Nope! Sony is under the impression that they can deliver a comparable, 4k gaming experience on their upcoming console so that their fanbase doesn't have to go elsewhere to get it. IMO, they aren't trying to outdo PC. They are trying to appease the enthusiast that is interested in the UHD/4K trend while keeping them on Playstation platforms.
The addition of these new consoles has little to do with "attracting PC gamers" and more to do with the older consol...
THIS is true. IMO, they were a bit stubborn and resistant to that transition. They kinda lived off of the reputation of the Sony brand for a bit long in some areas. They gambled and lost in others. All in all, though, they persevered. Every company that has been around for as long as they have has had some ups and downs. If they haven't...well then the down is around the corner. The idea is to do everything possible to weather the storm, adapt, and persevere.
I hadn't put th...
Which was the initial vision for the Xbox brand that was constantly pushed from the higher ups (like Balmer) long ago. It's interesting how much flak they got then and now how accepted it is for services to be part and partial of the industry today.
😁
I actually agree with this. Look, let's get this out here, it's a smart business move considering their situation. Instead of continuing to battle with just hardware, they chose to try to broaden their consumer base by appealing to the PC market. However, the caveat to all of this falls mostly on the core PC market choosing to buy in. Herein, lies the issue. This is the same crowd that had chosen, for whatever reason, not to own an Xbox One yet. That means that, at most, there will be...
I think you pretty much explained it. You have 2 conferences that are close in time and proximity to one another. (Gamescom and PGW). Sony prioritizes one over the other, likely due in part to some of their partnerships with devs and the potential for redundancy. Splitting info between the two creates the chance for 2 mediocre conferences. Why not just just choose one and go all guns blazing? There's only so much content, even for Sony, to divide between all of the conferences. As long as...
I think you found one of the reasons that the Vita suffered. It faced an uphill battle from the beginning. Nintendo has dominated that market since forever. PSP scratched and clawed it's way to the success that it had. But, that was in a market where those were the only two strong options. Vita had to compete with the DS, plus the rise in power and ease of access of smartphones. Add to this, Sony underwent their reorganization. In this, I think they had to make a tough decision to focus o...
And Paris Games Week...and Tokyo Game Show. All of which showcased something that we hadn't seen before. But, yeah, the attempt to somehow spin that as a negative will commence.
Respawn joined EA as part of their support program for indie developers, IIRC. So, there was probably a limit placed on the funds. However, after seeing the results, EA very well could have fully funded the project if they wanted. It's not like they were hurting for cash. But, they took the less risk averse path and let MS fund the rest. That's a win-win scenario for EA. For MS, it was basically a chance to sweep on and secure a title that had started to generate tons of buzz. This wa...
@MSF89...the pantheon of Greek gods are products of incest. So, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. In fact, most pantheons don't have outside gods that come into the fold. They start from the originals and have no choice but sisters and brothers.
Depends on which GTA.
While I agree with the overall sentiments, I just stop short of calling it a fad because it continued in other forms. As you pointed out, the PC market started to try to take off roughly around the time that consoles were losing steam. Their edge? They weren't marketed as toys. (though they had plenty of gaming software) They had a decidedly more "serious" vibe to the marketing. Hell, that's how I conned my mom into getting me a Commodore...and rarely did more than game on i...
The BIG difference was simply that in 1980, the industry was new. There were no statistics to truthfully support any theories about growth and support potential. So, it was literally force fed and grew way too fast for it's true potential at the time. Now, because the industry is much more mature, there isn't the same worry. Larger markets can support larger risks...including "crap" games. What it can't support is the majority of the investment being put into crap games....
I agree. I don't see a time where the 1980's repeats itself again. However, there will likely become a time where it does face retraction. It's been expanding for decades now and more and more investors are hopping on the bandwagon. There will be a time where, due to economic pressures outside of the industry, investment will slow down and those that were only along for the ride (not really invested in growing the industry) will hop off.
While part of the crash was due to the "fad" nature of gaming, I don't see that as the main reason for the actual crash. That came about because of rapid expansion of the market, and the rush by companies to get there, leading to a severe lack of quality. Companies literally were willing to put anything on the shelves. Why? Lack of publishing control by console makers. The market was flooded with crap. Add to this that there was well over 10 different consoles to choose from. Pe...
Girls are competitive. It's just that they decided to compete in different areas. It's their socialization that causes the differences in where they compete.
True, but this wasn't about the money. This was Jim Brown sending a message. EA is still involved in similar class action lawsuits and this could, if not set precedent, definitely provide legitimacy to the other claims. Judges have a tendency to look a prior rulings while making their own. EA might just be getting what it deserves for repeatedly ignoring those athletes while reaping in billions.
I will agree and add to that one more thing. I honestly don't think that they want to make them really good. What they want is to cash in on the gaming industry and their IP without too much effort...and it shows. While some of these movies are passable for a fleeting bit of entertainment, most are just bad. Bad stories that we didn't ask for by bad (or as you noted badly cast) actors. What more should we expect from that type of effort?
Sony (and MS for that matter) are releasing the new sku's to drive and meet demand for the UHD/4k craze. These are probably closer to the consoles that they wanted to release when this gen started, but they would have been too expensive to profit from quickly. It has to do with making their exclusives look and play better, NOT creating an entirely new console for exclusives. While it might be possible far down the line that we might see a shift, I doubt that they alienate close to 50 mill...
Nah... not a typo. More of a clarification. The first statement is a much broader selection of games. The other allows them to select which games will be available. It's like me saying I'll give you all of my money. Then, coming back and saying I'll give you all of the money that you find in my wallet. The intention IS to give you money. But, with me being selective in the second statement, it could dramatically reduce the amount that you could get. (though, with me, you'd be ...
