The idea is to expand their potential consumer base into the PC market to make up for deficits on the console side. Basically, to even the odds against that 2:1 ratio in the console space. Whether it works or not is to be seen.

This is true. But, there is the difference of what is being offered. Playstation is offering older titles from the previous gen. which is unlikely to effect the sales of it's current console. MS is offering the same titles as are currently available on their consoles which could potentially effect their current console. PS is leveraging it's previous library to garner attention from outside of the consoles. MS is effectively leveraging a portion of it's present and near future lib...

It's a business move...pure and simple. House even so much as stated it with the comment "it remains to be seen if there is a latent demand for it.". MS are pretty much trying to extend their brand into PC because they feel there is a need (economic) there. Sony, on the other hand, hasn't been driven there because of their success in this gen so far. In other words, PS values the console space as THE main place to play games from it's ecosystem and wants to create value ...

Also, a direct correlation to the "need" to keep consoles at a certain price. These are likely similar to the consoles that they wanted to release at launch. But, the price was prohibitive at the point for them to turn a profit and keep them at the expected range. I don't mind having options. What I don't like is that I didn't have that option day one.

You kinda nailed it. While MS does a good job of generating momentum with it's showing of titles to release soon, the momentum isn't sustained by many surprises. IMO, you gotta throw a bone to the core fans (who follow you and already know your release schedule) by giving something completely new. Not just a new look at last year's reveal. But an all new IP.

Providing no release date is about as "realistic" as you can get. In the end, it really doesn't matter because the games are now a known commodity for the PS ecosystem. Just as the games coming out "soon" for MS are. Sony sells the future using games that are in development or just announced. MS, sells the here and now and focuses on games that they hope are within a window of a year or two. Different strokes to the same end...get people to buy in.

To your last points, I fully agree. There's nothing inherently wrong with wither approach. So, for MS to spin it as an advantage, is a bit silly. Sure, you have games that are coming out soon. Guess what? We know! The media and devs have been keeping us updated. Thanks for the new look. Now, where's the stuff I haven't seen? Imo, I don't mind the updates and reminders, as long as there is something more to the conference than a holiday release review. The tried and true is the...

Actually, logical people weren't saying that "performance didn't matter". They were upset that 3rd party devs wouldn't or couldn't take he time to leverage the power of the PS3 to bring games on par with the 360. Remember, they were called lazy? That was the rallying cry. (though I understood from a pure business perspective that it didn't make fiscal sense for 3rd parties) The fact was, the PS3 was just tougher to develop for. No one group of fanboys is better t...

I don't know that it was an afterthought so much as it was a Plan B. Both Sony and MS were coming off of a prolonged generation. Both needed that time to recoup the losses from the hardware. Sony with it's price tag and MS with it's RROD issues. Entering into this generation, it was clear that both companies would need a different approach. So, they both went with less cost demanding designs in order to gain profit almost immediately upon sale. IMO, they wanted to release more pow...

@Cobra951...If a person is recounting facts or paraphrasing, even if not a direct quote, it is not necessarily opinion. For example, if I told you that the weatherman said it was going to be hot, that wouldn't be an opinion. It would be me reporting what the weatherman said. I do agree that people often inject themselves into statements to make them subjective. But, if you read the original response, it really was me reporting the facts.

THIS I can agree with. All of this BS about historical accuracy and immersion is silly in a MP game where you get unlimited respawns. I understand the backlash from the PC cultural push. But, often, that backlash is just as irrational as the PC push itself. Why no middle ground?
It wouldn't bother me one way or another if I saw a female avatar running around my screen (or had the choice to be one) because there's no story being told in MP. In fact, I'd welcome a story po...

The thing is, nothing I said was "opinion". It's all there to look up. You obviously don't like liberal politics, which is your choice. But, just don't misconstrue the facts. Obama's last visit to troops in Afghanistan was March of 2014. In total, he's visited there 4 times. What you are kind of correct about is their lean toward some sort of path to citizenship for the illegal immigrants that are here. (which had some support from some of the right as well) As f...

I think people should respect the views of anyone on this site. (FIFY)
You don't have to agree, and there are buttons to say as much. But, mutual respect goes a LONG way towards a more productive discussion.

Funny, because Obama is on pace to out deport Bush by the end of his 8 years. Net immigration from Mexico is at or statistically close to 0 (with the statistical margin of error being the issue) and has declined since 2010. Believe it, or not, but the research has been done. I don't begrudge you your opinion on Obama, but at least have a valid reason.

I also love the thing. It really is a wonderful piece of tech. Unfortunately, it will go down as an underperforming, unappreciated device that quite frankly came at the wrong time. Combine that with the poor handling and lack of messaging and the rest is history. I still use it for remote play and playing some of the free plus games. But, when I purchased it, I was hoping for more.

While I get the frustration, PSVR is simply a different ecosystem. The Vita was facing stiff competition from the emergence of smartphones and tablets becoming better at playing games (and for cheaper). Add to that, Sony was kinda stuck with a handheld that, while it had great games, couldn't quite match the console experience. (which wasn't ever really an expectation of most...until it suddenly was).
I had hoped that they would focus on it again, once the PS4 noise died dow...

True. I remember the "outrage" when the tile was first revealed. Even THEN I gave the devs more credit than just being straight forward. This was supposed to be a noire title after all.
