You can on HD DVD as an import from Japan.
Bale is freakin awesome in that movie.

Lord of the Rings/Star Wars/Indiana Jones trilogy/Star Trek Ultimate movie collection.
Get those 4 and make them exclusive to a format and you've got your self a winner with all the fans out there.
Too bad no-one knows which will go where. SW is in limbo because of the format war.
LR and Indiana seem to be on standby for HD or BD and the same for ST collection.

I bought Bourne 3 and new Harry movie.
Stardust and bladerunner is my next purchase.

GL would never release just on one format. If anything he'll wait for the format war to end or force a two format sale. Toyboy Lucas is like WB..they want it all and I don't blame them.

Thats the problem with the NDP numbers. They don't cover everyone. One big player is Wal-Mart which owns about 40% of DVD sales every yr.
I'm not even sure if they include Amazon numbers or is that part of Internet sales only...?

And where do I buy most my movies? Wally World and Amazon and that's due to price.

Of course Pirates was going to win last week. It was a major blockbuster title.

HD released pretty much nothing.

HD ver of HP is doing really well and bourne is in the top of the Amazon charts.

Our local Wally world sold out of both.

Do you guys not sell Onkyo, DV-HD805 and the
DHS-8.8 Integra HD DVD players? The Onkyo is in the $800 range and the Integra is in the $1k range but then again the ES Sony is in the $1,300 range for BD.

As for losing money Toshiba would've lost more money have they let them sit and gather dust then sell them at discount to move them out of stock. And don't think studio's and other manufacturers are not taking a hit.
Profit margins are shrinking everyday. By...

It's only going to go higher in Dec.
You can't even find one now.
Prepare to wait for one.
I saw 150 people waiting for one last week at BB.
It should drop a bit in Jan..but SSBBB will keep sales up through out the first qtr of 08 easily.

I'm sorry, but many blood soaked HC games don't do so well in Japan. I think it's more about the culture then anything. FPShooters don't do well there either.
Look at this last top ten on VGC:
1. Professor Layton and Pandora's box - DS
2. Wii Fit - Wii
3. SD Gundam G Generations Spirits - PS2
4. Dragon Quest IV - DS5
5. Devil Kings 2 Heroes - PS2
6. World Soccer Winning Eleven 08' - PS2
7. Mario Party DS - DS
8. Mario and Son...

You do realize Amazon is selling the HDA30 plus 10(was 12disc yesterday) disc deal for $249.
At $359.98 you get the HDA35 and 10 discs.

Even without the extra discs...the HDA30 is selling at $298-299 all over with just the current 7 disc deal.

We sell this Samsung and it needs a firmware upgrade right away to fix the BD+ issues.
This is also a profile 1.0 as well not the newer 1.1 profile.
Now would I sell it over the BDPS300....hellz yeah! ...

(IMO)
The best BD player out on the market is the Sony BDPS2000ES.
But get ready to cough up $1300 for it.
ES is the best from what I've seen of it.
ES = Elevated Standard
While most BD players come with a 1 yr warranty the ES has a 5 yr warranty.
All other BD Sony players come with only a 1 yr.

If you want the best buy ES.

If you want the best of HD DVD you need to buy a HDA35.

What?
Harry Potter OP - Dolby TrueHD 5.1
Mr. Bean - Dolby TrueHD 5.1
A Clockwork Orange - Dolby TrueHD 5.1
Many HD movies have DTHD 5.1 sound.
So I guess your complaining about DD+ then. I hate to break it to ya, but you can find DD+ on many BD titles too...especially movies 15-30+- yrs old.

When the reviewer at HD Digest reviewed the new Harry Potter movie he said initially the PCM was louder then DTS-HD, then he level matched and they basically sounded the same.

Read the new Harry Potter movie review on HD Digest..the reviewer basically says I can't tell the difference between the two.

Planet Earth is 1080p in the US.
Most of it was filmed in HD except for a few sections and that was due to extreme climates.

shmee:

What you fail to realize most folks that buy a HD DVD player get 300 for free.
What's the point unless you just want the combo ver over std HD disc(freebie).
The funny thing is I bet almost everyone who has a A3/A30/A35 still has the 300 freebie disc.

6694d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I bought Planet Earth today. If you guys haven't realized it yet thats the best HD disc to showcase any HD DVD player. You got textures, hundreds of moving objects on screen at once, high and low saturated colors, deep blacks, multiple whites. Hell, it's a good way to sell any LCD too for that matter.

The next best demo disc will be the next Harry Potter movie which actually had a slightly better review over at HD Digest then it's BD counterpart. (actually I might buy both ...

I'm sorry, but you still have to licenses specs for the DVD std from Toshiba.
And VHS was invented by JVC.
UMD?
.....ok..

I think he might have a point.
We'll probably see something similar like what happened to DVD+-R's media formats.

Well right now I need a laptop more then I need a HD DVD player or any player for that matter.
We all have priories.
I still like HD over BD, but I also like the idea of downloading a 25GB movie in less then a hr.
