Are you trying to butter my muffin raider.
I'm still not buying a PS3. I however might buy a BD player from Panasonic or Sharp once BD Live hits stand alones. But right now I'm just DLing everything because I need the cash reserve for a dp on a new house this yr.
This booklet came out back in mid-Nov.
HHGregg use to hand them out with each HD purchase.
Hoopers(SE area) a local high end store around here had them as well.
The irony is folks making a big deal out of nothing. The booklet got printed in Nov.
Our store has about 40 of these. We got them back before black Fri.
It included info on the format/players, current and future movie release dates, rebate for HD DVD movies, and promo about the Star Trek Phaser rem...
Not sure, if it'll hit 100 mil by 2012 but it could hit 60+- million by then.
It's already basically at 20 million now.
If you figure 10-12 mi units per yr then it would be a approx. 70-80 mil. by 2012.
To do 100 mil. the Wii would have to sell at least 15 mil units from here on out a yr.
The Wii could sell 15 mil this yr, but I doubt it will sell this strong going into the latter yrs.
People could careless. if it's in 720p or 1080i or 1080p.
Hell the only time you see a difference is in a 1080p HD or BD player.
Everything else just looks the same. Especially on Cable/Sat HD setups.
Most people can not even tell the difference between 720p or 1080p...unless you've got a BD or HD player sitting right beside it.
Waiting until mid yr before I pick anything up.
New models and new prices.
Most people still can't borrow your BD discs.
Because most people don't have HDTV's and most don't have 1080p tv's either.
Even if they had a 1080p tv they would still need a decent BD player to play it on.
Thats about 5-10% of the market right now?
HDTV adoption rate won't be high enough until sometime in 09'.
And people on Cable and Sat. will still hold out until 2012(that's their mandated turn over yr).
People do have PC's, Mac's, and iPod'...

I'm sorry, but the only bd player that can be profile updated is the PS3 player. You can update the firmware for playback, but not the profiles.
I've updated Sammy's before and it only fixed the drm plus issue with certain new Fox movie releases. Thing is not everyone wants a gaming machine. Most consumers regardless of how well off they are do not want t...
What's wrong with them being competitive.
I see the same thing from HD VMD too but it's all about competitiveness.
Tosh will probably ride HD DVD until 09'
Then it will either be dead or still kicking.
Without the price wars between HD and BD players I doubt any of us would've seen $299 BD players so soon.
Now drive down the HD and BD media prices. Hi Def movies cost too much..currently.
I found this on the AVS Forum:
"I would like to state that we have 20+ titles that will be released this year. We will continue to support the format. We would like to thank all of the AVS forum members for their support in 2007 and we look forward to their continued support in 2008.
Having worked at WHV for 5 years I know that employee turnover rates are very high. Watch for a complete reversal on their stance within 3 weeks. The group of WHV execs who have authori...
I would say your wrong on that part.
No time have Toshiba dropped money way below or close to cost even now.
The cost of a A3 has always been $110 for us. Even at $149 they make money.
It's been that way since the A3 debuted.
So if the price has stayed the same since debut. I would figure Tosh has been making money all along or lost it from get go.
IT already does.
Remember you can use Vista and OSX on Mac's now.
So it should play all games if you invest in Vista.
Toshiba messed up by not marketing HD DVD enough.
You couldn't go one commercial break over the xmas holidays without seeing a Sony BD add of some sort.
That still doesn't help the 300k+ standalone users out there.
I tell folks to wait until the end of this yr before buying a BD player.
Prices will drop and you will have BD live...and hopefully faster load times.
HD DVD could come back easily.
Throw a Billion each at WB, Fox, and Disney and see what happens.
Throw another 500 million at Paramount and Uni to keep them preoccupied and then call it day.
Money always talks.
We know Toshiba and MS both have the money to do that.
Then set new prices for any new 1080p HD DVD player at $150 and also set all HD DVD prices at $19.99
That in it's self would shake things up because right now players cost a bundle ...
It continued because of the video and commercial industry.
Most Mass Com's still have betamax machines.
HD DVD became the std for all of china.
I believe it's cal CH HD DVD.
So unless China goes BD..then HD DVD will always stay alive in some areas.
HD VMD is the same in India.
If Paramount and Uni are smart they will hold out on HD DVD side until Sony fronts another 500-750 million each. If I were them I would hold out too.
In the mean time HD side is happy and will probably hand out money too keep them there.
Money talks..
Actually, if you play it smart you take the money and stay with one format until it dies and then just switch back.
WB was making money off of both fronts mind you.
Say WB makes one title for both formats. BD does 60k and HD does 55k.
Now going exclusive they only sell on the BD side and they lose those extra sales.
Anyone switching sides now is betting everything Sony can make BD mainstream in 2 yrs or less and I have doubts about that simple because most...
Like I said before Toshiba and MS should just give each studio 1 billion bucks and call it a day.
The studio's all want incentives to stay one way or another.
People act like they will see 100 million here and there in a financial report.
I doubt it since it can come in small increments over a few yrs time frame or it could be seed money given to a few select films.
I'm actually surprised the Toshiba bid was so low. I figured at least 250-300mil.
Picking the new iPhone 2.0 this yr.
I had to wait on bug fixes and G.
Remember Paramount doesn't dist. overseas like it does in the US.
Remember you can get BD titles like Resident Evil 1-2-3 all from different markets for HD DVD, but you can not here. Some HD titles are BD titles in other countries because they are not dist. the same as in the US.
I still wish BD players were region-less like HD is. I hear you can get them(BD players) chipped for all region play, but it's expensive.
