Why does it really matter when they come out if we know they are coming? It's not a sprint to the Holidays, it's a marathon to create a portfolio of great games over the course of a generation. Sony has proven to do this generation after generation. With the way videogame media is, we get plenty of progress updates these days. We pretty much know whether or not we're excited by what was shown. So, Sony focuses more on things that we haven't seen (brand new IP, surprise past IP...

Pretentious? Because what? They just played live what you would have heard in the videos. That wasn't pretentious, that was a stroke of genius and seemed to add a touch of class to an event that is often seen as being a bit bombastic and superfluous when it comes to music and musical performances.

@kydrice...What you were seeing is the typical path that many of the heroes of Greek tragedy go through. Often, they are consumed by the same anger and vengeance (or whatever traits) that they hate and often don't see it in themselves. Kratos was no exception. His blood lust fueled his journey, in that, he slowly but surely became much like the very gods he despised.

People, at least those that buy Team Ico's games, weren't looking at graphics to begin with. Their games have been more about art style and a unique way of making connections with the characters in the game. Going back from Ico to SotC, they weren't the graphical showcases of the system. But, you'd be hard pressed to find games with such simplistic beauty.
So, while the masses might feel let down that it "looks like a PS3 game". Those that know what to expe...

The thing about showing what's coming this year is that, with the worldwide internet coverage, that information has been leaked and covered to death. Sony has ALWAYS chosen to showcase the future at E3. They usually use "smaller" conferences to give updates on near games. (even then they add one or two surprises) If there is a particular IP or hardware that is highly anticipated, they will highlight release dates at E3. (like TLG and VR getting release date info) Other than that...

While I do think that there is some nature of a fad in the CoD backlash, there is also some franchise fatigue. It's an annual release and that makes it very difficult to make substantive changes in the gameplay year to year. It's become like most sports games. People hope for the overhaul that they think the game needs, but they will settle for the incremental upgrades because they still gotta have their fix. On the other side, there is the group that doesn't understand why people...

Same here. I was watching and trying to figure out what it was...then the breach and I was like "CoD".

This is. exactly true. MS and Sony use E3 in different ways. MA likes to show games that are near release (within a year to 6 months). Sure, they will drop the occasional teaser trailer for something further off. But, mostly it's near future outlook. Sony takes a bit of a broader approach. They often show games in various states of development. From initial teasers of games that might not be out for years, to gameplay updates of near future games, Sony just likes to show what they have in...

@Eidolon...I had the same feeling. But, then I thought that it could have fit the tribal theme of Horizon Zero Dawn too. I was pleasantly surprised.

Just for information stranding in the title might refer to the phenomenon of whales and dolphins mass beaching themselves. Kojima often uses these type of cryptic references in his games.

Not just MS, but everybody. This isn't just about content, though Sony had that in droves. It is about what they did. They cut the financial crap to a minimum. They didn't waste too much time at all. It was game after game...after game. Not a lot of talking and lame jokes...just games...and mostly actual gameplay and not trailers.

Not gonna lie. I didn't realize it was CoD until they got inside the ship. That was pretty epic.

It would be kinda cool if the Killzone universe was connected to this somehow.

I think some of that was on purpose. It was supposed to give the demo a bit more tension.

Those would be Horizon Zero Dawn and Detroit Become Human just so you know. ☺

While Hip-hop might not be your thing, at very least they picked an iconic song from an iconic artist. Plus, if memory serves, you can skip tracks and turn music off. (if they stay true to the last game)

Or....and this is just a thought...he looks like a better character. (not just because of his skin color) Aiden was a pretty bland and unassuming character. His most defining design element was a trench coat. This character looks a bit more like what you would expect from a young hactivist. (skinny jeans aren't just a hipster thing, they're a fad for young people) The curveball is the race. Also, the parkour and melee combat aspects could be what elevates him above Aiden for some. Th...

I might be past it's prime. But, it's still ever-present. It shouldn't be a surprise because it has always been more than just a social issue. It is systemic and, though it is not as overt as the lynchings and church bombings, it's still live and well...and that's unfortunate. The good news? Younger people seem to be less racist. (if you believe studies) So, there's hope for the future. They are the future cops, teachers, businessmen, lawyers, and law makers. Hopefully...

Maybe it has to do with who the character is. CJ, while great entertainment, was a nod to the stereotypical portrayal of blacks at the time...gangsters and thugs. Which, while a bit disturbing to think about, actually works for the racist mentality. However Marcus is educated with tech skills, which is a bit more threatening to the racist agenda and the idea that black people are not capable of such achievements.
More than likely it's some dumbasses that are looking for attentio...

I agree that the assumption is really silly. I also agree with the fact that people trow the word racism around (often without TRULY understanding what racism IS!) But, it's not hurting freedom of speech. You are free to say what you want and, as has always been the case, people are free to respond. However, the anonymity of the internet has emboldened extremists and marginalized the rationality of the middle ground. (see Fanboys) You don't often get internet attention by offering a r...
