Well, this wasn't very illuminating. Hulst gives Bungie a heaping dose of praise, and basically says that any specific discussions of what the relationship between them might bring will have to wait until after the deal is successfully closed. So we're no closer to getting a handle on what's going on than before this interview, sadly.
Kinda thought we'd hear a little more about Hulst's ideas for what live-service would mean/look like from a PlayStation p...
How the heck can adding your own walk-up music be exclusive to not only one platform, but one piece of hardware on that platform? How utterly bizarre.
Sounds like it'll be fun once the bugs get sorted. Also, I'm (sadly) quite accustomed to weak stories & protagonists in games, but I can put up with "weak" in a fun open world game. It's when writing actively makes you groan where I might not be able to get past it; thankfully, it doesn't sound that dire here.
So, as usual, best course of action will be to wait for some patches and a sale. Pretty much how I handle every release these days, so I...
That's how I handle any sports release, pretty much, putting a chunk of years between purchases. And while I FAR prefer 1 time purchase for ownership, sports games feel like one of the few kinds of games where a live-service approach would seem to make sense. Pay less yearly & build on top of the existing foundation with little improvements and roster updates. Surprised no one has at least tried it.
As it turns out, the last The Show I purchased was MLB 17, so a fre...
Agreed. And I'm incredibly bummed to know Sony won't go back and at least give GR2 a 60fps bump. That game cries out for it!
Glad Sony at least gave GR a second chance, but it is always a bummer when new IPs that have unique artstyles & mechanics don't perform. Sort of cements why we get so much of the same-old-same-old. Why try something new when you can apparently rehash the same old thing again & get more sales? Wish we got to see what GR would have l...
Not an overwhelming amount of stuff here, but I am interested in trying out Dreamscaper and Skul - both had on my Steam wishlist, so nice I'll get to try those out.
I *think* PC will get the campaign whenever Crossfire HD launches. Apparently X is for consoles only, and HD is the original game remastered for PC only, but it sounds like they talk about both kind of in the same breath, and the campaign sounds like it is included in both. I think lol.
I still don't really understand why they are separate projects, but I don't have my finger to the pulse of Crossfire, so maybe there's good reason.
I don't disagree that's part of it, but we don't think Sony could have spent that $3.6 billion to fund some studios, poach a few higher ups with live service know-how, and get that going themselves? And likely have a massive number of extra projects/IPs/avenues for income other than simply 1 IP?
No matter how you slice it, this feels like they massively overpaid. Maybe in a few years we'll see their grand plan all along, but as an outside observer fresh off...
They had to be super-secretive about a basic feature like this? The exact same feature integration that like 10 other services have? Ok, I guess.
I actively disable the option to share what I'm playing even on PC, so - for me - this is basically a non-feature. I really thought they had a more robust integration in the works, but it kinda sounds like this is it?
I'm also lost when they say things like:
"we are incredibly excited about the opportunities for synergies and collaboration between these two world-class groups"
But in the FAQ:
-Anything exclusive for Destiny 2? No
-Anything changing for upcoming seasons? No
-Any cross-platform features impacted? No
-Any future titles exclusive? No
Bungie retains their complete autonomy, so wh...
Yeah, that's kind of insane to me when you put that out there. $229 million for an incredible studio like Insomniac, 3.6 BILLION for Bungie?! I know there are some differences with IP ownership & whatnot, but that just makes it seem to me that Sony has *insanely* overvalued Bungie. What the hell...
Yeah, I don't get this one. Big PS fan, but instead of feeling like "woah, what a megaton!", I was like ".....huh".
That's too much for Bungie. As others have said, double the money for Zenimax got MS way the heck more than just 1 IP and 1 dev studio. And MS is gonna keep those games exclusive going forward, where Bungie games sound like they won't be...
So as the outside, non-business-minded observer......what am I missing...
Feels a bit like a strawman to me, to ignore all the other things surrounding the price & launch of both consoles, and then point to backwards compatibility as the sole (or at least primary) differentiator in sales. It isn't like "if it doesn't have it, I won't buy it!" for most people, it is more a nicety to have once you do buy it.
And, of course, PS5 has direct PS4 backwards compatibility, some games getting specific boosts for PS5 and others st...
I don't necessarily think this game is a scam, but I think it is poorly managed. I think MAYBE it is now in a state where things can get done, but I believe it was effectively chaos before 2017 where little actually got done. That's about when Crytek closed a bunch of studios & CI could hoover up tons of devs specifically knowledgeable about CryEngine. They super lucked out there, and I think that marked a turning point for them. I often wonder where they'd be had they just us...
My gut says I'm most excited for Horizon:FW, as I truly loved the first one. Also loved GoW 2018, so Ragnarok would be next on my list. But I will say, if Starfield makes it this year and can be a Skyrim typed experience with better combat, that could be a strong contender.
I've tried to go back & play Skyrim several times, nostalgic for the music & atmosphere, but I never seem to be able to stick with it. Not sure why that is, though the "slap fight&qu...
Holy moly, that background insertion effect is distracting as all hell. And it's a bummer there's no written piece to this.
That aside, I hadn't bought H3 yet, and was planning on picking it up for PCVR. This is massively disappointing to hear!
Some people like having specific versions, as well as having "archival quality" versions. That is, a disc that is a complete package with any DLC & patches included on-disc. Nothing says this won't also get patched, of course, but all the big stuff was taken care of back in the PS4 days, so it's likely any patching at this point will be very minimal.
There's certainly no denying that Valve could try to go for that level of competition should they choose to, but that's seemingly not the plan - at least not yet. They are doing a small rollout of units, countable more in the tens of thousands rather than millions. There hasn't been a big marketing push. They have units that cost as much as a PS5/XSX. They are playing this very slow and cautious.
It is perfect for someone like me. A primarily PC gamer who hasn...
"As Valve readies the Steam Deck for launch later this year, history only allows us to wonder how long, as opposed to if, the new PC-like hardware will be able to survive against Nintendo’s onslaught."
WHY do people think this thing is competing with Switch!? It is insane to me. It might take a little market away from it, mainly from PC players who no longer have to double dip on older games or indies, but it is primarily a companion device. This isn't Sony go...
Isn't Audica already Beat Saber with guns lol.
Wish this trailer gave some useful views of representative gameplay. The cuts to rendered character & then back to boxes didn't really give a good idea of the feel of this game. Can't even tell if it is a rhythm game or not?
