People like Bobby Kotick would absolutely LOVE ideas like this. They can force gross monetization schemes, choice of engine, amount of devs, pushing it out broken, etc, and then the DEVS would be the ones who get penalized for it? Dream come true!
If it must, how about from the shareholders or execs who get massive bonuses even when a game fails and more massive ones when they succeed? Who maybe only take home a few million instead of 10s or 100s of millions when they fail?...
It's the free market at work. You don't get refunds for stocks that tank the day after you buy them.
Problem also being that they can't offer adjustments indefinitely, or they'd just sell the game at launch at whatever the first sale price would be. And if they chose, say, a 6 week window where they'd price match, they'd just not put a game on sale until 6 weeks 1 day later, and people would also know not to look for a sale until then, probably effin...
Yeah, that is really questionable now you mention it. And I'll tell ya what, when I did a quick swap between fidelity and performance on the PS5 demo, I didn't see a massive graphics leap or anything. From what I saw, their RT isn't robust enough to drain so much performance (and I just rewatched the DF video on it, where even they struggle to notice the impact of RT on the visuals).
I have to imagine FSR2 (can't recall if they'll support DLSS) should at...
I was unfamiliar with that term. I suppose this is somewhat of a move away from everyone conflating difficulty with a "Souls-like". That said, the term seems to be defined as:
"Through trial and error gameplay, complex game mechanics and intense difficulty, Masocore games are specifically designed to frustrate players over and over" and "a video game subgenre with a focus on intense difficulty, often featuring complex or unfair mechanics."
I don't actually see this as coming to Game Pass anywhere. Quick google showed no info on it being confirmed anywhere, their announcement tweet had no mention of it (and they didn't respond to a question about it). Perhaps it'll be announced in the mid-month update?
You can also spend $10 on a generic mouse, or $200 on a high-end, eSports caliber one. $200 on a knockoff 1080p TV or $1000+ on an OLED. There's always going to be space for value & quality options. Given this thing is how we interface entirely with games, I don't think it is out of the question to offer up a better option.
That said, I do think $200 for this seems too steep. I spent $115 on an Elite Series 2 (open box) for use on my PC, and that was about as mu...
Dang, you went in pretty hard on Stadia, with two editions. I just had the one. I had the same thought about using it for the Steam Deck, given how poor the Series 2 lag is on there over bluetooth. Hopefully this one works well with the Deck.
(I think that other comment may be the tamest thing I've ever gotten downvotes for....not even sure what is being downvoted lol)
Make sure the shrine has easy access to the controller since Google will be putting out a tool next week to unlock its Bluetooth capabilities. So at least a piece of it can go on, living its own life, carving its own path forward; in control of its own destiny, and of other games.
It's what Streaming Puck would have wanted for it.
Honestly, I'm only a modest SH fan and there are definitely some things that concern me trying to bring a game like this to the modern era - though none so esoteric as those posed by your strawman lol.
Oddly, the first thing I'm curious to see how they handle is the script and voice acting. It is one of those scenarios where the original was written in a time where you wouldn't necessarily have high-quality writers on staff. But, more so than that, during a time...
It is a little weird how most of them are just new versions of old games, though. Hopefully this gives publishers the confidence to green light more proper new horror IPs.
Quality of Life improvements are exactly what you just described - things that are nice to have, but not necessary. One could call those nitpicks. But just because a core function is covered doesn't mean you can't want smaller things to be different, right? This isn't like "PS5 IS TRASH BECAUSE OF THESE 10 THINGS!", it's just some smaller things that would make day to day a little nicer.
I'm a PC & console guy myself, and game probably 90% of the time on PC, but I'm curious what modestly priced PC you have from 4 years ago that can blow away current gen consoles? I mean, the only thing that really "blows away" current consoles from a GPU from 4 years back is pretty much going to be an RTX 2080Ti, which also cost $1000 on its own.
And it is $400-$500 for a PS5, and you don't need a WD Black SSD. Buying a PC, you'd need to buy yo...
I mean, it isn't gonna take up less space after it gets cheaper?
Well, technically Half Life Alyx released only a couple years back, but I still kinda get what you mean.
I get what you mean, but HP is used as the shorthand for the universe as well. Kinda like saying "the new Marvel game". I agree it's not great, but most people know what is meant.
I've always found that kind of thing funny. Like when custom firmware developers, who expressly go around piracy controls, put anti-piracy software in their own product so *their* work can't get stolen.
But when the majority of people who pirate the game never have the intention to pay for it in the first place, I'm not sure how you'd get $500. I guess if you could get 100 people to chip in $5 a piece it'd be worth it for them, but otherwise you might a...
Honestly, the bottom line is it ultimately doesn't matter if that's true. I question if it is, but I'll take their word for it. The fact is it is demonstrable as to how negative the impact on performance is. The same site you linked tells of how much worse performance in RE Village was with Denuvo vs cracked.
It linked to an article about how every title had much worse performance, from loading to framerate to frametimes. It was so bad in Doom Eternal that, afte...
Yeah, I'm largely with you. There are a handful of games I can deal with lower framerates, but I still tend to not like any lower than 40fps. Primarily I'll do that on Steam Deck, and of course any Switch games where it is the sole option. But between PC and PS5, if I have to I'll sacrifice some bells and whistles to get the smoother framerate.
Decent price for a 60% gaming keyboard, but it is membrane switches. If you're after a mechanical option, you could also get a Royal Kludge 60% board for just a few bucks more.
@crazyCoconuts
I'd also like to toss another option out there, if one doesn't mind paying, called reWASD. The basic version of it costs $7, but the amount of customization in that thing is incredible. I'd been aware of it for a while, but finally took the plunge recently and am loving it.
Dang thing is so flexible I've even been able to set up a wireless PS3 Nav Controller & mouse combo for analog movement & mouse precision for FP...
