And there is the slippery slope that people might overlook. If every major dev decides subscription services are the way to go then, much like how Netflix was gutted and movies went multiple places, we could be forced into multiple subscriptions just to play our favorite titles. That would suck. Instead of investing on an individual basis, we could be in a situation where we have to maintain a subscription for one game that we like. Sure, we gain access to other games. But, that's not a g...

Actually, these events are to showcase what the console has to offer...period. That means covering eminent releases as well as revealing what the future holds. Sony tends to provide updates to already revealed games AND drop new content. TGS, specifically, tends to showcase what Japanese devs will have to offer to the library and revisit content that Western devs have coming to Japan. Thus far, Sony has been pretty good at balancing conference info between all of the higher profile conference...

Agreed. I think the second to last one on PS3 was where it started to reemerge as a great franchise. Then, with the engine change, there was a bit of adjustment. Then, as you said, 2015 it solidified that position. The last 2 years were minor adjustments. This one feels like the tweaks just seem to make it feel just right. I don't mind doing the option files and editing at all. It's tedious the first time. But, as a long time fan of PES, I'm used to it. I'd rather have the act...

Gotta say I loved the demo. It seems like about every 3 years Konami hit that sweet spot where everything just feels right with their game. Imo, this is that year. Not that the other years are horrible. It's just that this year feels like all the other games were leading up to this one.

I agree Matrix. Live, though a bit more fresh, was just okay to me as well. It felt stiff and a bit antiquated control-wise. But, it is surely a better starting point than the previous one. 2K has changed a bit. Passes are snappier (thank goodness). Controls feel more responsive (think the revamped animation engine works well for this). The biggest thing for me, a long time player, is that the AI is indeed better on the court. They take smart pull ups from mid range. They exploit matchups muc...

Is it easier, though? With all of the competition for getting exclusivity, it seems like it would be a much easier road to have a couple of internal studios on hand to just make what they want. As far as quick, what's quicker than picking up the phone and saying "great idea...go for it!"?
My analogy is sports teams. It seems it would be easier to cultivate talent and create what you need (relatively) than to enter bidding war after bidding war for the talent your team n...

And it might indeed rise to the level of tyranny IF this were the he government saying this, but 's not. It's an entity that doesn't want to be involved with someone who might sully their name. The government may not censor you. The government may not be able to quash the idea of free speech. However, non-government entities provide boundaries for speech all the time. You can literally be banned HERE for saying the wrong things. That's not tyrannical. It's within the right...

Playing on the go is the past as well. Even the idea of a plug up handheld has been done. This hybrid is new and interesting. That being said, there will ALWAYS be a desire to play on the tv. Maybe not for the young crowd. But, older people (30's+ who grew up without screens everywhere) will always fall back to tv.

That's reasonable AND they'll do that on the next system. Sony has planned out this gen from the jump. They knew that this gen couldn't be sustained by tech alone. This was their first time going "off the shelf" as it were. So, the mid gen upgrade became a thing. Now, they will ride it out on games until they are ready to release the PS5. Sony has used consoles to push new tech forever. However, the focus has traditionally been through the vehicle of gaming.(i.e., we mad...

Historically that's never been a Sony issue. Sony has had slow starts in generations. However, they almost always finish strong.

Death
What you tend to forget, or not, is that exclusives are the main reason for most core gamers to choose one system over the other. The rest is ancillary. Features are cool. Power is cool. Programs and incentives are cool. But, they are all a means to an end, which is to highlight what your console and developers can do with all of that. That's what exclusives are...a marketing showcase to get people to invest in a particular economic ecosystem and hopefully stay for the long...

While true, ther are players chomping at the bit JUST to raid. I don't really see the issue. If you aren't ready, don't do it. If you are, it's there for you. That way you can take as much or as little time with whatever content you want.

It's a bit early to be ringing the death knell of VR just a year in. It might be disappointing for us, the consumers, that the best untis are still costly and haven't auite delivered oin the experience that we expected. However, much like any new tech, there's an adjustment period. The makers must adjust the tech. The developers must provide something worthy of the price of admission. This was always going to be a marathon. The companies that invested knew as much. They are probab...

The issue would be, much like FIFA, there are teams that require individual licenses because of their star power in the NCAA. Those teams would likely be asking for a lot of cash on top of the blanket NCAA license. This was also part of the reason as to why EA and Sony dropped previously licensed NCAA games. (though the main one still seems to be the issue of players and player likenesses and compensation and how that should effect their status as "amateur athletes") So unless Sony ...

It's not ONLY a term that fuels fanboys. It's also a tried and true method of keeping gamers dedicated to a system. Despite the noise, core gamers buy systems for their favorite franchises....many of which are likely to be exclusives. Also, it's kind of an indication of dedication to those that choose to purchase your system. (though not in some altruistic way, business is still business) Exclusives are the reason that Nintendo is even still relevant. They're the reason that X...

It is as it always was. Exclusives are meant to sell systems...to define what is possible on said system. Multiplats ate meant to fill the gaps and create a broader base to sell to. Think of it this way. Even if you bought a system just for a multiplat game or games, there's a chance that you might plurge once or twice on an exclusive or two. (that's the mass market approach to consoles) Now, if you have enticing exclusives and you know the multiplats will come, you've bought in t...

From a storyline standpoint, true. However, from a technical standpoint it was pretty damn strong IMO. It showcased what the potential of the system, while providing a decent amount of fun. As you said, for free, it's surely worth the HDD space.

IIRC, there's a Metacritic score attached to the big titles that Sony offers on PS+ (which doesn't seem to apply to the indies). Maybe that's why Knack hasn't made it yet?
Either way, still nice for those that didn't play Second Son. It was a great way to kickstart a generation. Maybe not as good as it's predecessors (at least story-wise), but a pretty good showcase for the potential of the system. Those smoke and lighting effects still stand out as some of t...

There's also no reason why Sony should be considered not for the players because of ONE feature. It won't make or break the game, the service, or the gamers that want it. It would simply be cool if it happened. IMO, this is being completely overblown and contrived as a means of pointing out a chink in Sony's armor. It's like trying to criticize a Ferrari with a scratch on the bumper. Just silly!
