I can't distinguish between the 1080i and 720p...so in general I keep it set at 720p, which has been designated the "sweet spot" of hd.

Drool in the corner with the dunce cap on. Wow, you guys take this to another level. That was a cool website explaining interlaced vs. progressive, I get that now. And I also understand why 720p tends to be better than 1080i for motion oriented activities (games, sports, etc.)

But 1080p for games, tell me about that. First off, no one is actually doing anything in 1080p yet for gaming purposes, as far as I know....but I thought I had heard that there were drawbacks to it?

This was a big suprise to me when I downloaded it during E3. The demo was a lot of fun, this game will certainly sell well if the demo was any indication.

DJ, that was a very long and old article. MS has since released their financials, and again they're within that 3% rate. Keep in mind that 3% of 5 million is a lot of people, so of course you're going to hear about it.

When I speak of MS shortages, I'm speaking about here in the US. I was fortunate enough to get mine on the day it released, but I didn't see any in stores again until March/April. It's not that they weren't being sold, stores just couldn't keep them in stock.

And I agree with you, I'm thinking Sony has a hard road ahead of them. MS went with tried and true technology and still had a few issues...there's a lot of bits and pieces in a game console! And Sony will have to deal ...

Not that I'm a huge fan of DMC or anything, but the more the merrier!

I think it will be released for the following reasons:
1) I don't think Sony is willing to pass up Xmas '06, that's where most of the buzz and marketing get generated. Even in extremely limited supplies, as with the 360 last year, they can market it as sold out and the hottest item for christmas...actually news will carry the story for them, it's free press.

2) They've already delayed once, further delays (especially into '07) would devastate their fan base.

I personally have no doubts about Sony releasing on time in November. They many not hit the number of consoles they were expecting, but they'll still release their product and get it into peoples hands.

At this point they are on the exact same path as MS was. Two million units by year end, global release. To me that should be considered a disappointment because they've had more time to plan this and now you're looking at the same shortages that MS faced.

That was very enterprising of you.

Oh, and criminal. Criminal and enterprising.

But as to Madden, as far as I can see this is another minor upgrade. Until they're willing to rebuild, I'm not buying.

That these forums degrade into this "mine is better" crap. I'll admit that I tend to be critical of Sony and the PS3, but critical is not the same as dismissive. And I'm almost always on topic.

Many of you treat the topic as irrelevant, you're more about going where the action is. Listen, go to system wars over at Gamespot for that crap. I want to know what people think about the article, and too often I'm only seeing the followingtemplate used:

Two million units by end of 2006, worldwide? That is not very many, you can bet I'm going to be buying one for the purpose of reselling it, reselling prices will be ridiculously high!

But the question is, what's the ratio of 500 to 600 consoles? Are the majority going to be the 600 version, or is it more of a 50/50?

I almost posted this myself. Look, even the guy blogging admits it's a stretch, but it is interesting how a seemingly straightforward answer can appear to be an evasion of the question.

MS totally stole this idea from Sony, who created the walkman! Shame on MS for once again stealing from Sony! MS should stand for Mugged Sony!

btw, I'm totally kidding. I just thought it funny someone was accused of Sony fanboyism for keeping their ipod.

I was lucky enough to get a 360 on the day it released, and had to decide whether I should keep it or turn it over for a tidy profit.

I decided to keep it, and I'm glad I did. I didn't see another one available until March or April.

I see where you're coming from, though. If you weren't planning on keeping it anyway...hmmm.....

So many people got screwed at the 360 launch, it's good to see them changing their policies.

2011 will be then end of this gaming cycle, and the start of the new one.

And I have a hard time believing the Wii will hit such low numbers with their innovative gameplay and low entry price.

You are wrong. Feel better?

MS has responded, the hd-dvd player will not be used for games, only movies.

Some games for the 360 were merely upgraded Xbox games, others truly shine. Same was true of PS2 launch, same will be true of the PS3 launch...or do you truly believe that all ps3 games will be unforgettable masterpieces?

And selling items as accessories allows people to purchase what they want, and keep the price of the console low. I apprec...

UPDATE: Looks like we can put the issue to rest. Microsoft has, once again, officially denied they will be releasing games on the upcoming HD-DVD format, confirming the add-on will be movie-exclusive. The statement released from the company this afternoon makes that pretty clear, and they don't appear to be leaving room to budge:
We're seeing lots of speculation about our upcoming HD DVD Player, and whether we have plans to publish HD DVD games. The answer is no.
Since announc...

MS has said time and again a hd-dvd will be used for movies only. AN HD-DVD WILL BE USED FOR MOVIES ONLY!

And Bill Gates, who was asking what they'll do for people without hard drives: You put it on two cds, and keep the save file on the memory card. This is not a revolutionary concept, everyone who has owned a console is familiar with it.

"Microsoft is looking at ways to modify the right analog stick on the controller to make it more conducive to the precise movements used in shooters and various other genres. This controller would not replace the original controller, and would merely be an option available to players looking for a more advanced control scheme."

This is not an example where MS is all fired up and ready to go with motion sensing in the controllers. It's actually kind of ho-hum about i...
