What's nonsensical about that? I mean, games like M:E and FFVII Remake gave free upgrades in not only resolution and framerate, but also graphical enhancements as well. M:E is closer to Spiderman Remastered (which was a whole other clusterfugg). U:LoT has barely any graphical changes & some DualSense integration (in addition to the fps/res boost), but they want $10 for it. It isn't a particularly flattering comparison.
I paid the $10 because it is worth it to me...
You think because a woman reviewed this, it got higher marks? Not sure I follow you there.
The score on Metacritic right now is 86, an average taken from 42 different reviews. Those are not 42 reviews done by women lol. In fact, the first review is a perfect score from The Telgraph by Jack Rear. But still, can't help but agree with the fact critics are being far too kind with Pokemon games.
Never understood Pokemon. I got X for free on my 3DS with a promotion (I think for buying Mario Kart?), and I gave up on it incredibly fast. It felt like - no disrespect to those that like it - but a game aimed squarely at children. It was written as such, and it felt pretty simple & boring to me.
I had hoped maybe this open world one would shake things up, make for more interesting exploration, capture, and battling than the nearly carbon-copy Pokemon games that came b...
Who knew, so exclusive it had an expiration date.
I will pay $10 to upgrade to this collection when it goes live, but I 100% agree with everything he wrote for the exception that I haven't pre-ordered & so at least won't have paid full price. So I wouldn't exactly call his point "moot" (I assume that's what you meant), but he did exacerbate the issue by paying more than he needed to, that's for sure.
Battery life is in the ballpark of the OG Switch, but with the power of essentially a PS4 in the palm of your hands, so I'm alright with the low end considering the 2 hour mark will be pretty much when you're pushing it to its limits. I think you pop some indies, older AAA games, or sensible settings for newer games and you'll get fairly livable battery life....I hope lol.
And if I'm really going to be away from an outlet for longer than that, bringing a bat...
Clearly I have to go back and give it another shot. I ran through my ammo dealing with that eye-arm-boss and the rest on the damn seemingly endless dogs roaming the police station. I tried running around them, but they just piled up & it became annoying. Limited ammo & degrading knives makes your attacks feel like they count, but it can also paint you into a corner. Especially when zombies can keep getting back up repeatedly until the rare crit explodes their head for good.

If I didn't know any better, I'd assume this was an MMO from like 2016. The gameplay doesn't look terribly compelling, and the graphics definitely look dated; the compression doesn't help, but it sometimes looks like a PS3/4 crossgen title or something.
I applaud them for being open & showing the game off as much as they have been. It's a good sign to not shield your project as much as possible before release. But I'll certainly be curious to hea...
Yeah, it's a little gross to realize that they could have added a free 60fps patch like they did for their other bigger releases, but knew this was coming down the pike so held off as to entice more people to shell out $10. If the package holds value outside the framerate, which it very well might, give the 60fps patch free and then let us buy this on the other merits.
As it is, I'll likely buy this simply to have the higher framerate version, and to spend less tha...
If they even just started with the obviously easy ones, like PS1 and PS2, I'd be elated. We know PS3 emulation is coming along on PC, so if a bunch of hobbyists without direct access to all the ins-and-outs that Sony does, you'd think they could come up with something. I still have PS3 hooked up, but I'd really appreciate some basic upscaling if they manage a PS3 emulator at some point. 720p looks OK on some titles, but absolutely soupy on others.
But I would be...
Man, I don't get the love for Halo Infinite. I tried it, but I just did not like the way it felt. The grappling hook felt pretty good to use, if a bit...floaty? But it was a nice mix for traversal & to knock out shields. But I couldn't be bothered to even get to the open world. It felt like the carrot on the end of the stick that was the boring opening slog of corridor shooting with annoying little enemies that shout annoying little quips at you.
I also really w...
I think, bare minimum, they should go patch every game they can for 60fps for free. If they want to charge for more specific improvements, like 3D audio/DualSense/whatever little addition, go for it I guess. I mean, it looks cheap as hell, but at least I wouldn't begrudge them as much if they gave their customers who buy both their games & their hardware a benefit instead of a tax for a bare-minimum improvement like smooth framerate.
It's crazy that Sony are kin...
Not sure what 8k really adds to this, to be honest.
Resolution helps sharpen things up to a point, but even then...you get to see it on YouTube, which is going to compress the image down enough that we couldn't really appreciate it anyway. I guess it at least pushes a higher bit-rate, so it'll look cleaner than a 4k stream, but 8k is kind of wasted GPU resources in my book. Maybe if you are pressing your face up to a giant 8k screen where you could peep pixels it...
I'm not sure using the sales metrics are a good measuring stick for this one. It made back all its development & advertising budget in pre-orders alone. This game was sold almost entirely on the back of hype, when everyone trusted CDPR with the Night City Wire videos they were showing off, & before they (or reviewers) actually got their hands on it. I believe Steam uses total sales for its Best Sellers list, so given its gargantuan number of preorders, wouldn't that mean it...
The fact you get to enjoy the meat of it in 60fps...I'm jealous lol.
As much as I loved it on PS4, I badly wanted to see it in 60fps. Was going to buy on PC when it launched, but held off. Recently got my hands on a PS5 & went back & played a bunch of PS4 games with their 60fps patches. Got the Plat in H:ZD I always intended to go back and get. Felt so damn good to finally play in 60fps! Stable 30fps can be fine, but I honestly never want to see another game com...
It's impressive that they've got a streaming option in place, but I'm not a fan of when people say "playable on" or "running on" when it isn't being rendered natively. Yes, the wording technically works, but streaming on something isn't the same as running on something.
When that person modded Doom to run on the pregnancy test, that was running ON it. I could also say GTA5 is now playable on my 10 year old Android because I can stream...
Don't love having to pay $10 for primarily an FPS & resolution upgrade, but I'll begrudgingly do it. Cheaper than rebuying full-price to play on PC I guess. Then again, if $5-10 a game would be enough money to get Sony to go back to older games and update them I'd probably do it for most of them.
The fact that games like The Last Guardian launched with uncapped framerates by accident, was patched back to 30fps, and the only way you can play 60fps now is to r...
Wait, "the console versions will not support cross-play at launch". But how only consoles? If PC supports cross-play, but the consoles won't have it day 1...who the heck can PC cross-play with at launch? lol
Given it is the cloud version of the game, I'm a little surprised. Are they using their own streaming infrastructure? I'd imagine that they'd just furnish the PC code to a cloud provider, like Ubitus GameCloud used for several of these cloud versions, and have it up and running day 1. I wonder what makes this a "within 6 months" endeavor...
Well said. It's like the concept of "cost of business" is lost on some people. You do certain things as niceties, and to stay competitive within your industry.
And as you said, Sony will STILL make money on this from those that never owned the games before, it would just mean the multi-billion dollar company would get a *little* less money by providing a courtesy upgrade to those that already own it.
