really worth that.

Maybe the SE market is different from the NE markets??
Either way $148 for a first gen is ridiculous...especially when you can get a 3rd gen for the sa...

Format doesn't matter. Blu or red the DRM's all get broken...then eventually we'll see bootlegged copies coming in from China and other places. It's happened with DVD and it will happen to BD or HD too.

You can already import region free BD players now from China. Give it time.

The only way to stop pirates is to make it a life sentence for copying and selling copyrighted material.

Within 10 yrs all of this stuff will be a mute point as like now you'll just ...

I'm not sure if this is new because almost every BB since last yr has been pushing BD players and formatted discs. I guess this just makes it official now.

Same could be said about the Wii too.
Nintendo said it sold over 21 mil back in Jan and VCG just hit 21.10 this week.
