Question why should I buy a 1080p player when our current tv only 2 months old supports only 720p and 1080i?

And no I don't own a 360 or PS3.

I just don't see the point in it really. Why pay $100-200 bucks more for a player's res. I can't even use.
And if I had it I probably wouldn't see 1080p unless I used a major buck cable or a very short 3 footer.

If you work in retail you would know consumers want something they can use right now. You can't even use 1080p currently unless you have a HD or BD player or a gaming console. Reg HD tv's only come in at 720p and 1080i(normally about $200+- cheaper then it's 1080p counterpart). Most consumers don't see the value in something they can't use everyday unless they are a gamer or a big movie buff.

Plus, if they buy a 1080p tv they'll need to buy a HD/BD player to even use that res. ...

I can give you 3 reasons why folks aren't buying.

They just hooked up the following:

Cable HD

Dish HD

Directv HD

After folks get their HD content then they buy a HD DVD player or BD player.

I sell HD TV's everyday so I hear this all the time. We want to wait on the player until we get HD Dish or Cable first.

I doubt it's a blow to anyone. Intel has to support both because PC/Mac's will have both in them coming this fall. AMD will do the same as well.

LG has a PC in Japan that supports both formats. Apple's next OS supports both formats and has sparked rumors of a combo drive for 08' Mac's.

By this fall you'll see LG and Samsung combo players everywhere. I'm sure others will follow.

I still say Disney will follow Apple and go format neutral either this yr or next.
I mean hell SJ is on the board of directors at Disney and his very own OS is supporting both formats.

cuco33: Your absolutely right.
They are doing the same with Target. They did it for the PS3 and Nintendo did it for their Wii.

If you want to see HD DVD on a big screen go to an HH Gregg then. We have both BD and HD playing side by side on 7.1 Klipsch sound systems and on 73" MITS.

That was deal #1. Wal-Mart was talking to about 3-4 companies about this, not just one.
ACLO is the Chinese partner that makes the Venture SHD7000. Venture is based out of Canada and their products can be had in Wal-Marts in Canada.

Maybe Wal-Mart is going with a combo player?

At HH Gregg, it looks like we'll be dropping the Sony BD player in favor the new Samsung BD player. Instead of carrying 2, Toshiba HD DVD players we're only carrying the new A30 player. We are also carrying the new Samsung BD/HD DVD combo player.

Weird our Super Target has 3 rows of BD and HD titles...maybe it's region specific because Target usually goes by a planagram that gets updated every week

I'm sorry but Target's attach rate is 3-4 games per Wii sold.
It's been this way since Nov. and hasn't change since.

Same here at our store. We are currently waiting for the 3rd gen Toshiba's to arrive now.
We've had the newest BD's forever but no-one is buying due to the 1.1 update coming in Nov and Dec players.

I remember when my friend found this...I was like WTF?
It was kinda cool but I wish I had some subs!

I love the controls in MP3! I've so far only gotten about 10% completed, but the puzzles seem pretty well thought out so far and Meta Riddley was pretty damn tough or at least I thought so.

DVD will be around for the next 5-8 yrs I expect.

We have both ver. at work and when you run them side by side on two 73" MITS you can def. tell a difference in the framing. I'm keeping my DVD collection until this can be sorted.

So it's not a loss of frame when the head and bodies of actors are cropped off? Did you even look at the normal 16:9 images vs the framing error BD 16:9 images?
Your losing the top portion of the movie.

It wasn't even 3 months ago we heard all the indi euro film makers were going to HD DVD?

So which is it?
Are they or aren't they?

6736d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

I think you need some glasses.
Your losing about 20% of the frame in the way BD is cropping it.
