Just for posterity, I would like to negate my previous statement. I think Nintendo really failed to explain what was truly done to this version of the game, and it appears to be far closer to a remake than a remaster. And with that newfound knowledge, the $40 price tag doesn't seem as egregious.

Doubly so, given Nintendo has priced basically res-bump emulated games at similar - or higher - pricing. I'm actually far more interested in picking this up now, and may do...

....I mean, was this a secret? They obviously don't want it to go through. I truly didn't think this needed to be said as some gasp inducing point of the finger lol.

Would you be OK with it if they did this when BotW released? Cuz that's kinda what this feels like.

It would be akin to Sony (et al) in the PS3 era raising their prices mid-generation to $70 for no reason. Things haven't improved, tech wise, to require more man-power. If Nintendo released a Switch 2 and this was $70 there as an enhanced version, no one would blink.

It is - even in the face of abundant profits at these massive companies - just the ...

FWIW, it's gonna be $130. When I saw it in the Direct, I assumed it would be $99.99 like FE: Engage CE was. It's gonna be $130, which is honestly more than I'm willing to pay for it. Include some kind of season pass, perhaps, but $130 for the few trinkets in there? No shade for those that do find it worthwhile, but I was at least personally put off by it.

Are you going to at $40? I think the entire trilogy on Wii was a $50 price point, and that put the WiiMote controls in each of the games, which took at least some effort. This price is simply absurd.

That was from the article yesterday, no longer true as of today. Amazon took their pre-order page down earlier (and it remains down), it had no price on BB earlier and is $69.99 now, and there is no pre-order button available on GameStop.

And the collector's edition of this one is going to be $130! It comes with a steelbook, an artbook, some pins, and a small metal poster...$60 for that? I was going to look into snagging a copy if I could, when I assumed it would be a $99.99 price point like the FE: Engage CE was. $130, no thanks.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck, but it's kinda funny how different perspectives can be (mine being a stingy dude who waits for deep sales on everything lol).

The big worry of the article is no pre-load and a long download time, so those who play on PC might have to wait 18+ hours before diving in, which means high likelihood for spoilers before they get a chance to play the game.

I manage to avoid spoilers for months or years in most cases. I ...

Not sure I get this. I mean, the AO in this game really is quite poor. We have plenty of examples of it done right, it doesn't require DF to tell you what your eyes can see, and them having said it doesn't invalidate the fact.

If you enjoy the way the game looks, no shame there. Enjoy it! But that doesn't change the fact that the game has some visual issues. Both can be true.

I think that seems excessive if I'm understanding that right. As in, if I want to comment on a story that is tagged PlayStation, I'd have to have my PSID verified on N4G?

I think if you want to have an optional way to prove you own specific systems, doing that is a sensible and viable addition for those that want to prove they own what they say they own. But I also think it would create problems with mistagged articles keeping people from commenting, or people inte...

How would they verify, by linking to your various usernames/tags for each platform? Perhaps they could let you have a photo spot for each console, and you could like take a pic with your username written in front of it in lieu of something like that, but it doesn't seem like a particularly easy solve. I own nearly every platform, so the barrier for verification would have to be pretty dang low for me to care to do it for each one of them.

Generally speaking, they have to prove the worth of online for it to be a viable trade-off. If you're a single player game, it shouldn't be required to play online. If they can show how online adds functionality or is somehow core to the game in some fashion even for single player, then they may be able to justify the trade-offs.

What trade-offs? Being able to play anywhere (laptop, Steam Deck, home with no internet), and to play anytime (if their servers go down, o...

I suspect it is a form of decision, though. "Licensing issue" sounds more like code for "would cost us more money". They didn't say impossible, just issue. Not saying it isn't justifiable, money is money, they can't justify taking a total bath. The fact they chose to separate the userbase is questionable, though. Then again, it also does nudge people towards thinking about digital as the better option for future purchases. Which, let's be honest, is the fut...

I'll say that while I think it would be nice if it were a bit smaller for portability, I don't find it too big when using it. I bought the Hori Split Pad Pro for the Switch and that config ends up being pretty close size-wise to the Deck (the latter is still heavier, though).

That said, if you do want smaller devices, they exist if you're willing to pony up for them. Ayaneo is one of the more prolific handheld PC makers, who put out what feel like a new device e...

It's a silly thing, I know, but...how did the "n" from Eternal get bumped from the end up to the beginning?

Edit: Guess autocorrect. Wasn't aware Enteral was an actual word. Always happy to add a new word to the vocabulary!

I obviously agree that you need games you can only play on a new-gen console in order to help spur people to buy it, but I still contend that:

a) BotW. Switch came out 5 years after the Wii U. This is such a similar situation, in a game that kept getting delayed but was initially made with the old hardware target in mind and launched cross-gen.

b) Even companies like Sony are launching games like GoW Ragnarok cross-gen, and the PS5 is doing well. It had i...

Re: being surprised if they made it cross gen....

I mean....Breath of the Wild. That launched on Wii U & Switch, and the Wii U was struggling mightily. It would honestly be surprising to me if, after 6 years of overall development on the Switch, they abandoned that development effort, the 100+ million user install base, and effectively flipped the middle finger to people like me who (at least in part) bought this system for MP4.

1156d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

That would be a bummer, at least from the standpoint of the value I've gotten from my Switch. They really should never have teased this game. It's been 6 years since initial development began, and 4 years since being rebooted. Still haven't heard a peep.

It was one of the reasons I bought the Switch, so it would be a shame if it was Switch 2 only. Nintendo went hard at the Switch launch, then went back to mainly making just...regular ol' Nintendo games. Whic...

Curious as to your system. Tough to contextualize performance without specs :-)

I did try the demo earlier. My specs are firmly mid-tier with an R5 5600X, 3060ti, & 32GB RAM, but I could definitely feel the need for further tweaking at 1440p to try to get a stable 60fps with good image quality. Well, a little higher than 1440p; I run my desktop at 2731x1440, 67% of 4k for NIS upscaling.

But I'm still shocked at how heavy this thing is to run. Give...

I could probably stand to try it again. My first FF was 8 (fluke, friend got it as a gift & gave it to me since he didn't like RPGs). I missed 9, and then played X and practically every version since.

I tried to go back to 7 & 9 in the PS2 era, but had a hard time getting into them. I still can play a decent chunk of 8, but I never tend to past maybe halfway. Pretty sure nostalgia is doing the heavy lifting there. But, as sacrilegious as it is, I still just can&...
