I doubt this is format related since the reg. movies are being delayed too.

So basically your saying the PS3 is just a BD player..that just happens to play games.

That might win Sony the format war but it doesn't help them when folks do not buy the games.

The way this is written it makes it seem like it's tomorrow. But it's not until the end of Jan.
I'm sure money will be thrown at them.

Toshiba never really lost out. They make cell processors for the PS3.
They also have a hand in making the Wii's too.
So I doubt Toshiba got hit as hard as most would think.

Once HD DVD goes bye bye...I guess we'll see less and less BOGO's for BD.
If they want to see BD sell it for under $20 bucks. Bo...

I disagree.
I can watch most unconverted movies on DVD, but once you switch to HD Directv it's hard to look at STD def shows again.

I would say not until Profile 2.0 is released.
At least then it'll be able to get DLC and online updates like the current gen and last gen HD players.

Why buy a cheap 1.0 or even a 1.1 when it'll be outdated in 3-4 months time frame.
I'm not even sure why BD went to even 1.1..they should've just went straight to 2.0 and been done with it 2 months ago.

Actually, the HD DVD player is the least returned HD player for us.
We get more Sony BDPS300 back then anything.
Mainly, because it's slow and pricey(use to be) compared to a PS3.
The BD1400 from Sammy isn't too far behind the Sony unit.
We've got 4 open boxes now due to returns. (returned because it was too slow)

Most HD DVD players get returned because they don't have the latest firmware update.

If your buying a new house almost every living room comes pre-wired for internet, cable and sometimes surround sound.
Plus, you can always use WiFi in this case. (Wireless G Game Adapter)

No I'm officially interested in HD VMD.
I believe their pricing is perfect for the masses.
I for one have bought no HD DVD or BD players.
I however own Planet Earth, Bourne 3, Harry Potter 5 on HD DVD. I own Cars, Ratitouille(sp), and Spiderman 3 on BD. All of those are my demo discs for the store I work for.
Those are the only movies I've bought for all of 2007. I've DLed all the rest. If I can DL HD movies I can careless about what disc it's on.

VMD uses a max. 40 Mbit/s which is more then HD DVD (36) and just under Blu-Ray(48).
It supports MPEG-2, MPEG-1, VC-1, WMV9 and H-264(AVC)
It however doesn't support DTS HD or Dolby Tru HD. It only supports 5.1 DTS, Dolby Digital, AC3, THX, linear PCM and Dolby Digital Plus.
Disc sizes are 20-40-50GB sizes. (theoretically it can do 200GB with 20 layers)

It sales for $249 and comes with 5 bollywood/indi movies.
The player sales for $198 by it's self....

Actually more and more DRM free stores are opening up every yr.
Napster is the newest one.
So I wouldn't say DRM free media is failing.

AT&T will tell you within 2 yrs or less.
Comcast is doing something similar this yr.
Verizon should have something within 2 yrs as well.
I'd give it two yrs and by then you'll start seeing DD services pop up everywhere.

As for older folks playing with electronics.
Most can not even work or setup a new HDTV, let alone select the right source for a BD or HD player.
Then when they get that far they complain about how slow the player is loadin...

The Wii sold almost 20 mil this yr...how is thia bad?
They make mucho money off the DS and Wii..so what is the money issue.

This guys seemed to have forgotten about Macworld coming up next week for Apple.

Apple just released new Mac Pro's today, but no Blu Ray option.
If it's not on the big machine then it won't be on any of the laptops either coming out at Macworld.
Like I said before, BD got rumored last yr and it fell through and it did th...

Joe if that's the case then HD could woo WB back too...because I'm sure they have a similar clause in their BD contract.
We stay until someone gives us more money.

Just because your the last man standing doesn't mean Uni will go BD.
WHY may you ask? Money.
Uni will more then likely hold out for money. Paramount may do they same.
Get paid twice for Paramount.

Again I'm glad GL doesn't act like this.

First, MB your film is only in HD not BD, so how do you know it will look better?
Second, most films put out on both formats thus far have looked the same.
Third, audio mags and online sites have all said anything gained in PCM over lossless is very little at best and most can not even tell the difference between the two once sound levels have been matched.

The best part about BD to me is still the coating on...

But that would only cater to a very niche group.
To sell to the masses you need a price that will sell to the masses.
And $300 bucks or higher doesn't work.
I'd be scared to buy a Philips BD player. We sell their tv's and we get them back on a daily basis.

MS will probably just use the HD DVD media for it's next gen console.
30-51GB is alot of space for a game.

Toshiba is only being defiant because they probably plan on spending more money on studios.

I'd be willing to bet almost every studio would go HD if you threw a billion at them.
If Universal goes BD...I bet they'll ask for atleast 750 mil to 1 billion buxs.
It might cost Toshiba 5 -6 billion but it would win them support because no-one t...

It's still not safe. Paramount still is on contract with HD for atleast 1 yr + and then you got Universal.
Uni will probably ask BDA for 1 billion buxs to ditch HD. I know I would.

Besides that HD and BD players are still slow as hell compared to normal DVD players.
Because not everyone wants a add on or a PS3.

I worried that if HD DVD dies...then who does BD compete against in price?
I'm worried when the next 2.0 profile players come out w...

You guys kill me.
Most of you that say there was no pay off are the same ones that condemned the HD group for paying for Paramount. Who had execs saying we did not get payed off. lol
If you guys don't think money changed hands your very naive.
Once Paramount set the precedent WB and others followed.
WB and Fox went with the highest bidder.

I know for the last two months Fox and Disney have gotten courted by the HD group.
(Or at least that's w...

This is what the mass consumer wants.
A HD disc player sold for $99-150 buxs on either format.
They also want $19.99 HD/BD discs too.
In the current state of affairs nothing HD is too mainstream right now.
